Brain network analysis has attracted the interest of neuroscience researchers in studying brain diseases. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is especially proper for analyzing functional connectivity due to high temporal and spatial resolution. The application of graph theory for functional connectivity analysis has been studied widely, but research on network modeling for MEG still needs more. Temporal exponential random graph model (TERGM) considers temporal dependencies of networks. We performed the brain network analysis, including static/temporal network statistics, on two groups of epilepsy patients who removed the left (LT) or right (RT) part of the brain and healthy controls. We investigate network differences using Multiset canonical correlation analysis (MCCA) and TERGM between epilepsy patients and healthy controls (HC). The brain network of healthy controls had fewer temporal changes than patient groups. As a result of TERGM, on the simulation networks, LT and RT had less stable state than HC in the network connectivity structure. HC had a stable state of the brain network.
This study is to examine if emotional valance depending upon the result of baseball game(losing or winning) of subjects' favorite team yields hemispheric asymmetry measured by fMRI. Subjects were twelve fans of the Samsung Lions baseball team. The brain activations have been observed while they watched winning and losing scenes of their favorite team. As a results of the experiment, those who watched winning scenes showed the activation of the left and right cuneus, right inferior occipital gyrus, right inferior frontal gyrus, left amygdala, right parahippocampal gyrus, left uncus, left cingulate gyrus, left inferior temporal gyrus, right middle temporal gyrus, left declive, left culmen. On the contrary, those who watched losing scenes showed the activation in the right middle frontal gyrus, left anterior cingulate, left sub-gyral, left lentifomrm nucleus, left thalamus, left claustrum, left insula. The evidence of hemispheric asymmetry from this study has not been demonstrated and activation in amygdala observed during watching winning scene has not been observed in losing scene. Therefore more in-dept research is required about defeat stimuli induction.
This investigation has been carried out to clarify structural architecture of cerebral neuroendocrine systems in the fifth instar lanra of cabbage butterfly Pieris rapae. In order to examine the cerebral neurosecretorv cell systems the brain and retrocerebral neuroendocrine complex were histochemically stained with the paraldehvde fuchsin. The brain of the fifth instar laMa contains three kinds of neurosecretorv cells: medial, lateral and tritocerebral neurosecretorv cells. The axon bundles of medial and lateral neurosecretory cells form medial neurosecretory pathway(MNSP) and lateral neurosecretorv pathwav(LNSP) within the brain respectively. Especially, prior to exiting the brain, the axon bundles of medial neurosecretorH cells located in both left and right cefebral hemispheres decussate in cerebral medial region and project to contralateral retrocerebral neuroendocrine complexes. Outside the brain the axon bundles of medial and lateral neurosecretory cells form the nenri corporis cardiaca(NCC) I and II respectively. The NCC I and ll run together to the retrocerebral neuroendocrine complex, forming the large nenre bundles in both left md right sides. The anon bundles of tritocerebral neurosecretory cells which pass through the brain along the tritocerebral neurosecretory pathway (TNSP) form the Ncc III outids the train. some of the Ncc I and it terminate in the corpus cardiacum, while the others pass through the corpus cardiacum without termination. The nerve bundle which passes the corpus cardiacum forms the nenrus corforis allatum(NCA) I which runs between the corpus cardiacum and the corpus allatum. Theyt are finally innervated to the corpus allatum. The Ncc III Projects to the corpus cardiRcum. However, most of NCC III priss through the corpus cardiacum without branching and then run down for another organ.
This study was to find the effects of science activity activating spatial ability on spatial ability and creativity of the elementary school students. The survey was conducted with 30 second grade students in one class of "J" elementary school located in "C" City, Chungcheong-bukdo province. The students were taught with the program of science activity activating the spatial ability. According to the result, the science activity had significantly influence on the improvement of spatial ability of the elementary school students. It had also significantly influence on the improvement of spatial relationship ability. The science activity was also effective in the improvement of creativity, and especially in the subdomain of originality and sensitiveness. The students who has right brain preference showed much more improvement in the spatial ability compared to left brain preference students after science activity class. However there is no difference between the students who had the right brain preference and left brain preference in the creativity.

A 60-year-old woman, who had non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in left lower lobe underwent brain F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) for evaluation of cerebral metastasis. On follow-up FDG-PET/CT, only hypometaolic lesion was detected and progressed in right frontal lobe at 6 months and 10 months, later. Hypermetabolic metastasis was not detected even at last scan time of FDG-PET/CT. Brain MRI showed brain metastasis in right frontal lobe. As might be expected, the physician should take cerebral metastasis into consideration even though there is only hypometabolic change on subsequent FDG-PET/CT in patients with NSCLC.
