A Hybrid Scheme of the Transport Error Control for SVC Video Streaming (SVC 비디오 스트리밍을 위한 복합형 전송 오류 제어 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a practical hybrid transport error control scheme to provide SVC video streaming service over error-prone IP networks. Many error control mechanisms for various video coding standards have been proposed in the literature. However, there is little research result which can be practically applicable to the multilayered coding structure of SVC(the scalable extension of H.264/AVC). We present a new hybrid transport error control scheme that efficiently combines layered Forward Error Correction(FEC) and Automatic Repeat Request(ARQ) for better packet-loss resilience. In the proposed hybrid error control, we adopt ACK-based ARQ instead of NACK-based ARQ to maximize throughput which is the amount of effective data packets delivered over a physical link per time unit. In order to prove the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid error control scheme, we adopt NIST-Net network emulator which is a general-purpose tool for emulating performance dynamics in IP networks. It is shown by simulations over the NIST-Net that the proposed hybrid error control scheme shows improved packet-loss resilience even with much less number of overhead packets compared to various conventional error control schemes.

Arsenic removal from artificial arsenic water using CaAl-monosulfate and CaAl-ettringite (CaAl-monosulfate와 CaAl-ettringite를 이용한 인공비소폐수의 비소 제거 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to remove arsenate from artificially contaminated wastewater using CaAl-ettringite and CaAl-monosulfate which were synthesized in laboratory. The study was carried on the basis of solidification/stabilization of waste using cement. Monosulfate and ettringite are constituents of cement paste. The CaAl-ettringite has a chemical formula of $Ca_6Al_2O_6(SO_4)_3{\cdot}32H_2O$ and has a needle like morphology. Whereas CaAl-monosulfate $Ca_4Al_2O_6(SO_4){\cdot}12H_2O$ has layered double hydroxide structure (LDH) in which the mainlayer consists of Ca and Al and S as interlayer. Ettringite and monosulfate were synthesized by reaction of tricalcium aluminate and gypsum and hydrating this mixture at elevated temperature. The synthesized mineral were characterized by PXRD and FESEM to ensure purity. It was found that concentrations of As(V) in contaminated water were reduced from initial concentration of 1.335 mmol/L to 0.054 mmol/L and 0.300 mmol/L by CaAl-monosulfate and CaAl-ettringite respectively. The post experimental results of PXRD and FESEM analysis indicate that arsenate removal was by ion exchange.

Growth of La0.35Pr0.35Ca0.3MnO3/LaAlO3 Thin Film using Laser Molecular-Beam Epitaxy and its Magnetic Properties (Laser Molecular-Beam Epitaxy를 이용한 La0.35Pr0.35Ca0.3MnO3/LaAlO3 초격자 박막의 합성과 그 자기적 특성의 연구)

  • We successfully grew $La_{0.35}Pr_{0.35}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$(LPCMO)/$LaAlO_3$(LAO) thin film using Laser Molecular-Beam Epitaxy and studied post-growth annealing effects ($750^{\circ}C$, 5 h) on its crystal structural and magnetic properties. Whereas the single-layered LPCMO and LPCMO/STO superlattice thin films show rough surface before and after the post-growth annealing, LPCMO/LAO superlattice shows a relatively very flat surface even after the post-growth annealing. The enhancement of ferromagnetism of LPCMO/LAO superlattice after the post-growth annealing was remarkable compared to the single-layered LPCMO thin film. The coercive and saturation magnetic field of the single-layed LPCMO thin film were decreased after the post-annealing. However, for LPCMO/LAO superlattice, a same coercive and increased saturation magnetic field were exhibited after post-growth annealing. We suggest that these peculiar observations are originate from the super-structure of LPCMO and LAO.

Dependence of Ferroelectric Film Formation Method on Electrical Characteristics in Solution-processed Ferroelectric Field Effect Transistor (강유전체 박막 형성방법에 따른 용액 공정 기반 강유전체 전계효과 트랜지스터의 전기적 특성 의존성)

  • In manufacturing of solution-processed organic electronic devices, a spin coating method is frequently used, but which has a big problem. Solvent in a solution has a decisive effect such as physical and chemical damage for successive solution-based film deposition. Such a severe damage by solvent restricts for fabricating building blocks of multi-layered films from solutions. In this work, it will be shown that a proper combination of well-known solvents gives a chance to fabricate multi-layered film, also this new method was applied to make organic field effect transistor. Two types of bottom gate, bottom contact transistors were fabricated, one of which is fabricated by conventional single spin coating method, the other fabricated by double spin coating method. Compared with the electrical characteristics in a single spin coated transistor, the leakage current between source and gate electrode was decreased, ON state current was increased, and the extracted saturation mobility was multiplied more than 2.7 time for double spin coated transistors. It is suggested that the multiple coated gate dielectric structure is more desirable for high performance organic ferroelectric field effect transistors.

