A Study on Developing Communication Courses to Enhance Undergraduates' Core Competence (대학생의 핵심역량 강화를 위한 커뮤니케이션 교과목 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Along with the development of advanced technology as well as the trend of becoming information society where all different cultures become convergent, communication competence is becoming one of the most important. Therefore, universities are making efforts to open and operate a related curriculum regarding communication competence as the most needed core competence in cultivating competitive men of ability. Accordingly, this study is going to suggest courses and detailed contents for developing communication courses to enhance undergraduates' core competence. The contents of communication subjects include the course outline, objectives, manner of lecturing, evaluation, weekly learning topics, learning objectives, and learning contents, and so on. This study will lay the ground for cultivating undergraduates' communication skills effectively and improving their core competence further to lead their college life soundly based on the understanding of communication. Also, this study will form a field of cultivating competent persons who can create social value through systematic education on communication competence which is the most emphasized as core competence that the members of universities or societies should be equipped with.

A Comparative Study of Elementary Science Curriculum between Korea and USA - Focusing on Earth and Space Domain of Third and Fourth Grades - (한국 2009 개정 초등 과학과 교육과정과 미국 초등 과학과 교육과정 비교분석 - 3~4학년군 지구와 우주영역을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this paper was to analyze the characteristics of Korean science curriculum and the differences with the other country. For this purpose, the USA was selected as the target country for comparison. The comparison focused on goals and contents in science curriculum document. The goals for science education in both countries were similar. But the goal setting level was different. Also, four objectives were suggested in Korean curriculum and nine objectives in the USA to achieve the general objective. Korean curriculum was composed of such grades system as 3rd & 4th grades, 5th & 6th grades and content area as 'materials and energy', 'life and the earth' in content system. And the USA composed in the such grade system as K, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Also the elements to be learned is suggested in the strand. And in the area of the earth and space in the Korean Curriculum, there are elements emphasized in the content area, cognitive area, context category and practical activities learning objective category. But the USA covered most of those elements evenly. Korean curriculum focused on learning of certain elements in certain grades, but the USA curriculum is to learn several elements evenly in every grade. It will be future topics of research to investigate the effect of curriculum with different emphasis of improving students' scientific knowledge and learning through further study.

Digital Competencies Required for Information Science Specialists at Saudi Universities

  • The objectives of this research were to identify the digital competencies required for information science specialists at Saudi universities and to examine whether there existed conspicuous differences in the standpoint of these specialists due to years of work experience with regard to the importance of these competencies. A descriptive analytical method was used to accomplish these objectives while extracting the required digital competency list and ascertaining its importance. The research sample comprised 24 experts in the field of information science from several universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The participants in the sample were asked to complete a questionnaire prepared to acquire the pertinent data in the period between January 5, 2021 and January 20, 2021. The results reveal that the digital competencies required for information science specialists at Saudi universities encompass general features such as the ability to use computer, Internet, Web2, Web3, and smartphone applications, digital learning resource development, data processing (big data) and its sharing via the Internet, system analysis, dealing with multiple electronic indexing applications and learning management systems and its features, using electronic bibliographic control tools, artificial intelligence tools, cybersecurity system maintenance, ability to comprehend and use different programming languages, simulation, and augmented reality applications, and knowledge and skills for 3D printing. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were observed between the mean ranks of scores of specialists with less than 10 years of practical experience and those with practical experience of 10 years or more with regard to conferring importance to digital competencies.

Development and Evaluation of a Vital Signs E-book for Undergraduate Student Nurses (간호학생을 위한 활력징후 전자교과서 개발과 평가)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a vital signs e-book for undergraduate student nurses and evaluate the content, system and student satisfaction. Method: This study was done in three stages, the development of a vital signs e-book, implementation and evaluation. The subjects were 73 undergraduate student nurses in Y university. Result: Thirty one learning objectives were used to create the contents. A set of 5 chapters and 18 subsections were defined after validation from nurse educators. The e-book is available at http://123.134.207.23/ebook/vitalsigns. Analysis of the questionnaires showed a mean score for content, system and students satisfaction of $3.17\pm73,\;3.11\pm79,\;and\;2.96\pm.74$ respectively out of a possible 4 points. Conclusion: Nurse educators should provide quality and effective web-based courses that meet undergraduate student nurses' learning needs and they should incorporate web-based learning into traditional teaching to meet the demands of nursing education.

