  • In order to implement smart cities that will become living spaces in the fourth industrial revolution era, detailed privacy information such as residents' living information, buildings and facilities information must be collected and processed in real time. While city functions and convenience for individuals are being facilitated, threats to personal information exposure and leakage are also likely to increase at the same time. Therefore, the design concept for personal information protection should be considered and accordingly reflected from the stages of smart city design, technology development and operation planning of intelligent information (AI) facilities. The results of the analysis show that for activation of smart cities and operation of data-driven cities, the concept of Privacy by Design (PbD) has already been introduced in the institutional, industrial and technological aspects, particularly in the cases of European countries and the US. In order to strengthen the local and global competitiveness of smart cities and the country, Korea also needs to actively deploy PbD as a strategy to secure a data-driven economy, which is the core strategy for smart cities. Therefore, the study suggests policy implications focused on approaches to legislative improvement and technology development support, which reflect the basic properties of PbD as defined in the study.

  • Joint financial network of Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute, which is an essential facility with a natural monopoly, maintained its closedness as monopoly/public utility model, but it has evolved in the form of open banking in order to obtain domestic fintech competitiveness in the rapidly changing digital financial ecosystem such as the acceleration of Big Blur. In accordance with digital transformation strategy of financial institutions, various ICT companies are actively participating in the financial industries, which has been exclusive to banks, through the link technology called Open API. For this reason, there has been a significant change in the financial service supply chain in which ICT companies participate as users. The level of security in the financial service supply chain is determined based on the weakest part of the individual components according to the law of minimum. In addition, there is a perceived risk of personal information and financial information leakage among the main factors that affect users' intention to accept services, and appropriate protective measures against perceived security risks can be a catalyst, which increases the acceptance of open banking. Therefore, this is a study on factors affecting the introduction of open banking to achieve financial innovation by developing an open banking security control model for financial institutions, as a protective measures to user organizations, from the perspectives of cyber financial security and customer information protection, respectively, and surveying financial security experts. It is expected, from this study, that effective information protection measures will be derived to protect the rights and interests of financial customers and will help promote open banking.

  • In recent years, biometric authentication has been used for various applications. Since biometric features are unchangeable and cannot be revoked unlike other personal information, there is increasing concern about leakage of biometric information. Recently, Jin et al. proposed a new cancelable biometric scheme, called "Index-of-Max" (IoM) to protect fingerprint template. The authors presented two realizations, namely, Gaussian random projection-based and uniformly random permutation-based hashing schemes. They also showed that their schemes can provide high accuracy, guarantee the security against recently presented privacy attacks, and satisfy some criteria of cancelable biometrics. However, the authors did not provide experimental results for other biometric features (e.g. finger-vein, iris). In this paper, we present the results of applying Jin et al.'s scheme to iris data. To do this, we propose a new method for processing iris data into a suitable form applicable to the Jin et al.'s scheme. Our experimental results show that it can guarantee favorable accuracy performance compared to the previous schemes. We also show that our scheme satisfies cancelable biometrics criteria and robustness to security and privacy attacks demonstrated in the Jin et al.'s work.

  • The use of smart home appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices is growing, enabling new interactions and automation in the home. This technology relies heavily on mobile services which leaves it vulnerable to the increasing threat of hacking, identity theft, information leakage, serious infringement of personal privacy, abnormal access, and erroneous operation. Confirming or proving such security breaches have occurred is also currently insufficient. Furthermore, due to the restricted nature of IoT devices, such as their specifications and operating environments, it is difficult to provide the same level of internet security as personal computers. Therefore, to increase the security on smart home IoT devices, attention is needed on (1) preventing hacking and user authority theft; (2) disabling abnormal manipulation; and (3) strengthening audit records for device operation. In response to this, we present a plan to build a cloud security authentication platform which features security authentication management functionality between mobile terminals and IoT devices.

  • Since existing server-based authentications use vulnerable password-based authentication, illegal leak of personal data occurs frequently. Since this can cause illegal ID compromise, alternative authentications have been studied. Recently token-based authentications like OAuth 2.0 or JWT have been used in web sites, however, they have a weakness that if a hacker steals JWT token in the middle, they can obtain plain authentication data from the token, So we suggest a new authentication method using the verification token of authentic code to encrypt authentication data with effective time. The verification is to compare an authentication code from decryption of the verification-token with its own code. Its crypto-method is based on do XOR with ECDH session key, which is so fast and efficient without overhead of key agreement. Our method is outstanding in preventing the personal data leakage.

