  • One of display trends today is development of high pixel density. To get high PPI, a small size of pixel must be developed. RGB pixel is arranged by evaporation process which determines pixel size. Normally, a fine metal mask (FMM; Invar alloy) has been used for evaporation process and it has advantages such as good strength, and low thermal expansion coefficient at low temperature. A FMM has been manufactured by chemical etching which has limitation to controlling the pattern shape and size. One of alternative method for patterning FMM is laser micromachining. Femtosecond laser is normally considered to improve those disadvantages for laser micromachining process due to such short pulse duration. In this paper, a femtosecond laser drilling for thickness of 16 ㎛ FMM is examined. Additionally, we introduce experimental results for controlling taper angle of hole by vibration module adapted in laser system. We used Ti:Sapphire based femtosecond laser with attenuating optics, co-axial illumination, vision system, 3-axis linear stage and vibration module. By controlling vibration amplitude, entrance and exit diameters are controllable. Using vibrating objective lens, we can control taper angle when femtosecond laser hole drilling by moving focusing point. The larger amplitude of vibration we control, the smaller taper angle will be carried out.

  • Small injection molded articles such as lens and mobile product parts are usually molded in multi-cavity mold. The problem occurring in multi-cavity molding is flow unbalance among the cavities. The flow unbalance affects the dimensions and physical properties of molded articles. First of all, the origin of flow unbalance is geometrical unbalance of the delivery system. However, even the geometry of the delivery system is well balanced, cavity unbalance occurs. This comes from the temperature distributions in the cross-section of runner. Temperature distribution depends upon injection speed because heat generation near runner wall is high at high injection speed. Among the operational conditions, injection speed is the most significant process variable affecting the filling unbalances in multi-cavity injection molding. In this study, experimental study of flow unbalance has been conducted for various injection speeds and materials. Also, the filling unbalances were compared with CAE results. The dimensions and weights of multi-cavity molded parts were examined. The results showed that the filling unbalances vary according to the injection speeds and resins. Subsequently, the unbalanced filling and pressure distribution in the multi-cavity affect the dimensions and physical states of molded parts.

  • In this study, laser-induced periodic surface structure (LIPSS) was fabricated on Ni, Si, and GaAs samples using a flat-top beam with a uniform energy distribution that was fabricated using a Gaussian femtosecond laser with a mechanical slit and tube lens. Unlike the Gaussian beam, the flat-top beam has a uniform beam profile, therefore the center and the periphery of the fabricated LIPSS have similar line periodicity. In addition, LIPSS was obtained not only in metals but also in metalloids and metals and metalloid compounds by using the narrow pulse width characteristic of a femtosecond laser.

  • In this study, a diamond turning machine and a laser-assisted machining module were utilized for the complex combined cutting of aspheric shapes and fine patterns on the surface of high-hardness brittle material, silicon. The analysis of material's form accuracy and corrective machining was conducted based on key factors such as laser output, rotational speed, feed rate, and cutting depth to achieve form accuracy below 1 ㎛ and surface roughness below 0.1 ㎛. The cutting condition and corrective machining methods were investigated to achieve the desired form accuracy and surface roughness. The rotational speed of the spindle and the linear feed rate of the diamond turning machine were varied in five stages for the cutting condition test. Surface roughness and form accuracy were measured using both a contact surface profilometer and a non-contact surface profilometer. The experimental results revealed a tendency of improved surface roughness with increased rotational speed of the workpiece, and the best surface roughness and form accuracy were observed at a feed rate of 5 mm/min. Furthermore, based on the cutting condition experiments, corrective machining was performed. The experimental results demonstrated an improvement in form accuracy from 0.94 ㎛ to 0.31 ㎛ and a significant reduction in the average value of the surface roughness curve from 0.234 ㎛ to 0.061 ㎛. This research serves as a foundation for future studies focusing on the machinability in relation to laser output parameters.

  • In order to improve and supplement the shielding method for electron beam treatment, we designed a patient-specific shielding method using a 3D printer, and evaluated the usefulness by comparing and analyzing the distribution of electron beam doses to adjacent organs. In order to treat 5 cm sized superficial tumors around the lens, a CT Simulator was used to scan the Alderson Rando phantom and the DICOM file was converted into an STL file. The converted STL file was used to design a patient-specific shield and mold that matched the body surface contour of the treatment site. The thickness of the shield was 1 cm and 1.5 cm, and the mold was printed using a 3D printer, and the patient customized shielding block (PCSB) was fabricated with a cerrobend alloy with a thickness of 1 cm and 1.5 cm. The dosimetry was performed by attaching an EBT3 film on the surface of the Alderson Rando phantom eyelid and measuring the dose of 6, 9, and 12 MeV electron beams on the film using four shielding methods. Shielding rates were 83.89%, 87.14%, 87.39% at 6, 9, and 12 MeV without shielding, 1 cm (92.04%, 87.48%, 86.49%), 1.5 cm (91.13%, 91.88% with PSCB), 92.66%) The shielding rate was measured as 1 cm (90.7%, 92.23%, 88.08%) and 1.5 cm (88.31%, 90.66%, 91.81%) when the shielding block and the patient-specific shield were used together. PCSB fabrication improves shielding efficiency over conventional shielding methods. Therefore, PSCB may be useful for clinical application.

