  • It is crucial for important facilities to withstand strong earthquakes because their damage may cause undesirable socio-economic effect. A liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal is one of the lifeline facilities whose seismic safety needs to be guaranteed. Even though all operating LNG receiving terminals in Korea were seismically designed, old design codes do not guarantee to comply with the current seismic design codes. In addition, if the constructional materials have been deteriorated, the seismic capacity of facilities may be also deteriorated. Therefore, it is necessary that the seismic performance of LNG receiving terminals is evaluated and the facilities that lack of seismic capacity have to be rehabilitated. In this paper, a procedure of seismic performance evaluation of such facilities is developed such that the procedure consists of three phases, namely pre-analysis, analysis, and evaluation phases. In the pre-analysis phase, design documents are reviewed and walk-on inspection is performed to determine the current state of the material properties. In the analysis phase, a structural analysis under a given earthquake or a seismic effect is performed to determine the seismic response of the structure. In the evaluation phase, seismic performance of the structure is evaluated based on limit states. Two of the important facilities, i.e. the submerged combustion vaporizer (SMV) and pipe racks of one of the Korean LNG receiving terminals are selected and evaluated according to the developed procedure. Both of the facilities are safe under the design level earthquake.

  • Multilayer perceptron neural network was trained to determine the factor of safety and slip surface of the slope. Slope geometry is a simple slope based on Korean design standards, and the case of dry and existing groundwater levels are both considered, and the properties of the soil composing the slope are considered to be sandy soil including fine particles. When curating the data required for model training, slope stability analysis was performed in 42,000 cases using the limit equilibrium method. Steady-state seepage analysis of groundwater was also performed, and the results generated were applied to slope stability analysis. Results show that the multilayer perceptron model can predict the factor of safety and failure arc with high performance when the slope's physical properties data are input. A method for quantitative validation of the model performance is presented.

  • The load distribution and deformation of rock-socketed drilled shafts subjected to axial loads are evaluated by a load-transfer method. The emphasis is on quantifying the effect of coupled soil resistance in rock-socketed drilled shafts using the 2D elasto-plastic finite element analysis. Slippage and shear load transfer behavior at the pile-soil interface are investigated by using a user-subroutine interface model (FRlC). It is shown that the coupled soil resistance provides the influence of pile toe settlement as the shaft resistance is increased to an ultimate limit state. The results show that the coupling effect is closely related to the value of pile diameter over rock mass modulus (D/$E_{mass}$) and the ratio of total shaft resistance against total applied load ($R_s$/Q). Through comparisons with field case studies, the 2D numerical analysis reseanably presented load transfer of pile and coupling effect due to the transfer of shaft shear loading, and thus represents a significant improvement in the prediction of load deflections of drilled shafts.

  • This study is done to assist in the limit of stage dress design research considering the sense of the times and the sympathy of spectators for actual stage. For the base research, to visualize the image which the spectators are feeling from Shakespeare's Hamlet, the evaluators had to analyze the whole image and color tone of the figures. First of all, 2 clothing for Hamlet, Gertrude and Ophelia had to be designed, and following conclusion has drawn. Hamlet A corresponds with passive looks which is a combination of loneliness, sadness and the unstable mental state of not adapting to and hiding from the reality. Hamlet B has more of matured looks which make Hamlet more free and comfortable from life and death as he overcame a crisis of death. Gertrude A corresponds with the image of coming right out of the funeral of late king. Gertrude B shows more of her sadness as she hears of her son Hamlet's despair and resentment and her maternal return degradation which is a special situations emphasizing her unstable and dizzy image. Ophelia A shows her usual and normal looks of a livelihood and femininity. She congratulates the wedding and coronation, and falls in love with Hamlet which shows a lot of her girlish image. Ophelia B shows dismantled rationality and violated virginity which is a very complex and unstable state showing a completely different image. Based on the above research. It was proposed their clothing through the next study of the characters, and personally make them for 2003 Yeonheedan Street Group's performance Hamlet.

  • Provisions for the redistribution of negative moments in KCI 2007 and ACI 318-08 use a method for continuous flexural members subjected to uniformly-distributed gravity load. Moment redistributions and plastic rotations in beams of reinforced concrete moment frames subjected to lateral load differ from those in continuous flexural members due to gravity load. In the present study, a quantitative relationship between the moment redistribution and plastic rotation is established for beams subjected to both lateral and gravity loads. Based on the relationship, a design method for the redistribution of negative moments is proposed based on a plastic rotation capacity. The percentage change in negative moments in the beam was defined as a function of the tensile strain of re-bars at the section of maximum negative moment, which is determined by a section analysis at an ultimate state using KCI 2007 and ACI 318-08. Span, reinforcement ratio, cracked section stiffness, and strain-hardening behavior substantially affected the moment redistribution. Design guidelines and examples for the redistribution of the factored negative moments determined by elastic theory for beams under lateral load are presented.

