The intuitive understanding of the dynamic pattern generation in asymmetric networks may be useful for developing models of dynamic information processing. In this paper, dynamic behavior of the ring connection neural network in which each neuron is only to its nearest neurons with binary synaptic weights of ±1, has been inconnected vestigated Simulation results show that dynamic behavior of the network can be classified into only three categories: fixed points, limit cycles with basin and limit cycles with no basin. Furthermore, the number and the type of limit cycles generated by the networks have been derived through analytical method. The sufficient conditions for a state vector of n-neuron network to produce a limit cycle of n- or 2n-period are also given The results show that the estimated number of limit cycle is an exponential function of n. On the basis of this study, cyclic connection neural network may be capable of storing a large number of dynamic information.
The first part of the paper deals with a brief introduction of the plant-herbivore model system along with deterministic analysis of local stability and Hopf-bifurcations. The second part consists of stability analysis of the limit cycle arising from Hopf-bifurcation and uniqueness of limit cycle. The third part deals with the study of global stability of the model system under consideration.
Epoxy-coated reinforcing bars are widely used to protect the corrosion of the reinforcing bars in the RC elements under their in-service environments and external loads. In most field surveys, it was reported that the corrosion resistance of the epoxy-coated reinforcing bars is typically better than the uncoated bars. However, from the experimental tests conducted in the labs, it was reported that, under the same loads, the RC elements with epoxy-coated reinforcing bars had wider cracks than the elements reinforced with the ordinary bars. Although this conclusion may be true considering the bond reduction of the reinforcing bar due to the epoxy coating, the maximum service loads used in the experimental research may be a main reason. To answer these two phenomena, service performance of 15 RC beam specimens with uncoated and epoxy-coated reinforcements under different fatigue loads was experimentally studied. Influences of different coating thicknesses of the reinforcing bars, the fatigue load range and load upper limit as well as fatigue load cycles on the mechanical performance of RC test specimens are discussed. It is concluded that, for the test specimens subjected to the comparatively lower load range and load upper limit, adverse effect on the service performance of test specimens with thicker epoxy-coated reinforcing bars is negligible. With the increments of the coating thickness and the in-service loading level, i.e., fatigue load range, load upper limit and fatigue cycles, the adverse factor resulting from the thicker coating becomes noticeable.
This paper is concerned with some properties of stable domains and limit functions. Using the relationship between cycles of periodic stable domains and orbits of critical points and using the Sullivan theorem [19], we prove that the value of a constant limit function in some stable domain for a rational function f of degree at least two lies in the closure of the set of critical orbits of f.

In this paper, we propose a method to a synchronization of chaotic UAVs that have unstable limit cycles in a chaos trajectory surface. We assume all obstacles in the chaos trajectory surface have a Van der Pol equation with an unstable limit cycle. The proposed methods are assumed that if one of two chaotic UAVs receives the synchronization command, the other UAV also follows the same trajectory during chaotic UAVs search on the arbitrary surface.

Friction-induced vibration characteristics of automotive brake lining pad are investigated on the basis of experimental observations from a pin-on-disk type friction-induced vibration experimental apparatus. The measured responses of the experimental apparatus show limit cycles of quasi-harmonics type and beat phenomena due to the velocity dependence of friction force. To deduce the friction coefficient vs. relative velocity Lienard method is adopted with least square fit. It shows Scurve which characterizes a quasi-harmonic vibration. The calculation of amplitudes and friquencies of the limit cycles is done using slowly changing phase and amplitude method. The theoretical and numerical results show fairly good agreements with those of experiments.
The most important problems which should be considered in designing servo controllers are resonance effects and nonlinear friction. These problems exist in almost all the servo systems, especially for the robotic maniplators and numerical control systems and cause difficulties in designing controllers. In this paper, controller design procedure which employs $H_{\infty}$ control theory is proposed for the servo systems with these problems. Sometimes, for these systems, there is a possibility of limit cycles due to the interation between the nonlinear friction and integrator. To check the possibility of limit cycles, describing fuction method is used.
A total life model was developed to assess the service life of aging aircraft. The primary focus of this paper is the development of crack growth life projection using the response surface method. Crack growth life projection is a necessary component of the total life model. The study showed that the number of load cycles N needed for a crack to propagate to a specified size can be linearly related to the geometric parameter, material, and stress level of the component considered when all the variables are transformed to logarithmic values. By the Central Limit theorem, the ln N was approximated by Gaussian distribution. This Gaussian model compared well with the histograms of the number of load cycles generated from simulated crack growth curves. The outcome of this study will aid engineers in designing their crack growth experiments to develop the stochastic crack growth models for service life assessments.

In order to predict the accumulated damages by cyclic freeze-thaw, a regression analysis by the Response Surface Method (RSM) is used. RSM has merits when the other probabilistic simulation techniques can not guarantee the convergence of probability of occurrence or when the others can not differentiate the derivative terms of limit state functions, which are composed of random design variables in the model of complex system or the system having higher reliability. For composing limit state function, the important parameters for cyclic freeze-thaw-deterioration of concrete structures, such as water to cement ratio, entrained air pores, and the number of cycles of freezing and thawing, are used as input parameters of RSM. The predicted results of relative dynamic modulus and residual strains after 300 cycles of freeze-thaw for specimens show very good agreements with the experimental results. The RSM result can be used to predict the probability of occurrence for designer specified critical values. Therefore, it is possible to evaluate the life cycle management of concrete structures considering the accumulated damages by the cyclic freeze-thaw by the use of proposed prediction method.
Indentation, scratch and sliding tests were carried out in this paper to predict the critical loads and the failure modes of TiN-coated specimen. The test specimens were S20C steels with three different substrate hardness, roughness and coating thickness. The scratch test shows that the coating thickness has more dominant effect on the critical load of coated disk than the hardness and the roughness. Using the percent contact load, the ratio of sliding load to the critical scratch load, the cycles to failure are measured to predict the wear-life of TiN film. On the wear-life diagram the percent loads and the cycle to failure show the good linear relation on semi-log coordinate. With decreasing loads, the diagram shows the wear-limit at which the coated disk survives more than 4000 cycles.
