The most lethal foreign body in meat is a needle, and X-ray images are used to detect it. However, because the difference in thickness and fat content is severe depending on the type of meat and the part of the meat, the shade difference and contrast appear severe. This problem causes difficulty in automatic classification. In this paper, we propose a method for generating training patterns by efficient pre-processing and classifying needles in meat using a convolution neural network. Approximately 24000 training patterns and 4000 test patterns were used to verify the proposed method, and an accuracy of 99.8% was achieved.

Networks in Mobile ad hoc contain distribution and do not have a predefined structure which practically means that network modes can play the role of being clients or servers. The routing protocols used in mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANETs) are characterized by limited bandwidth, mobility, limited power supply, and routing protocols. Hybrid routing protocols solve the delay problem of reactive routing protocols and the routing overhead of proactive routing protocols. The Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm is used to solve other real-life problems such as the travelling salesman problem, capacity planning, and the vehicle routing challenge. Bio-inspired methods have probed lethal in helping to solve the problem domains in these networks. Hybrid routing protocols combine the distance vector routing protocol (DVRP) and the link-state routing protocol (LSRP) to solve the routing problem.
Effects of the combinations of six oxygen concentrations ($control, 0.6, 1.0, 2.0, 3.4 and 7.4 mg DO/l$) and two salinity levels ($20{\%_{\circ}} and 32{\%_{\circ}}$) on the rates of oxygen consumption, ammonia excretion and mortality of the mysid, Neomysis awatschensis were tested at $20{\circ}C$. The lethal level ($96 hr-LC-(50)$) of dissolved oxygen for mysid at $20{\%_{\circ}} and 32{\%_{\circ}} were 2,20 mg DO/l and 1.60 mg DO/l$ respectively, and all mysids died within $24hr at 0.6 mg DO/l$. Oxygen consumption rate of mysid was increased with dissolved oxygen increase at $20{\%_{\circ}} and 32{\%_{\circ}}$, but ammonia excretion rate was high af $1.0 mg DO/l$ during 96h exposure to DO concentration, and significantly greater in $20{\%_{\circ}} than 32{\%_{\circ}}$. $O:N$ ratio of mysid exposed during 96hr with salinity anil dissolved oxygen was below $10 at 20{\%_{\circ}} and 1,0{\~}2.0 mg DO/l, and was 4.4 at 32{\%_{\circ}} and 1.0 mg DO/l$. These results indicated that mysids were capable of changing their energy substrate in response to salinity and DO changes, and obtaining energy from proteins.

It was examined whether the common belief that "cultured puffer fishes do not contain tetrodotoxin (TTX)", the major lethal substance that accidently causes death in consumers of those fishes, is true in river puffer fish Takifugu obscurus. In mouse bioassay, lethal levels of toxins were detected in the ranks: gonad>liver>intestine>muscle>skin in wild puffer fish. In contrast, no mortality occurred in the mouse bioassay on cultured fish. However, there were sleepiness, sluggish behavior, and hind limb paralysis with the tissue extracts of cultured fish suggesting the presence of TTX or other similarly acting toxins. An attempt to confirm the presence of TTX in cultured fish with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was not very successful. The results suggest possible existence of TTX toxins or similarly acting toxins.
Mn(II)+succinate decreased the carotenoid formation of the yeast Phaffia rhodozyma, probably by scavenging $O_2$. When duroquinone (DQ), an internal and external $O_2$ generator, was added to medium, P. rhodozyma produced more amount of carotenoids. The increased carotenoid production was destroyed by oxygen radical (OR) scavengers, ascorbate+Cu(II) and dimethylsulfoxide. When sub-lethal concentrations of $H_2O_2$ , an external OR source, and antimycin, an internal OR inducer, were used, the effect of $H_2O_2$ on carotenoid formation and composition was less significant than that of antimycin. Addition of superoxide dismutase, an external OR remover, rescued cells from death caused by the high concentration of DO. In this condition, the yeast culture showed an increase in carotenoid content. Addition of DQ into P. rhodozyma culture in the stationary phase did not increase carotenoid production. Therefore, carotenoid formation was stimulated by internal ORs in the growing yeast. It was probably due to release of catabolite repression on carotenogenesis in the yeast. Aeration was important for carotenoid production but was not as effective as the internal OR producer, DQ.
