  • In this paper, we made an investigation into the awareness of mathematics by college students, they took a course in mathematics as the liberal arts. Mathematics as the liberal arts is divided into 2 types: mathematics focused on calculus or statistics, and living mathematics except them. We researched mathematics as the liberal arts on a curriculum in several universities and analyzed them. From these results, we suggest the improvement of mathematics as the liberal arts in university.

  • In this paper, In this paper, we study the recognition of undergraduate students and professors about the relation between mathematics learning contents of high school liberal arts course and major fields of college of business administration. We chose 155 undergraduate students and 6 professors at college of business administration in M university and investigate their recognition about the relation between mathematics learning contents of high school liberal arts course and major fields of college of business administration. We found following facts. First, mathematics education in high school should be based on understanding of mathematical conceptions and principles rather than problem-solving skills to intensifying the relation between mathematics of high school liberal arts course and major fields of college of business administration. Second, we have impressed upon them, whom are going to college of business administration, the need for more mathematics to study a major field.

  • In this corrigendum, we offer a correction to [J. Korean Math. Soc. 54 (2017), No. 2, 461-477]. We construct a counterexample for the strengthened Cauchy-Schwarz inequality used in the original paper. In addition, we provide a new proof for Lemma 5 of the original paper, an estimate for the extremal eigenvalues of the standard unpreconditioned FETI-DP dual operator.

  • In this paper, we survey the thought of students for the reason of the study of mathematics, for mathematics, for the textbook of mathematics and the attitude appling mathematical knowledge in the real life and analyze that. We have a correct understanding how to study mathematics and that motivates study of mathematics to students. Student have a correct understanding how to use basic knowledge of mathematical theory in the real life and have for the study of mathematics. In this article, we investigate the reason for studying mathematics in the real life and analyze the way how to use basic knowledge of mathematical theories through actual examples. The reasons for studying math are divided into 3 categories: mathematics for obtaining common sense and wisdom, practical mathematics for application, and mathematics as a liberal art for promoting our characters and recreation. We investigate the reasons for studying mathematics in each category. By theses results, we make the effectual educational method for mathematics and investigate the effect.

  • Using the thawed Gaussian wave packets [E. J. Heller, J. Chem. Phys. 62, 1544 (1975)] and the adaptive reinitialization technique employing the frame operator [L. M. Andersson et al., J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 35, 7787 (2002)], a trajectory-based Gaussian wave packet method is introduced that can be applied to scattering and time-dependent problems. This method does not require either the numerical multidimensional integrals for potential operators or the inversion of nearly-singular matrices representing the overlap of overcomplete Gaussian basis functions. We demonstrate a possibility that the method can be a promising candidate for the time-dependent $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ equation solver by applying to tunneling, high-order harmonic generation, and above-threshold ionization problems in one-dimensional model systems. Although the efficiency of the method is confirmed in one-dimensional systems, it can be easily extended to higher dimensional systems.

  • This study was designed to gain insights into contemporary secondary mathematics curriculum revision in Korea. The two secondary mathematics curriculum reports submitted in the 1920s, the Kilpatrick Reports and 1923 Reports were compared and contrasted as the origin of recent math wars, and their backgrounds, committee members, viewpoints of math and math education and contents were analyzed to understand the perspectives of the two extreeme parts. Kilpatrick Reports was selected at that time, but nevertheless 1923 Report had taken a role of guiding secondary mathematics in US until the New Math era. The direction and process of mathematics curriculum revision were suggested based on the analysis of reports' short- and long-term influences. A close examination of the curriculum revision process in US and in Korea and the implications from the results are also included in the suggestion.

  • In this paper, we evaluated educational effects of H-STEAM group play contents(a course) and tried to suggest a convergent model for college liberal art curriculum. We opened a mixed course(math, art, engineering, and humanities) with team teaching for this purpose. For the test, we collected data from survey, K-W-L sheet, and reflection paper from 23 students who enrolled in this course. Students should do a team project during the course, propose a new group game, and write K-W-L sheet at the end of each session and reflection paper at the final stage. As a result, it is said that H-STEAM group contents had an effect on students' satisfaction and achievement. During the course, students made academic efforts and were able to construct convergent knowledge from the four fields. From this study, we are sure that H-STEAM contents can play a substitute role for the traditional liberal arts program and innovate the curriculum for the knowledge convergence society.

  • One of the essential factors for successful college mathematics class is to provide a strong motivation for learning to students. In this respect, this paper attempted to find out how the letter-writing assignment can change students' learning attitude and enhance their motivation for further mathematical investigation. The process is to have all students write up letters containing a summary of the major points covered during the semester, and to find out how valuable is the letter-writing assignment. The major finding of this research is that the letter-writing assignment makes a notable contribution to the desirable change of students' learning attitude. From this finding, we suggest that the letter-writing assignment be adopted by more math classes and expect that such expansion of the letter-writing assignment would have a positive influence on the students' learning attitude.

  • Pythagorean thoerem exists in several equivalent forms in the Euclidean plane, that is, the Hilbert plane which in addition satisfies the parallel axiom. In this article, we investigate the truthness and mutual relationships of those propositions in various non-Hilbert planes which satisfy the parallel axiom and all the Hilbert axioms except the SAS axiom.
