  • In recent years, shipping and ports industries are faced with enormous changes like globalization, market liberalization and borderless businesses. To cope with this competitive environment, a certain form of cooperation among ports is necessary to provide high quality of services and lower costs to establish their market power against shipping companies. The purpose of this study is to identify the motivation of the strategic alliances between ports and demonstrate the level of importance using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). Among four motivations of the strategic alliances which are strategic motivation, economic motivation, operational motivation and marketing motivation, economic motivation is the most important factor for ports alliances than other factors. This is because economic motivation among strategic alliances allow ports in the same market to rationalize supply and demand, thus avoiding unnecessary over-supply and over-competition and also can reduce service costs by using comparative advantages of each partner which make costs cheaper.

  • This study examines the simultaneous impact of gender and administrative post on the research motivation of university lecturers. There are 475 selected questionnaires that are qualified for data processing and the collected data are analyzed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results show the relationship between administration involvement and scientific research of lecturers. In general, lecturers with administrative post have higher research motivation than lecturers without administrative post. More specifically, the level of administrative post has positive correlation with research motivation of female lecturers, but has negative correlation of male lecturers. It means that a female lecturer with higher administrative post also has more motivation to conduct research. Conversely, the higher administrative post a male lecturer has, the less research motivation he is. The cause of this difference is the pressure of earning money on Asian men, including Vietnamese men, who are considered to be main breadwinners of their family. When having an administration post, the more chances male lecturers have to earn money, the less time they can spend for scientific research. This suggests that the solution for managers is to perform annual assessment, fulfill promotion process, build up motivation and reward system, and establish recruitment and promotion policies.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the lecture method and physical activity level of Korean university students during the COVID-19 pandemic to determine their effect on the students' mental health, self-efficacy, and learning motivation. Methods : A total of 203 participants (53 male, 150 female) completed the study. An online survey was distributed through a social media platform between March 24 and April 7, 2021. Participants completed the international physical activity questionnaire-short form (IPAQ-SF), COVID-19 stress scale for Korean people (CSSK), the Korean version of the general health questionnaire (KGHQ-30), and self-efficacy and learning motivation scales. Results : Among the general characteristics of the study subjects, there were statistically significant differences in the IPAQ-SF, CSSK, KGHQ, self-efficacy, and learning motivation measures by sex. There were no significant differences in the degree of IPAQ-SF, CSSK, KGHQ, self-efficacy, and learning motivation among any of the lecture method and university area groups. The level of physical activity corresponded with significant differences in KGHQ, self-efficacy, and learning motivation, excluding CSSK. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between IPAQ and self-efficacy (r=.273, p<.001), IPAQ-SF and learning motivation (r=.201, p<.01), CSSK and KGHQ (r=.271, p<.001), self-efficacy and learning motivation measures (r=.506, p<.001). There was a statistically significant negative correlation between IPAQ-SF and KGHQ (r=-.203, p<.01) and between KGHQ and self-efficacy (r=-.558, p<.001). Conclusion : CSSK and KGHQ measures were significantly higher in female students than in male students. Therefore, it is important to consider sex as a protective factor in the mental health management of university students in the context of an infectious disease pandemic. The results of this study suggest that university students should continue to engage in physical activities, even during a pandemic, and that it is necessary to prepare health management to improve mental health in such situations.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the preferable motivation types in science-learning and to find out the relationship between these types and scientific achievement of students in the secondary school. The subjects of the study were the second grade 581 students sampled by random cluster sampling method in three middle schools and three high schools. Three motivation types in science learning were analyzed, and they were named to task-orientation, ego-orientation and work-avoidance. From our results, secondary school students preferred task-orientation and work-avoidance to ego-orientation. In the case of task-orientation, high school students, especially in male group, had much preferable tendency than that of middle school students (p<0.001). It is interpreted that, as the level of scientific content of texts or the cognitive level of students were higher, a preference for the motivation type was focused to the task-orientation, especially in male group. In the case of ego-orientation, the female group showed much preferable tendency than that of male group in middle school (p<0.05). However, the female group in high school students was not different from the other groups in this motivation type. In the case of work-avoidance, there were not only a significant difference between males and females in the middle school (p<0.001), but also difference between middle and high school students in female group (p<0.05). It showed that female group had much preferable tendency than that of male group, and this tendency was decreased to the higher grade students in secondary school. From the analysis of correlation between motivation types and scientific achievement, task-orientation and work-avoidance were correlated to the scientific achievement. Its results were interpreted that the scientific achievement could be accomplished by the external motivation stimulus as well as the scientific content of texts. The task-orientation were comparatively correlated to the intelligence quality. It means that the students having high intelligence quality showed much preferable for the task-orientation.