  • Today, there are lots of progresses in the field of lens researches, especially in the microlens fabrication. Unlike normal lenses, microlens has been widely used as a role of improving the performance of photonic devices which increase the optical precision, and also used in the fields of the display. In this paper, polymer microlenses with $300{\mu}m$ diameter were replicated through hot-embossing from nickel mold which was fabricated by micro-EDM. After hot-embossing process, the polymer microlenses have a rough surface due to the crater formed by micro-EDM process, which is projected onto the surface of the lenses. The surface of polymer microlenses was polished using solvent vapor to improve the surface roughness of the microlenses without changing their shape. In the experiment, the surface roughness was improved with the processing time and vapor temperature. Also, the roughness improvement was greatly affected by the solubility difference between polymer and solvent.

  • By the recently developed GMP(Glass Molding Press) process, aspheric glass lenses are widely used in many optical applications such as digital cameras, optical data storages and electrical devices etc. The GMP process can economically produce complex shaped glass lenses with high precision and good repeatability. This study deals the optimization of molding conditions for aspheric glass lenses in progressive GMP process through Design Of Experiment(Taguchi method). Tree main factors for molding conditions were selected based on pressure, temperature and cooling time at 1st cooling stage. From the analysis of experiments which were preformed with 3-cavity glass mold, it was revealed that the cooling time was the most sensitive parameter for form accuracy(PV) in progressive GMP process.

  • In order to obtain high refractive plastic materials, 1,2 -ethylenedisulfanylbis(2-mercaptomethyl-1-ethanthiol) (ESTT) was newly prepared in good yield by the reaction of 1,2-ethylenedisulfanylbis(2-bromomethyl-1-ethanthiol) (ESTB) with thiourea followed by hydrolysis using an aqueous ammonia solution and characterized by $^1$H-NMR (-SH at 1.7 ppm), $\^$13/C-NMR(-CH$_2$SH at 28.4 ppm) and FT-IR (-SH at 2540 cm$\^$-1/) spectroscopy, etc. Polythiourethanes (PTU) were obtained from the combinations of ESTT with each of 4,4'-methylenebis(phenylisocyanate) (MDI), tolyene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), mxylene diisocyanate (XDI), and 1,6-diisocyanatohexane (HMDI) in the presence of dibutyltin dilaurylate as a catalyst, in a casting mold, and characterized by FT-IR (existence of N=C=O) spectroscopy and elemental analyzer (sulfur content). Accordingly, their thermal, mechanical and optical properties were investigated by using DSC, TGA, hardness tester and refractometer: both the melting point on DSC and crystallinity on X -ray diffraction (XRD) for specimens of PTUs were not observed. PTUs with T$\_$g/s above 110 $^{\circ}C$ showed good hardness (Shore D) in the range of 86 to 89. Thermal stabilities of PTUs obtained by using ESTT and each of diisocyanates containing aromatic rings were especially good. Also, the optical transmittances of amorphous PTUs through UV-visible source in the range of 400 to 600 nm were good. PTUs showed refractive indexes above 1.60, and their refractive indexes gradually increased with increase of sulfur contents.

  • Lens and DVD require high quality of optical property. Conventional injection molded products contain high residual stress and this invokes birefringence since high cavity pressure and high temperature variation are involved in a molding process. Thus these products are often molded by injection compression molding in order to minimize the residual stress through reducing cavity pressure and uniform cavity pressure. In this study, molding parameters affecting molding quality such as property uniformity in injection compression molding were investigated through experiment. Molding quality deviations among the cavities in multi-cavity mold were also studied. Transparent resins, PC and PS were used in this study. Compression gap, compression speed, compression force, and compression delay time for processing variables in injection compression molding were applied in experiment. Compression force, compression delay time, and compression gap significantly affected the optical property of product. The degree of influence of process variable on the product quality was different in different resins. This implies that the optimal operational conditions in injection compression molding existed for each resin according to flow property.
