  • In gastric adenocarcinoma, high rates of loco-regional recurrences have been reported even after complete resection, and various studies have been tried to find the role of postoperative adjuvant therapy. Among them, Intergroup 0116 trial was a landmark trial, and demonstrated the definite survival benefit in adjuvant chemoradiotherapy, compared with surgery alone. However, the INT 0116 trial had major limitation for global acceptance of the INT 0116 regimen as an adjuvant treatment modality because of the limited lymph node dissection. Lately, several randomized studies that were performed to patients with D2-dissected gastric cancer were published. This review summarizes the data about patterns of failure after surgical resection and the earlier prospective studies, including INT 0116 study. Author will introduce the latest studies, including ARTIST trial and discuss whether external beam radiotherapy should be applied to patients receiving extended lymph node dissection and adjuvant chemotherapy.

  • A high-speed traveling-wave photodetector (TWPD) with an InGaAs absorber is designed and realized. The bandwidth of the TWPD is measured using electro-optic sampling techniques. The bandwidth is 410 GHz, which shows that the RC limitation is overcome. While the TWPD shows a low responsivity of 0.06 A/W at 1,550 nm, this value can be improved through further optimization of the structure without a sacrifice in bandwidth.

  • A proposed incremental model for the solution of a general class of convex programming problems is introduced. The model is an extension of that developed by Mahmoud et al. (1993) which is limited to linear constraints having nonzero free coefficients. In the present model, this limitation is relaxed, and allowed to be zero. The model is extended to accommodate those constraints of zero free coefficients. The proposed model is applied to solve the elasto-static contact problems as a class of variation inequality problems of convex nature. A set of different physical nature verification examples is solved and discussed in this paper.

  • Plant cells from which the cell walls have been enzymatically or mechanically removed are called protoplasts. The protoplasts are theoretically totipotent and can be used as sources of somatic cell fusion in practical breeding programs. Wild Solanum species have often been used as sources of important agricultural traits including diverse disease resistance. However, they cannot often be directly applied to breeding programs due to their sexual incompatibility with S. tuberosum. Somatic hybridization via protoplast fusion is one of the ideal methods to overcome this limitation and to introgress certain traits into S. tuberosum. This technique has still widely been used in potato since the first fusion was reported in 1970s. Therefore, this review highlights general perspectives of protoplast fusion and discusses the application of protoplast fusion in potato breeding.

  • A fundamental limitation of steel structures is the decrease in their load-bearing capacity at high temperatures in fire situations such that structural members may require some additional treatment for fire resistance. In this regard, this paper evaluates the structural stability of fire-resistant steel, introduced in the late 1999s, through tensile coupon tests and proposes some experimental equations for the yield stress, the elastic modulus, and specific heat. The surface temperature, deflection, and maximum stress of fire-resistant steel H-section columns were calculated using their own mechanical and thermal properties. According to a comparison of mechanical properties between fire-resistant steel and Eurocode 3, the former outperformed the latter, and based on a comparison of structural performance between fire-resistant steel and ordinary structural steel of equivalent mechanical properties at room temperature, the former had greater structural stability than the latter through $900^{\circ}C$.

  • Recently, along with emergence of big data, there are incresing demands for releasing information and micro data for public use so that protecting privacy and measuring risk of disclosure for released database become important issues in goverment and business sector as well as academic community. This paper reviews statistical methods for protecting privacy and measuring risk of disclosure when micro data or data analysis sever is released for public use.

  • In this letter, non-regenerative Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay systems based on half and full duplex schemes are investigated and their performance is analyzed and compared in terms of outage probability. Although the AF relay systems have been widely investigated in many previous literatures, most of them adopted a half duplex scheme due to hardware limitation and mathematical tractability. To the best of our knowledge, this letter is the first study to investigate the performance of the full duplex AF relay system considering practical hardware limitations. In full duplex AF relay systems, it is important to secure the isolation between transmit and receive antennas. Our numerical and simulation results show that there exists a threshold point of the isolation gain that the full duplex relay system outperforms the half duplex relay system.

  • Though electricity consumption amount in industry has been increased gradually, corresponding power supply show symptoms of marginal point. Importance of demand-side management from large-industries has also been raised. This paper deals with induction motor, which is one of representative examples of heavy electricity consumption utilities, to analyze potential technical capability, economic feasibility from consumers' viewpoint and demand-side management feasibility from nation-wide perspective. Nation-wide economic feasibility analysis was done through California test, which has been used as demand-side management evaluation model. This paper also describes limitation of existing high efficiency induction motor in terms of contribution to demand-side management and utilizes premium motor to calculate demand-side management contribution level and economic feasibility evaluation. Likewise, this paper emphasizes the efficiency improvement of induction motor and analyzes how much premium motor related technologies can contribute to demand-side management.

  • Objective: This paper discusses how service design is related to two well-known disciplines, interaction design and cognitive systems engineering, which are applied to the design of software, websites and mobile phones, and the design of control room of nuclear power plants and cockpit control, respectively. Background: Service design has been spotlighted recently due to its promisingness to service industry. Successful cases of service design are widely shared among designers. Service design, however, is treated as practice rather than a discipline. Method: It was discussed that it is important to consider the interaction between customers and services as in interaction design, and some domains are complex enough and have functional limitation as in cognitive systems engineering. Results: Models and design tools of the disciplines are introduced and applied to service design practices. Conclusion: It was concluded that service design has the characteristics of both interaction design and cognitive systems engineering.

  • Powell-Miller theory is a good method to express or treat incorrect information. But it has limitation that requires too much time to apply to actual situation because computational complexity increases in exponential and functional way. Accordingly, there have been several attempts to reduce computational complexity but side effect followed - certainty factor fell. This study suggested expanded Approximation Algorithm. Expanded Approximation Algorithm is a method to consider both smallest supersets and largest subsets to expand basic space into a space including inverse set and to reduce Approximation error. By using expanded Approximation Algorithm suggested in the study, basic probability assignment function value of subsets was alloted and added to basic probability assignment function value of sets related to the subsets. This made subsets newly created become Approximation more efficiently. As a result, it could be known that certain function value which is based on basic probability assignment function is closely near actual optimal result. And certainty in correctness can be obtained while computational complexity could be reduced. by using Algorithm suggested in the study, exact information necessary for a system can be obtained.