  • Recently, various social network services have been grown. Among them, personal relationships based social network services such as Facebook and Twitter make a remarkable growth of industry. In such services, users' profiles are very important for establishing the relationship between two users. However some information in a user's profile causes the leakage of the user's privacy, and thus we have to deal with the information in the profile. Especially, we have to treat contact information, such as the phone number and the e-mail address, very carefully since an adversary can use the information to violate the user's privacy in real life. In this paper, we propose two profile management systems that can enhance the privacy of users in social network services. We compare our systems with existing profile management techniques in well-known social network services such as Facebook and Twitter, and show that our systems provide enhanced privacy.

  • Mobile Crowdsourcing (MCS) has become an emerging paradigm evolved from crowdsourcing by employing advanced features of mobile devices such as smartphones to perform more complicated, especially spatial tasks. One of the key procedures in MCS is to collect answers from mobile users (workers), which may face several security issues. First, authentication is required to ensure that answers are from authorized workers. In addition, MCS tasks are usually location-dependent, so the collected answers could disclose workers' location privacy, which may discourage workers to participate in the tasks. Finally, the overhead occurred by authentication and privacy protection should be minimized since mobile devices are resource-constrained. Considering all the above concerns, in this paper, we propose a lightweight and privacy-preserving answer collection scheme for MCS. In the proposed scheme, we achieve anonymous authentication based on traceable ring signature, which provides authentication, anonymity, as well as traceability by enabling malicious workers tracing. In order to balance user location privacy and data availability, we propose a new concept named current location privacy, which means the location of the worker cannot be disclosed to anyone until a specified time. Since the leakage of current location will seriously threaten workers' personal safety, causing such as absence or presence disclosure attacks, it is necessary to pay attention to the current location privacy of workers in MCS. We encrypt the collected answers based on timed-release encryption, ensuring the secure transmission and high availability of data, as well as preserving the current location privacy of workers. Finally, we analyze the security and performance of the proposed scheme. The experimental results show that the computation costs of a worker depend on the number of ring signature members, which indicates the flexibility for a worker to choose an appropriate size of the group under considerations of privacy and efficiency.

  • Advances in information technology, communication and network technology are radically facilitating digital convergences as the integration of human, equipment, and space in the current industry 4.0 era. In industry 4.0 environment, the vast amount of information with networked computing technology can be simultaneously accessible even in limited physical space. Two main benefit points out of these information are the convenience and efficiency in their online transactions either buying things online or selling online. Even though there exist so many benefits that information technology can create for the people doing business over the internet there is a critical problem to be answered. In spite of many such advantages, however, online transactions have many dysfunctions such as personal information leakage, account hacking, and cybercrime. Without preparing the appropriate protection methods or schema people reluctantly use the transaction or would find some other partners with enhanced information security environment. In this paper we suggested a novel selection criteria that can be used to evaluate the reliable means of authentication against the expected risks under on-going IoT based environment. Our selection criteria consists of 4 steps. The first step is services and risk identification step. The second step is evaluation of risk occurrence step. The third step includes the evaluation of the extent of damage. And the final step is the assessment of the level of risk. With the help of the above 4 step-approach people can systematically identify potential risks hiding in the online transactions and effectively avoid by taking appropriate counter actions.

  • Recently, the leakage of personal information and privacy piracy increase. The victimized case of the malicious object rapidlies increase. Most of users use the windows operating system. Recently, the Windows 7 operating system was announced. Therefore, we need to study for the intrusion response technique at the next generation operate system circumstances. The accident response technique developed till now was mostly implemented around the Windows XP or the Windows Vista. However, a new vulnerability problem will be happen in the breach process of reaction as the Windows 7 operating system is announced. In the windows operating system, the system incident event needs to be efficiently analyzed. For this, the event information generated in a system needs to be visually analyzed around the time information or the security threat weight information. Therefore, in this research, we analyzed visually about the system event information generated in the Windows 7 operating system. And the system analyzing the system incident through the visual event information analysis process was designed and implemented. In case of using the system developed in this study the more efficient accident analysis is expected to be possible.

  • Data mining is a technique to get the useful information that can be utilized for marketing and pattern analysis by processing the data that we have. However, when we use this technique, data provider's personal data can be leaked by accident. To protect these data from leakage, there were several techniques have been studied to preserve privacy. Vertically partitioned data is a state called that the data is separately provided to various number of user. On these vertically partitioned data, there was some methods developed to distinguishing kth element and (k+1) th element by using score. However, in previous method, we can only use on two-party case, so in this paper, we propose the extended technique by using paillier cryptosystem which can use on multi-party case.
