Methods: Data were collected between September 1 and October 16, 2015 via a self-reported questionnaire from 170 nursing students using convenient sampling methods. The survey included questions about nursing professionalism, academic failure tolerance, social self-efficacy, and college life satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression with IBM SPSS/WIN 20.0. Results: Establishment vision about nursing science (${\beta}=.27$, p=.006), academic failure tolerance (${\beta}=.17$, p=.031) and social self-efficacy (${\beta}=.19$, p=.012) of nursing students were identified as significant predictors of college life satisfaction, after adjusting for establishment vision about nursing science and satisfaction in nursing science. This model explained 21.0% of the college life satisfaction in nursing students (F=6.38, p<.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that academic failure tolerance and social self-efficacy were significant factors influencing the college life satisfaction of nursing students. Also, as a strategy for improving the college life satisfaction of nursing students, it is necessary to develop programs that can help to establish apparent vision and to improve satisfaction in nursing science.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this experimental study was to examine the values of a death education program developed to improve life satisfaction and attitude toward death in college students. Methods: The death education program was developed and then used with 22 college students for 5 weeks, once a week for 150 min. Before and after the intervention, students responded a questionnaire developed to measure life satisfaction and attitude toward death. t-test, $X^2$-test, and paired t-test with the SPSS program were used to analyze the data. Results: The death education program significantly improved life satisfaction but had no statistically significant effect on attitude toward death. There was a significant difference in life satisfaction between the experimental and control groups but not in attitude toward death. Conclusion: Based on the above results, it is apparent that the death education program has an affirmative effect on life satisfaction in college students and some impact on attitude toward death. We suggest, therefore, that the death education program should be used with all human beings to help them recognize the values of themselves and their current lives and improve their satisfaction with life.

Data were collected from 380 middle school students by using a socio-demographic questionnaire. A measurement tool for intimacy with parents, optimism, learning motivation, and school life satisfaction was used, and a frequency analysis, a t-test, a one-way ANOVA, a correlation analysis, and a path analysis were conducted. School life satisfaction showed differences in terms of middle school students grade and, parental education but there were no meaningful differences in terms of their gender and monthly household income. Intimacy with parents and optimism had direct effects on motivation; intimacy with the father and optimism had direct and indirect effects, respectively; and intimacy with the mother had an indirect effect. An increase in the level of intimacy between parents and students and an increase in the positive perception of oneself facilitated learning motivation as well as school life satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of the satisfaction of basic psychological needs on the relationship between college students' parental attachment and college life adjustment. Participants comprised 235 college students enrolled in five universities located in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas. To assess the mediating effects, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were performed using SPSS 25.0. The results were as follows: first, significant positive correlations were observed between parental attachment, satisfaction of basic psychological needs, and college life adjustment; second, satisfaction of basic psychological needs partially mediated the relationship between parental attachment and college life adjustment. This indicates that the satisfaction of basic psychological needs - such as autonomy, competence, and relatedness - is extremely important in enabling college students to adjust to college life.