  • A steady-state and dynamic simulation program for a small multi-purpose turboshaft engine with the free power turbine was developed. In order to reduce developing cost, time and risk, a turbojet engine whose performance was well-known was used for the gas generator, and life time was improved by replacing turbine material and by using Larson-Miller curves. The component characteristic of the power turbine was derived from scaling the gas generator turbine. Equilibrium equations of mass flow rate and work were used for the steady-state performance analysis, and the Constant Flow Method(CMF) was used for the dynamic performance simulation. The step fuel scheduling was carried out for acceleration in the dynamic simulation. Through this simulation, it was found that the overshoot of the turbine inlet temperature exceeded over the compressor turbine limit temperature.

  • A lithium-ion battery exhibits high energy density but has many limitations due to safety issues. Currently, as a solution for this, research on solid state batteries is attracting attention and is actively being conducted. Among the solid electrolytes, sulfide-based solid electrolytes are receiving much attention with high ion conductivity, but there is a limit to commercialization due to the relatively high price of lithium sulfide, which is a precursor material. This study focused on the possibility of relatively inexpensive and light lithium hydride and conducted an experiment on it. In order to analyze the characteristics of LiAlH4, ion conductivity and thermal stability were measured, and a composites mixed with PVDF, a representative polymer electrolyte, was synthesized to confirm a change in characteristics. And metallurgical changes in the material were performed through XRD, SEM, and BET analysis, and ion conductivity and thermal stability were measured by EIS and LFA methods. As a result, Li3AlH6 having ion conductivity higher than LiAlH4 is formed by the synthesis of composite materials, and thus ion conductivity is slightly improved, but thermal stability is rapidly degraded due to structural irregularity.

  • We investigated the structural, electrical and magnetic properties of Mn-doped $CuAlO_2$ delafossite ceramics ($CuAl_{1-x}Mn_{x}O_2,\;0\le\;x\;\le0.05$), synthesized by solid-state reaction method in an air atmosphere at a sintering temperature of $1150^{\circ}C$. The solubility limit of Mn ions in delafossite $CuAlO_2$ was found to be as low as about 3 $mol\%$. Positive Hall coefficient and the temperature dependence of conductivity established that non-doped $CuAlO_2$ ceramic is a variable-range hopping p-type semiconductor. It was found that the Mn-doping in $CuAlO_2$ rapidly reduced the hole concentration and conductivity, indicating compensation of free holes. The analysis of the magnetization data provided an evidence that antiferromagnetic superexchange interaction is the dominant mechanism of the exchange coupling between Mn ions in $CuAl_{1-x}Mn_{x}O$ alloy, leading to an almost paramagnetic behavior in this alloy.

  • The superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) can quickly limit the fault current shortly after the short circuit occurs and recover the superconducting state after the fault removes and plays a role in compensating the voltage sag of the sound feeder adjacent to the fault feeder as well as the fault current limiting operation of the fault feeder. Especially, the flux-lock type SFCL with an isolated transformer, which consists of two parallel connected coils on an iron core and the isolated transformer connected in series with one of two coils, has different voltage sag compensating and current limiting characteristics due to the winding direction and the inductance ratio of two coils. The current limiting and the voltage sag compensating characteristics of a SFCL using a transformer winding were analyzed. Through the analysis on the short-circuit tests results considering the winding direction of two coils, the SFCL designed with the additive polarity winding has shown the higher limited fault current than the SFCL designed with the subtractive polarity winding. It could be confirmed that the higher fault current limitation of the SFCL could be contributed to the higher load voltage sag compensation.

  • Pt-Co alloy nanowire array was directly synthesized by electrochemical deposition with polycarbonate template at -1.0V and subsequent chemical etching of the template. The use of Pt-Co alloy nanowire array-modified electrode (Pt-Co NAE) for the determination of morphine (MO) is described. The morphology of the Pt-Co alloy nanowire array has been investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy disperse X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis), respectively. The resulting Pt-Co NAE offered a linear amperometric response for morphine ranging from $2.35\times10^{-5}$ to $2.39\times10^{-3}$ M with a detection limit of $7.83\times10^{-6}$ M at optimum conditions. This sensor displayed high sensitivity and long-term stability.
