  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the influences of learner-centered instruction on learners' achievement and reason ability. In order to accomplish them, the fraction unit and the polygonal unit in the fourth grade were implemented with teaching methods and materials suitable for learner-centered mathematics instruction. Some conclusions could be drawn from the results as follows: First, learner-centered mathematics instruction has a more positive effect on learning of learned knowledge and generating unlearned knowledge in the experimental period than teacher-centered instructions. Second, learner-centered instruction makes an influence of low learning ability on getting achievement positively. Third, as the experimental treatment is repeated, learner-centered instruction has a positive effect on students' reasoning ability. The reasoning ability of students showed a difference in the comparison between the experimental group and the comparative group, and within the experimental group, there was a positive effect of the extension of the positive reasoning ability. Fourth, it can be estimated that the development of students' reasoning ability interchangeably affected their generation test results.

  • The 7th national curriculum for environmental education in elementary and secondary school focuses on consideration of learner's ability, learner's activities, and learner's region of everyday life. The contents of environmental education are scattered subjects in elementary schools and an independent subject as 'Environment'in middle school and 'Environment and Ecology'in high school of the second school. With upgrading of schools, the aims and activities of environmental learning move up from value-centered, through activity-oriented and to cognition-centered.

  • The purpose of this paper was to analyze a teacher's questioning in the learner-centered mathematics lessons and investigate its effects on the construction of learner's knowledge. For this study, it is analysed that the teacher's questioning in the 3 observed learner-centered lessons concerning elementary division topic. The study results showed that the characteristics of the teacher's questioning were respecting of learner's informal mathematical thinking, open-ended questioning for divergent thinking, appropriate questioning at every group, and respecting classroom norm. Teacher's questioning affects the quality of learner's mathematical thinking and his or her attitude toward mathematics.

  • Recently, many areas of application such as statistics and industrial engineering are interested in the effective education of databases. In this article we design and implement a database learning system based on learner management techniques. The system supports a personalized/ team-centered learning environment, monitoring the learning attitude of learners, and a method for the assessment.

  • The 7th national curriculum shifts the fundamental spirit from teachercentered to learner-centered instruction. According to the shift, performance assessment has been emphasized in schools rather than using a variety of standardized tests. However, some researchers and educational policy-makers recently asserted that we need to return to the kind of standardized tests used in the past, giving up performance assessment, for it can actually not be implemented in classroom. This paper is written to refute their assertion. Performance assessment prove one's real worth when it is implemented in learner-centered instruction. Therefore, some assessment methods are discussed which can be used during learner-centered instruction.

  • In reality, learner-centered instruction's real worth has not been exposed when implementing instructions using elementary mathematics textbooks developed for the execution of learner-centered instruction, since the 7th national curriculum were revised in 1997. Therefore, some characteristics have been looked into appropriate for fulfill it. It would be expected that instructional materials are developed which is reflected on the characteristics in revising next national curriculum and developing elementary mathematics textbook.

  • As people get to aware that the traditional teacher-centered education can not develop individual students' diversity and creativity and cope with the rapidly changing future society, Korean government has emphasized the learner-centered education since the 7th curriculum. Under this background, we have analyzed the problems of mathematics education that teachers recognized and the features of mathematics textbooks that they developed within the framework of leaner-centered education on the basis of the resources developed from 'Student-centered mathematics textbook improvement teacher research group in 2015.' As a result of using the framework of 'Learner-centered psychological principles (APA, 1997)' for analysis, teachers pointed out the problems related to the principles of Motivational and emotional influences on learning, Individual differences in learning, Developmental influences on learning, Nature of the learning process, and Construction of knowledge, in order. The features of textbook teachers developed reflected the principles of Nature of the learning process, Construction of knowledge, and Motivational and emotional influences on learning, in order. Finally, as we have compared teachers' recognition of the problems with the features of the textbooks developed, most of the problems teachers recognized are reflected in the textbooks; however, the Cognitive and metacognitive factor takes higher possession on the textbooks compared with the problems being recognized, and the Motivational and affective factor takes lower possession on the textbooks compared with the problems being recognized. Accordingly, we have been able to search for the solution to realize the learner-centered education through math textbooks.

  • Objective: Using data from the Panel Study on Korean Children, this study investigated the influence of teacher'thoughts about the transition from ECEC to primary school in relation to learner-centered teaching methods and children's school adjustment. Methods: We analyzed the longitudinal data of 658 seven-year-olds from the 8th and 9th waves of the panel study of Korean children collected by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education in 2015 and 2016. The main analysis method was Structural Equation Modeling(SEM). Results: First, theachers' thoughts about the transition from ECEC to primary school was noteworthy. Second, the more concern a theacher' had about transition, the higher their learner-centered teaching method. Third, teacher' concern about transition influenced children's school adjustment. Fourth, a teacher's learner-centered teaching method mediated concern about children's transition and school adjustment in the first year and the second year. Conclusion/Implications: According to the results of this study, 1st grade teachers' concern about the transition from ECEC to primary school has been found to be predictors of children's school adjustment.

  • This study is intend to define learning driving force for learner-centered education and to derive it's components(IDEA : degree of Interest, Dynamics of learning process, degree of self-Effectiveness, expectation level of Academic achievement). To validate the concept of driving force, we analyzed the instructional design techniques, operating procedures, result reports, professor's comments of flipped learning courses which were conducted systematically in K-university during last 4years. As a result, I suggest the directives and guidances required for effective flipped learning based on driving force.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze STEAM lessons focused on the learner's learning. This study was conducted on 4th-graders in Y city, Kyung-gi province. The lessons were based on a joint teaching plan for students through the teacher learning community (TLC) with three teachers from the same school. Each of the three classes that conducted the class was selected and analyzed as the main center of observation by three students. The conclusions from this study are as follows: First, we identified that different levels of learners are learning in STEAM lessons through a learner-centered class analysis. Some students arrived on their own by taking the initiative in class, others by consulting with a group of friends, and others needed active teacher guidance to learn. Second, Depending on the level and characteristics of the students, some learning criteria were not reached. Some students need guidance at a glance level, and others need individually instructed or guided activities. Teachers need to keep an eye out for students and give them an appropriate level of guidance during class. In STEAM lessons, it appears that students of different levels and characteristics can immerse themselves in their own way, as well as the clear guidance of activity for their students.
