An Analysis on Job Satisfaction & Disposition of Human Resources for Effective Administration in Korean School Libraries (효과적인 학교도서관 경영을 위한 인적자원의 배치 현황 및 직무만족도 분석 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the job satisfaction of school library employees with independent variables. and to discern the variables that cause the greatest impact on job satisfaction. The study's 254 questionaries were collected from December 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006 from 327 school library employees. In this study, it is proved that there are differences between the job satisfaction of school library employees and independent variables: gender, the level of school library, length of service. and employment style. Tips for the inherent roles of school library media center were Provided based on inadequacies and other findings revealed through this study.

Organizational Culture And Emotional Intelligence As Predictors Of Job Performance Among Library Personnel In Academic Libraries In Edo State, Nigeria

  • This study was designed to investigate organizational culture and emotional intelligence as predictors of job performance among library personnel in Edo state, Nigeria. The survey research design was employed for the study with a population size of 181 library personnel in the 15 academic libraries under study, and due to the manageable population size, total enumeration was adopted as the sampling technique. The questionnaire was used to elicit data from the respondents. Of the 181 copies of the questionnaire administered, 163 copies were retrieved and found valid for analysis constituting a 90% response rate. Four research questions and four null hypotheses (tested at 0.05 level of significance) were formulated to guide the study. The tool used to analyze the research question was descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlation and multiple regression) for testing the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that there is a high level of job performance, good organizational culture, and high level of emotional intelligence among the personnel. Organizational culture and emotional intelligence jointly and significantly predict job performance of personnel. There is significant positive correlation between organizational culture and job performance. The linear combination of emotional intelligence and organizational culture predict job performance of library personnel in the academic libraries under study. The research concludes that there is a need for high job performance in libraries which is predicted by the organizational culture of the library and the level of emotional intelligence of the library personnel.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the core tasks, degree of professionalism on tasks, and job importance recognized by the library staff through job analysis. The results of this study will be able to take advantage of political materials about the staffing and organizational structure of public libraries in South Korea. Survey to target 49 librarians of public libraries in Gyeonggi Province was performed to job analysis. The 21.1% of library tasks was confirmed to be a high job importance, and the 69.6% of entire tasks had the high professionalism. And library staff members recognized that 73.1% of library tasks should be performed by librarians.

  • The library manager's communication ability can influence organizational management because the types and ways of organizational management is carried out can be determined by the manager's communication ability. In that, this study intends to examine the influence of the library manager's communication ability on job performance and role-conflict of the library staff. To do so, on top of the conceptual framework of communication and the library as an organization, this study builds theoretical underpinnings on the library manager's communication ability, job performance and role-conflict of the library staff. Using a questionnaire survey method, this study surveys 127 library staff from 8 public libraries in Seoul, statistically analyzes the response through the SPSS20 statistical package, and examines the relationship between and among the variables. Based on the analysis, a discussion on the influence of the library manager's communication ability on job performance and role-conflict of the library staff follows.

  • The purpose of this paper based on the preliminary research is to dove)or the standard job models for children's service of public and children libraries in Korea. To do so, the author surveyed and analysed the perception of library staff of current jobs for children's service using the online questionnaire. And author proposed the standard models(importance difficulty, professionalism, and performance requirements) of library jobs for strengthening children's services. In addition, the this study suggested a plans to enhance professionalism of children's librarian and to introduce its qualification system.

  • This paper is a preliminary study to develop the standard job model for strengthening children services in Korean public libraries. To do so, the researchers reviewed and analysed the current status, features, and job of children's services of sample public libraries in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Korea. As a result. library management, development and preservation of childrens' materials, technical services and database management, public services, program services related to book and reading, cooperation activities with the relevant agencies and facilities revealed as a key job of children's librarian. Based on these results, subsequent research will be to develop a standard job model for children's services of public library in Korea.

Psychological Aspects of Job Satisfaction Among Library and Information Science Professionals

  • This study assesses the psychological aspects which influence job satisfaction among library and information science professionals. The study is based on primary data collected from the library and information science professionals working in the higher education institutions of Jammu and Kashmir, India. In all 264 responses were collected, comprising 44.3% male respondents and 55.7% females. The majority, 74.2% of respondents, are under 45 years of age, while 67.4% of respondents have a master's degree in library and information science. Of the total respondents, 7.6% conceded to being incompetent, while 13.3% viewed their peers as incompetent. The majority, 25% of respondents, replied that the library profession is a thankless job and 70.8% of respondents viewed that they are emotionally attached to their profession, while at the gender level, compared to 75.5% females, 65% of male respondents admitted to being emotionally attached to their profession. The encouraging part is that 26.5% of respondents replied that they love doing their job beyond office hours and 75.8% of respondents replied that they would not seek voluntary retirement, while 41.7% of respondents showed willingness to continue working as library and information science professionals postretirement, if engaged.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate of differences on the viewpoint of value, job aspiration, job attitude between male and female librarians. The objects of survey are 60 librarians at National Assembly Library. The results of the survey are as follows 1) In general, librarians have advanced propensity on viewpoint of value. But female librarians appear more traditional propensity than male librarians 2) Generally, the ranking of core factors in job aspiration appears ① realise professional value, ② self confidence in occupation, ③ recognized by specialist.   • This study is to investigate the job characteristics and the job satisfaction of the administrators in small libraries. Also, it is to catch individual differences between the administrators and provide the preliminary data which is helpful to the operation of organizations and offer of information service with selection, supplement of administrators in small libraries and employment placement which is regarding individual characteristics that perceive specific job, and the job satisfaction. As a result, individual characteristics, such as marital status, gender, and age, don't affect the job characteristics, but certificates, and formation of employment influences meaningfully to the job characteristics. It convinced that the individual characteristics, such as marital status, age, and formation of employment, influence to the job satisfaction.
