This paper presents the digital signal processing submodule of a 100Base-TX Ethernet receiver to support 100Mbps at TP cable channel. The proposed submodule consists of programmable gain controller, timing recovery, adaptive equalizer and baseline wander compensator. The measured Bit Error Rate is less than $10^{-12}BER$ when continuously receiving data up to 150m. The proposed signal processing submodule is implemented in digital circuits except for PLL and amplifier. The performance improvement of the proposed equalizer and BLW compensator is measured about 1dB compared with the existing architecture that removes BLW using errors of an adaptive equalizer. The architecture has been modeled using Verilog-HDL and synthesized using samsung $0.18{\mu}m$ cell library. The implemented digital signal processing submodule operates at 142.7 MHz and the total number of gates are about 128,528.

This paper proposes an enhanced degree computationless modified Euclid's(E-DCME) algorithm and its architecture for Reed-Solomon decoders. The proposed E-DCME algorithm has shorter critical path delay that is $T_{mult}+T_{add}+T_{mux}$ compared with the existing modified Euclid's algorithm and the degree computationless modified Euclid's(DCME) algorithm since it uses new initial conditions. The proposed E-DCME architecture employing a systolic array requires only 2t-1 clock cycles to solve the key equation without initial latency. In addition, the E-DCME architecture consisting of 3t basic cells has regularity and scalability since it uses only one processing element. The E-DCME architecture using the $0.18{\mu}m$ Samsung standard cell library consists of 18,000 gates.

This paper describes an area-efficient design of SHA-256 hash function that is widely used in various security protocols including digital signature, authentication code, key generation. The SHA-256 hash processor includes a padder block for padding and parsing input message, so that it can operate without software for preprocessing. Round function was designed with a 16-bit data-path that processed 64 round computations in 128 clock cycles, resulting in an optimized area per throughput (APT) performance as well as small area implementation. The SHA-256 hash processor was verified by FPGA implementation using Virtex5 device, and it was estimated that the throughput was 337 Mbps at maximum clock frequency of 116 MHz. The synthesis for ASIC implementation using a $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library shows that it has 13,251 gate equivalents (GEs) and it can operate up to 200 MHz clock frequency.

In this paper, we describe VLSI design and performance evaluation of OCB-AES crytographic algorithm that simulataneously provides privacy and authenticity. The OCB-AES crytographic algorithm sovles the problems such as long operation time and large hardware of conventional crytographic system, because the conventional system must implement the privancy and authenticity sequentially with seqarated algorithms and hardware. The OCB-AES processor with area-efficient modular offset generator and tag generator is designed using IDEC Samsung 0.35um standard cell library and consists of about 55,700 gates. Its cipher rate is about 930Mbps and the number of clock cycles needed to generate the 128-bit tags for authenticity and integrity is (m+2)${\times}$(Nr+1), where m and Nr represent the number of block for message and number of rounds for AES encryption, respectively. The OCB-AES processor can be applicable to soft cryptographic IP of IEEE 802.11i wireless LAN and Mobile SoC.

This paper describes a design of RSA public-key cryptography processor supporting key length of 2,048 bits. A modular multiplier that is core arithmetic function in RSA cryptography was designed using word-based Montgomery multiplication algorithm, and a modular exponentiation was implemented by using Left-to-Right (LR) binary exponentiation algorithm. A computation of a modular multiplication takes 8,386 clock cycles, and RSA encryption and decryption requires 185,724 and 25,561,076 clock cycles, respectively. The RSA processor was verified by FPGA implementation using Virtex5 device. The RSA cryptographic processor synthesized with 100 MHz clock frequency using a 0.18 um CMOS cell library occupies 12,540 gate equivalents (GEs) and 12 kbits memory. It was estimated that the RSA processor can operate up to 165 MHz, and the estimated time for RSA encryption and decryption operations are 1.12 ms and 154.91 ms, respectively.

This paper proposes a hardware architecture for an efficient SAO(Sample Adaptive Offset) with low area for HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder. SAO is a newly adopted technique in HEVC as part of the in-loop filter. SAO reduces mean sample distortion by adding offsets to reconstructed samples. The existing SAO requires a great deal of computational and processing time for UHD(Ultra High Definition) video due to sample by sample processing. To reduce SAO processing time, the proposed SAO hardware architecture processes four samples simultaneously, and is implemented with a 2-step pipelined architecture. In addition, to reduce hardware area, it has a single architecture for both luma and chroma components and also uses optimized and common operators. The proposed SAO hardware architecture is designed using Verilog HDL(Hardware Description Language), and has a total of 190k gates in TSMC $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS standard cell library. At 200MHz, it can support 4K UHD video encoding at 60fps in real time, but operates at a maximum of 250MHz.
Objectives: Post-term pregnancy is a condition associated with increased maternal and fetal complications. Administration of castor oil causes cervical stimulation by increasing the production of prostaglandins. We examined the effects of castor oil on cervical ripening and labor induction through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: The search process was performed to obtain relevant articles from databases including Pubmed, Cochrane library, Scopus, Science direct, SID, Iran Medex, and Google Scholar using the English keywords of cervical ripening, post-term, castor oil, labor induction, Bishop score, and pregnancy considering all possible combinations without time constraints and their Persian equivalents from national databases. Results: A total of eight related articles from the 19 primary studies were extracted and systematically reviewed. According to a cumulative chart, the difference in the post-intervention Bishop score was statistically significant (standard mean difference [SMD]: 1.64, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.67-2.11, p = 0.001), indicating an effect of castor oil on increasing the Bishop score. In addition, the difference in labor induction was statistically significant after the intervention (odds ratio: 11.67, 95% CI: 3.34-40.81, p = 0.001), indicating an effect of castor oil on increasing the odds ratio of labor induction (experience of vaginal delivery). Conclusion: This meta-analysis showed that oral administration of castor oil is effective for cervical ripening and labor induction. Midwives should closely monitor pregnant women with prolonged labor and collaborate with obstetricians to employ castor oil as a safe intervention to induce cervical ripening and labor to prevent undue caesarean surgery.
An artificial neural network (ANN) that identifies radionuclides from low-count gamma spectra of a NaI scintillator is proposed. The ANN was trained and tested using simulated spectra. 14 target nuclides were considered corresponding to the requisite radionuclide library of a radionuclide identification device mentioned in IEC 62327-2017. The network shows an average identification accuracy of 98.63% on the validation dataset, with the gross counts in each spectrum Nc = 100~10000 and the signal to noise ratio SNR = 0.05-1. Most of the false predictions come from nuclides with low branching ratio and/or similar decay energies. If the Nc>1000 and SNR>0.3, which is defined as the minimum identifiable condition, the averaged identification accuracy is 99.87%. Even when the source and the detector are covered with lead bricks and the response function of the detector thus varies, the ANN which was trained using non-shielding spectra still shows high accuracy as long as the minimum identifiable condition is satisfied. Among all the considered nuclides, only the identification accuracy of 235U is seriously affected by the shielding. Identification of other nuclides shows high accuracy even the shielding condition is changed, which indicates that the ANN has good generalization performance.
