Magnetostrictive materials have been used for linear actuators due to its large strain, large force output with moderate frequency band in the presence of magnetic field. However their performance analysis is difficult because of nonlinear material behaviors in terms of coupled strain-magnetic field dependence, nonlinear permeability, pre-stress dependence and hysteresis. This paper presents a finite element analysis technique for magnetostrictive linear actuator. To deal with coupled problems and nonlinear behaviors, a simple finite element approach is proposed, which is based on separate magnetic field calculation and displacement simulation. The finite element formulation and an in-house program development are illustrated, and a simulation model is made for a magnetostrictive linear actuator. The fabrication and performance test of the linear actuator are explained, and the performance comparison with simulation result is shown. Since this approach is simple, it can be applied for analyzing magnetostrictive underwater projectors and ultrasonic transducers.
For feedback control of a linear dynamic system the optimum linear slace regulator (OLSR) can be implemented only if all state are available for feedback. This work demonstrates that when only the output state is available for feedback, a nonlinear controllers can be improved performance over that obtained by a proportional controller. This paper found the optimal control law by well-known dynamic programming and principles of optimality. Thus, performance of both proportional and nonlinear controllers is compared with performance of optimum linear state regulator.
In this paper, we use measure theory for considering asymptotically stable of an autonomous system [1] of first order nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODE's). First, we define a nonlinear infinite-horizon optimal control problem related to the ODE. Then, by a suitable change of variable, we transform the problem to a finite-horizon nonlinear optimal control problem. Then, the problem is modified into one consisting of the minimization of a linear functional over a set of positive Radon measures. The optimal measure is approximated by a finite combination of atomic measures and the problem converted to a finite-dimensional linear programming problem. The solution to this linear programming problem is used to find a piecewise-constant control, and by using the approximated control signals, we obtain the approximate trajectories and the error functional related to it. Finally the approximated trajectories and error functional is used to for considering asymptotically stable of the original problem.

The linear motion (LM) guide using ball bearing has many advantages compared with conventional sliding guides. Therefore, LM guide using ball bearing has been used widely to increase the accuracy of the position of a system. This research investigates dynamic characteristics of LM guide through mainly linear analysis. Linear analysis is accomplished by Lagrange equation and finite element method. And another trial that is nonlinear analysis about one mode of LM guide(bouncing mode) from Hertzian contact theory is accomplished in the latter half of this research. Through nonlinear analysis we could observe the softening characteristic due to the Hertzian contact nonlinearity.
We consider a numerical scheme for solving a nonlinear boundary integral equation (BIE) obtained by reformulation the nonlinear boundary value problem (BVP). We give a simple alternative to the standard collocation method for the nonlinear BIE. This method consists of one conventional linear system and another coupled linear system resulting from an auxiliary BIE which is obtained by differentiating both side of the nonlinear interior integral equations. We obtain an analogue BIE through the perturbation of the fundamental solution of Laplace's equation. We procure the super-convergence of approximate solutions.
This paper is dealing with a design of linear controller so that the plant output is regulated to follow a reference model output when the plant equation is described by a class of nonlinear time-varying control systems.

In this paper, computational analysis and experiments of subwoofer for car audio speaker system were performed and discussed to analyze acoustical phenomena for subwoofer. Ported enclosure system with subwoofer were manufactured and provided for test and simulation purposes. Subwoofer with single voice coil and double voice coil were identified by linear and nonlinear parameter identification method for loudspeaker parameters. For high power inputs to subwoofer, sound pressure levels were compared according to input powers with linear and nonlinear loudspeaker models. For subwoofer system with high power nonlinear speaker model was showed to be adequate to describe the behaviour of loudspeaker.
This study intends to explore dynamic interaction behaviors between actively controlled maglev vehicle and guideway girders by considering the nonlinear forms of electromagnetic force and current exactly. For this, governing equations for the maglev vehicle with ten degrees of freedom are derived by considering the nonlinear equation of electromagnetic force, surface irregularity, and the deflection of the guideway girder. Next, equations of motion of the guideway girder, based on the mode superposition method, are obtained by applying the UTM-01 control algorithm for electromagnetic suspension to make the maglev vehicle system stable. Finally, the numerical studies under various conditions are carried out to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the maglev system based on consideration of the linear and nonlinear electromagnetic forces. From numerical simulation, it is observed that the dynamic responses between nonlinear and linear analysis make little difference in the stable region. But unstable responses in nonlinear analysis under poor conditions can sometimes be obtained because the nominal air-gap is too small to control the maglev vehicle stably. However, it is demonstrated that this unstable phenomenon can be removed by making the nominal air-gap related to electromagnetic force larger. Consequently it is judged that the nonlinear analysis method considering the nonlinear equations of electromagnetic force and current can provide more realistic solutions than the linear analysis.

In this paper, the frequency response characteristics of the velocity controlled EHS system obtained by linear simulation method, nonlinear simulation method, and experimentation are compared one another, in order to verify propriety of the linearization method in case of analysis of hydraulic systems. The Bode diagrams are obtained by transforming time domain data of experimental results and nonlinear simulated ones with Fourier transform. The results of nonlinear simulation are more similar to the frequency response of the real systems than those of linear simulation. It is found that nonlinearity of hydraulic systems is mainly occurred from servo valve, and nonlinearity is increased as displacement of servo valve spool increases.

In this paper, the properties and the design procedures of the internal model control (IMC) structures are discussed and a new nonlinear IMC(NIMC) strategy is proposed. The IMC controllers are simply inverse controller in principle but the development of a NIMC poses difficulties due to the inherent complexity of nonlinear systems. Existing design mehtods are a few and not easy to implement. The proposed approach is using multiple linear models, linear IMC controllers, and swiching scheme instead of using nonlinear model/controller. The advantages of the new approach are that we can use linear IMC mehtod which are now well estabilished and need not global nonlinear models.