Colon cancer is one of the most lethal and common malignancies worldwide. STK899704, a novel synthetic agent, has been reported to exhibit anticancer effects towards numerous cancer cells. However, the effect of STK899704 on the biological properties of colon cancer, including cancer cell migration and cancer stem cells (CSCs), remains unknown. Here, we examined the inhibitory effect of STK899704 on cell migration and CSC stemness. In the wound healing assay, STK899704 significantly inhibited the motility of colon cancer cells. Furthermore, STK899704 downregulated the mRNA expression levels of the cell migration mediator focal adhesion kinase (FAK). STK899704 also suppressed mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase and extracellular signal-regulated kinase, which are downstream signaling molecules of FAK. Additionally, STK899704 inhibited stemness gene expression and sphere formation in colon cancer stem cells. These results suggest that STK899704 can be used to treat human colon cancer.
Jopock (Jpk) has previously been ascertained that induces both bacterial and mammalian cell death. The Escherichia coli cells expressing Glutathion S-transferase (GST) fused Jpk showed elongated phenotype and inhibited cell growth which led eventual cell death. In an attempt to search the genetic suppressor of the lethal protein Jpk in bacterial cells, we constructed a unidirectional protein expression vector inserting tac promoter next to the C-terminus Jpk in pGEX-Jpk. The function of additional tac promoter was confirmed by substituting lac promoter in Plac-TOPO plasmid. The cells harboring plac- TOPO, which regulates $lacZ{\alpha}$ gene expression under lac promoter, formed blue colonies in 5-bromo-4-3 $indolyo-{\beta}-D-galactoside$ (X-gal) plate. When lac promoter was changed to tac promoter, same results were observed. Since the addition of tac promoter did not affect the toxic effect of Jpk, the pGEX-Jpk-ptac could be a useful vector for the screening of suppressor(s) for Jpk, in which GST-Jpk and a putative Jpk-suppressing protein are coexpressing from two unidirectional tac promoters, which response to the same inducer, $isopropyl-{\beta}-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG)$.
The sudden drop of water temperature in winter is very threatening factor that affects the productivity of farmed fish and the management in aquafarm. In this study, we investigated the effect of low temperature on the survival, oxygen consumption and stress responses of parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus due to acute drop of water temperature. The survival rate of parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus was 5% at 6℃, 95% at 8℃ and 100% at 10℃ on the 4th day of exposure in each experimental temperature. Low-lethal temperature for 4days of parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus (4 day-LT50) was 6.99℃ (confidence limit, 6.55-7.42℃). Oxygen consumption rate was significantly decreased with decreasing water temperature. Temperature coefficient (Q10) was found to be 4.0 between 10℃ and 8℃ and 0.39 between 8℃ and 6℃. As a result of investigating the stress response according to the drop in water temperature, the concentration of SOD (Superoxide dismutase), cortisol, glucose, total Ig, AST (Aspartate) and ALT (Alanine aminotransferase) increased with decreasing of water temperature. This study would be useful for the management of temperature about cultured fish.
This study was carried out to define the effects of anti-juvenile hormone analogue(AJH) treatment at different silkworm larval stages on some silk filament properties. It was revealed that the treatments at the 1st and 2nd days of the 3rd instar as well as the 1st day of the 4th instar resulted to trimolters induction without lethal effect. The trimolters induced by treatment at the 1st day of the 4th instar showed the shortest larval duration and the lowest single cocoon weight, cocoon shell ratio, cocoon size, single filament length and denier of filament compared with those of the control, while the trimolters induced by the 3rd-instar treatment showed intermediate values. All treatments showed no significant differences from the aspect fo degumming ratio, elongation rate and crystallinity index of fibroin. However the silk filament obtained from the treatment at the 1st day of the 4th instar showed the highest tenacity which was revealed to be related to the better uniformity of filament by the means of microscopic photographing. FT-IR spectroscopy of the silk fibroin showed a sharp and strong peak at the position of 794.72 cm-1 in all AJH-treated samples regardless of trimolters induction, which was absent in control.
Tetanus is a life-threatening infection that is rare in the developed country. Because of the rarity: of the disease, the clinician may be unfamiliar with the clinical presentation and unsuspecting of the diagnosis. However, tetanus can rapidly progress into lethal muscle spasms accompanied by respiratory insufficiency, and it has a mortality of 15 to 30%. The most common presenting symptom was trismus, followed by neck pain, dysphagia, generalized pain and facial muscle contractions. Dysphagia is a common symptom of tetanus, but not common as an initial symptom, the correct diagnosis and adequate therapy are likely to be delayed. Treatment involves administration of penicillin, tetanus immune-globulin, debridement of wounds, aggressive supportive care, and initiation of active immunization. We report an elderly woman presenting with dysphagia as an initial symptom of tetanus with review of literature.