Stenting is a useful alternative treatment modality in carotid artery stenosis patients who are too high-risk to undergo carotid endarterectomy (CEA). We report a case of contralateral cerebral infarction after stenting for extracranial carotid stenosis. A 78-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital with left-sided weakness. Based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain and conventional angiography, she was diagnosed with an acute watershed infarct of the right hemisphere secondary to severe carotid stenosis. Stenting was performed for treatment of the right carotid artery stenosis after a one-week cerebral angiogram was completed. Thirty minutes after stent placement, the patient exhibited a generalized seizure. Four hours later, brain MRI revealed left hemispheric cerebral infarction. Complex aorta-like arch elongation, tortuosity, calcification, and acute angulation at the origin of the supra-aortic arteries may increase the risk of procedural complications. In our case, we suggest that difficult carotid artery catheterization, with aggressive maneuvering during stenting, likely injured the tortuous, atherosclerotic aortic arch, and led to infarction of the contralateral cerebral hemisphere by thromboemboli formed on the wall of the atherosclerotic aorta.

This study has been made to research effect of neurofeedback training on the Brain Quotient and baduk strength whose EEC data were obtained both before and after the neurofeedback training from 15th June, to 15th September in 2007. Brain waves were measured on the frontal lobes of subjects (30 baduk players - the experimental group 15 under neuroffedback training and the control group 15 subjects) and analyzed by calculating eight brain quotients characterizing behaviors of EEG rhythms effectively. The results of the analysis show that the experimental group has the higher indexes Attention Quotient(left) p=.041, (right)p=.007, Stress Quotient (left) p=.020, and Stress Quotient (right) p=.019 show statistically significant difference between two groups. The research data show that the experimental group have the higher average than the control group in Baduk strength examination p=.021 after the neuroffedback training. As the brain waves are adjusted by timeseries linear analysis, the brain function quotients can reflect the functional states of the brain.
A retrospective clinical observation was made of 40 patients with postoperative cerebral dysfunction among 2634 patients who underwent open-heart operations in Severance Hospital. Yonsei University between 1962, the year the first successful open heart operation was done, and June 1985. Suspected causes of brain damage were reviewed. Brain CT findings were evaluated in 24 patients. There were 15 cerebral infarcts, 4 intracerebral bleedings, 3 ischemic brain damages, 1 infarction with intracerebral hemorrhage and 1 diffuse cortical atrophy from unknown cause. The most frequent site of cerebral infarction was the middle cerebral artery area with no predilection on the right of left.
Impaired sensorimotor function of the hand ipsilateral to a unilateral brain damage has been reported in a variety of motor task. however, it is still the controversial issue because of the difficulty of detection in clinical situation, patients' variability(time after onset, contralateral upper extremity severity, other cognitive functions including apraxia), and the performed various motor task. The purpose of this study is to determine the presence of ipsilateral motor deficit following unilateral brain damage in three different specific tasks(hand tapping, visual tracking and coin rotation) compared with healthy age-sex matched control group using the same hand and to investigate the lateralized motor control in each hemispheric function. Findings revealed that stroke patients with unilateral brain damage experienced difficulties with rapid-simple repetitive movement, visuomotor coordination, complex sequencing movement on ipsilateral side. Also, Comparison of the left-hemispheric stroke groups and the right-hemispheric stroke groups revealed that patients with a left-hemisphere damage tended to be more variable in performing all of the three tasks. These results show that stroke patient with left hemisphere damage has more ipsilateral motor deficit, and the left hemisphere contributes to the processing of motor control that necessary for the executing actions with ipsilateral hand.
This study has investigated psychological responses to various TV advertisements by using EEG(electroencephalogram). In particular, it was assumed that the brain wave would show different patterns depending upon the style of the advertisement that could be categorized into two such as 'information transfer' type and 'emotional reaction' type. Ten healthy males participated in the experiment. EEG signal was extracted from six lobes such as right and left frontal, right and left occipital, right and left temporal while the subjects were watching TV advertisements. Alpha and beta relative power spectrum, and beta/alpha parameter were calculated to compare two kinds of advertisement each other. Additionally, subjective questionnaire was used to examine subject's response by using adjective words and preference test. In result, significant differences were found in left frontal and right occipital lobe in terms of beta/alpha between two different advertisements. And, subjects showed different preference between two advertisements. It was shown that the current method could analyze the brain reaction to advertisement quantitatively, that presented the possibility of using it to marketing research.