Study for Mathematics App development for Senior (스마트 기기 활용 시니어 수학 자료 개발 연구)

  • This study is part of app development research based on user centered design which targets silver generation learners. The mathematical contents provided by Senior math application focus on Numeracy issues. In order to finalize the user interface and the mathematical contents which is for developing the mathematic application, teaching experiment was carried out through 9 senior learners. Also CIPP program evaluation model was used for monitoring the result of this teaching experiment. Factors such as 'educational objectives' 'requirement analysis' 'educational environment' 'curriculum' 'learning content' 'learning matter' 'interaction' 'program administration' 'supporting environment' 'satisfaction' 'study result' 'substantiality of learning' were checked and as a result the Senior Mathematic application was developed through these feedbacks.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a professional development system for elementary teachers who wish enhance mathematical teaching. The learning community on elementary mathematical teaching was composed of fourth grade teachers in a elementary school and an expert from education university. The activities was processed as establishing of objectives and contents of the learning community, discussing and seeing good lesson video, planning the lesson in collaboration with members, practicing the lesson, and reflecting on activities. To analyze these activities, record materials of meetings, lesson videos, member's writing were used. The results reported that the learning community lead teachers to search the method of professional development and showed itself as the effective media to enhance elementary mathematical teaching professionalism.

Korean and English Sentiment Analysis Using the Deep Learning

  • Social media has immense popularity among all services today. Data from social network services (SNSs) can be used for various objectives, such as text prediction or sentiment analysis. There is a great deal of Korean and English data on social media that can be used for sentiment analysis, but handling such huge amounts of unstructured data presents a difficult task. Machine learning is needed to handle such huge amounts of data. This research focuses on predicting Korean and English sentiment using deep forward neural network with a deep learning architecture and compares it with other methods, such as LDA MLP and GENSIM, using logistic regression. The research findings indicate an approximately 75% accuracy rate when predicting sentiments using DNN, with a latent Dirichelet allocation (LDA) prediction accuracy rate of approximately 81%, with the corpus being approximately 64% accurate between English and Korean.

Development and Evaluation of a Simulation-based Education Course for Nursing Students (간호학생을 위한 시뮬레이션 기반교육과정 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a simulation-based education course and to evaluate the results after the application for second year nursing students. Methods: This study was a non-equivalent control pre-post design. Based on the clinical situation scenarios about patients with COPD and MI, a total of two simulation-based learning modules was developed. Pretest and posttest was conducted to evaluate the difference in critical thinking disposition, problem solving, and clinical competence between two groups of 102 students for the experimental group, 2007 and 90 students for the control group, 2006. The experimental group conducted a clinical performance evaluation in the final test, on December 10, 2007. Results: In the experimental group, knowledge related to learning objectives was significantly increased and core intervention was performed almost exactly, but the same result was not observed in domains of analysis of laboratory test, and nursing education for patients. Self-evaluated clinical competence and problem solving level were significantly more improved in the experimental group than control group, but critical thinking disposition level wasn't. Conclusion: In conclusion, a simulation-based education course needs to utilize self-directed learning module like computer-based learning through web contents and MicroSim and video productions for improving nursing students' critical thinking.

An Analysis of Misconceptions about the Concepts of Cell- division, Reproduction and Fertilization in High School Biology Textbook I (고등학교 생물I의 세포분열, 생식, 수정개념에 대한 오인 분석)

  • The rectnt studies on the learning of the scientific concepts have suggested that most students have misconceptions related to the contents to be learned and that those misconceptions exert their influences on the subsequent learning of the content Those facts necessitate the identification of the misconceptions before the instructions and the preparation of the instructional materials based on those misconceptions identified. Several studies also revealed that such biological areas as cell division, reproduction and fertilization were ranked among the most difficult areas for high school students to learn. Therefore, this study had its triple objectives as follows: (1) Identification of misconceptions in such areas as cell division, reproduction and fertilization. (2) Investigation of the current high school biology textbook I's as the sources of those misconceptions. (3) Development of teaching materials based on the misconceptions identified and the problems in the textbooks analyzed. This study identified several misconceptions held by high school students of biological concepts related to the conceptual areas of life-continuity, and found the problems in learning of the high school biology textbooks. Based on the misconceptions and the problems, a teaching/learning model and its content material were developed at the final course of this study.

Effects of Emotional Competence, Learning Organization, and Nursing Organization Culture among Nursing Performance of Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 감성역량, 학습조직화 및 간호조직문화가 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of emotional competence, learning organization and nursing organizational culture on performance among clinical nurses. Methods : This study was conducted over a six-month period, with 170 nurses from general hospitals with 400 beds in three regions of Korea. Data were gathered from August 25th to September 10th, 2016, using a self-report questionnaire, and analyzed using the IBM SPSS 19.0 program. Results : The significant predictors of nursing performance were self-awareness (${\beta}=.32$), a master's degree or higher (${\beta}=.20$), relationship management (${\beta}=.26$), personal mastery(${\beta}=.23$), and 5~10 years in a clinical career (${\beta}=.16$). These variables explained 47.3% of the variance in nursing performance. Conclusions : To improve nursing performance, interventions that can enhance nurses' emotional competence and the need for program development to enhance their learning organization, as well as related variables, including academic credentials and clinical career, should be considered.
