High Performance Control of LED Drive System for LCD Backlight (LCD 백라이트를 위한 LED 드라이브 시스템의 고성능 제어)

  • This paper proposes high performance control of light emitting diode(LED) drive system for liquid crystal display(LCD) backlight. The CCFL(cold cathode fluorescent lamp)was used to a conventional LCD backlight. Due to improvement on luminous efficiency, long life and wide color gamut, LED has gradually substituted for CCFL as backlight. The backlight using LED is necessary to use many LED. For that reason, the LED backlight is using a lot of LED driving circuits. The many LED driving circuit is generated a current deviation between LED. Eventually, it is caused brightness deviation between LED. Therefore, this paper improves the current deviation using transformer and balancing capacitor to solve this problem. Also, for accurate and uniform brightness control, this paper is applied the artificial intelligent control to a dimming control. This paper is compared with conventional system, and validity of this paper proves through that result.

Study of ZVS-PWM Series Resonant Converter with Active-Clamp Technique (액티브 클램프 기법을 이용한 영전압 스위칭 직렬 공진형 컨버터에 관한 연구)

  • Resonant converters have several salient features such as high efficiency and low noise. Therefore, ZVS-PWM controlled series resonant converter with active-clamp technique is presented. The combination of an active-clamp technique and resonant circuit makes it possible to control the output voltage of the resonant converter with PWM. This new resonant converter was implemented and has achieved a good controllability. In this paper, the normal load characteristics and abnormal voltage increase in the case of the light load are analyzed. As a result, it is clarified that the stray capacitance of the transformer is a cause of the abnormal voltage increase. Then, it is confirmed that the abnormal voltage increase is suppressed by decreasing the duty ratio. ZVS condition is analyzed. The maximum efficiency of 89% is obtained for the output of 10V and 5A.

  • In this paper we analysis DC bus voltage stress at high line voltage and light load in $S^4$-PFC Isolated AC/DC converter with DC bus voltage feedback using coupling in transformer. In this converter, the principle of operation and the practical problems in the design are considered. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the operation and performance of the $S^4$-PFC converter with DC bus voltage feedback. Experimental sets are performed in the conditions; switching frequency 100 kHz, output of 5 V, 60W, and universal line input voltage.

  • This paper proposes a new full ZVS-range asymmetrical half bridge converter. It uses the variable transient current build-up technique with the load variations. The current build-up is accomplished by using the secondary synchronous switch control. Due to the blocking capacitor in secondary side, the voltage applied to leakage inductor varies with the load variations during current build-up period. Therefore, the unnecessary current build-up of leakage inductor current in heavy load condition is prevented and more current build-up in medium and light load condition is achieved for ZVS operation. That is, the variant current build-up with the load variation is accomplished for the ZVS operation. Furthermore, the DC offset of the transformer magnetizing current is also eliminated and the utilization of magnetic core is maximized.

  • A new phase shift full bridge converter(PSFB) with serially connected two transformers is proposed. It is well suited for applications in the communication equipment of a few hundred watts. The main features of the proposed converter are a wide input voltage range, an easiness to meet the requirement for zero voltage switching (ZVS) condition at a light load, and a small output voltage ripple. Furthermore, it features high power density since serially connected two transformers can replace both a main transformer and an output inductor. A mode analysis and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed converter.

  • This paper deals with the electric and thermal characteristics of the composite busbar composed of aluminum and copper. When AC current is flowing in Cu busbar used widely in conservative equipments like power cable, transformer, and switchgear & controlgear most current is concentrated on the surface of the busbar by the skin effect. Therefore, if the Cu region in the busbar having low current density is replaced with aluminum, we can largely reduce the product cost and weight of the busbar. To conform the performance of the composite busbar, we designed and fabricated a test Al/Cu composite busbar. Maximun temperature rise of the busbar was $35^{\circ}C$ when 1600 Arms of AC current was applied to the test composite busbar($120mm{\times}10mm$). Based on test results, we can expect to make the low-priced and light power equipments using the Al/Cu composite busbar.

  • LED(Light Emitting Diode)는 친환경적 특성, 긴 수명, 우수한 효율, 빠른 응답 속도 등의 장점이 있어 최근 기존의 백열 전등 및 형광등을 대체하는 조명 수단으로 각광받고 있다. 기존의 LED구동회로를 조광기용 MR16안정기에 연결할 경우 안정기와 조광기의 오동작으로 인해 Flicker 현상이 발생되고 선형적인 Dimming이 불가능하다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 MR16 안정기와 조광기용 MR16안정기를 호환하는 Flicker Free LED 구동회로를 제안한다. 또한 LED구동회로의 원리와 Dimming에 따른 LED전류제어기법 원리를 설명하고 모의실험 및 시작품 제작을 통해 제안 회로의 타당성을 검증한다.

  • In this paper, the inductive power collector using electromagnetic induction for the PRT{Personal Rapid Transit) system is suggested and some ideas for power collector design to improve the power transfer performance are presented. The proposed the inductive power collector is used for the PRT system, which has a large air-gap and demands a large electrical power capability. But, low output power is generated due to a loosely coupled characteristic of the large air-gap. Therefore, double layer construction of secondary winding, which was divided in half to increase both output current and output voltage was suggested. Also, model of power collector and parallel winding structure are presented, in addition, the performance of inductive power collector to alignment condition between the primary power line and the inductive power transformer was verified by computer simulation of 2kW model.

  • This paper deals with the parallel operation of several numbers of PWM converters for a high speed railway train application. Several considerations are made to reduce the transformer interaction which can cause a current control problem in severe case. Also, in this paper, novel control strategy is proposed to achieve a harmonic free primary-side current control under a light load condition using one current sensor independent of the number of converters. In addition, the modified predictive current controller, which is suitable to a digital current controller with a relatively large sampling period, is used. Finally, to verify the system validity, digital control system with TMS320C44 micro-processor and small scale simulator are made and tested.

  • The DC/DC power converter increase switching frequency in order to achieve small size, a low noise, and light weight. However, the power switches have high power losses and switching stresses as the switching frequency is increased. Therefore in this paper, the author propose the Soft-Switching Forward-Flyback PWM DC/DC converter using assistant-circuit, based on forward-flyback operation of a high-frequency transformer. The proposed converter scheme is verified by simulation and experiment.