Graphene Oxide/Polyimide Nanocomposites for Gas Barrier Applications (산화그래핀이 함유된 폴리이미드 나노복합막의 기체차단성 평가 및 활용)

  • Polymeric films for gas barrier applications such as food packaging and electronic devices have attracted great interest due to their cheap, light and easy processability among gas barrier materials. Especially in electronic devices, extremely low gas permeance is necessary for maintaining the device performance. However, current polymeric barrier films still suffer from relatively high gas permeance than other materials. Therefore, there have been strong needs to enhance the gas barrier performance of polymeric barrier films while keep their own advantages. Recently, graphene is highlighted as a 2D-layered material for gas barrier applications. However, owing to the poor workability and difficulty to produce in engineering scale, graphene oxide (GO) is on the rise. GO consists of oxygen-containing functional groups on surface with intrinsic 2D-layered structure and high aspect ratio, and it can be well-dispersed in aqueous polar solvents like water, resulting in scalable mass production. Here, we prepared GO incorporated polyimide (PI) nanocomposites. PI is widely used barrier polymer with high mechanical strength and thermal and chemical stability. We demonstrated that PI/GO nanocomposites could perform as a gas barrier. Furthermore, surfactants (Triton X-100 (TX) and Sodium deoxycholate (SDC)) are introduced to enhance the gas barrier performance by improving the degree of dispersion of GO in PI matrix. As a result, TX enhanced the gas barrier performance of PI/GO nanocomposites which is similar to predicted value. This finding will provide new insight to polymer nanocomposites for gas barrier applications.

Sorption of aqueous uranium(VI) ion onto a cation-exchangeable K-birnessite colloid (양이온 교환능을 갖는 K-Birnessite 콜로이드에 의한 수용성 우라늄(VI) 이온의 흡착 연구)

  • This paper describes the sorption behaviors of aqueous uranium ions on the K-birnessite. K-birnessite was synthesized by adding a concentrated HCl to an aqueous solution of $KMnO_4$. Physicochemical characteristics of the K-birnessite, such as structure, specific surface area and surface charge, were investigated. K-birnessite is a layered material and the $K^+$ ions exist in the interlayer of layered K-birnessite. BET specific surface area of the K-birnessite was 38.30 m2/g. The surface charge of K-birnessite was $-1.65\;C/m^2$ at pH 5.00 and ionic strength of 0.010 M $NaClO_4$, at which the sorption experiments of uranium ions were carried out. Uranium ions were incorporated into the interlayer of the K-birnessite by cation-exchange reaction with $K^+$ ions, and the distribution coefficient is quite similar to those of common ion-exchange materials. The results might be applicable in the retardation of migration of radioactive materials from the underground disposal site of high-level radioactive waste.

Development of a Model for Predicting Modulus on Asphalt Pavements Using FWD Deflection Basins (FWD 처짐곡선을 이용한 아스팔트 포장구조체의 탄성계수 추정 모형 개발)

  • A development of regression model for asphalt concrete pavements using Falling Weight Deflectometer deflections is presented in this paper. A backcalculation program based on layered elastic theory was used to generate the synthetic modulus database, which was used to generate 95% confidence intervals of modulus in each layer. Using deflection basins of FWD data used in developing this procedure were collected from Pavement Management System in flexible pavements. Assumptions of back-calculation are that one is 3 layered flexible pavement structure and another is depth to bedrock is finite. It is found that difference of between 95% confidence intervals and modulus ranges of other papers does not exist. So, the data of 95% confidence intervals in each layer was used to develop multiple regression models. Multiple regression equations of each layer were established by SPSS, package of Statics analysis. These models were proved by regression diagnostics, which include case analysis, multi-collinearity analysis, influence diagnostics and analysis of variance. And these models have higher degree of coefficient of determination than 0.75. So this models were applied to predict modulus of domestic asphalt concrete pavement at FWD field test.

THE STUDY OF EGF EXPRESSION BETWEEN HUMAN PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA AND ADENOID CYSTIC CARCINOMA (다형성 선종과 선양낭성 암종에서 상피성장인자 발현에 관한 연구)

  • Epidermal growth factor is a single-chain polypeptide consisting of 53 amino acids and has a potent mitogenic activity that stimulates proliferation of various normal and neoplastic cells through the interaction with its specific receptor(epidermal growth factor receptor, EGFR). Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common salivary benign tumor and histologically, it contains the epithelial cell, the myo-epithelial cell and mesenchymal ingredient, which is various aspect. Adenoid cystic carcinoma is an infiltrative malignant salivary gland tumor with three different histological patterns: cribriform, tubular or solid. The tumor cell structure composed of modified myoepithelial cell, and basaloid cell. In this study, we used an immunohistochemical technique to investigate the expression of EGF in 6 specimens of adenoid cystic carcinoma and 10 specimens of pleomorphic adenoma taken from patients treated at Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dankook University. The results were as follows. 1. In pleomorphic adenoma, ductal structure and scattered spindle cells in hyalinized stroma, disclosing myxoid stroma and hyalin, cartilage formation were observed. Immunohistologically, weak EGF expression in ductal structure and negative in stromal area were observed. 2. Cribriform type of adenoid cystic carcinoma showed numerous pseudocyst surrounded by dark small neoplastic cells in the back-ground of fibrous connective tissue and moderate EGF expression of dark cells adjacent to pseudo lumen in cribriform pattern, while weak expression in other most cells. 3. Tubular type of adenoid cystic carcinoma showed numerous ductal pattern surrounded by two layered neoplastic cells in the back-ground of fibrous connective tissue and strong EGF expression in luminal cells of ductal structure, while weak expression in outer cells. From the results obtained, we suggest that EGF is mainly biosynthesized in cells forming duct like structures of tubulo-ductal type or cribriform adenoid cystic carcinoma and it may play a role, as a cell mitogen in adenoid cystic carcinoma growth.

An Analysis on the Expert Opinions of Future City Scenarios (미래도시 전망 분석)

  • This study aims to develop urban scenarios for future cities and validate the future city scenarios using a Delphi method. The scenarios of future city was derived from urban structure, land use, transportation, and urban infrastructure and development using big data analysis, environmental scanning techniques, and literature review. The Delphi survey interviewed 24 erudite scholars and experts across 6 nations including Korea, USA, UK, Japan, China, Australia and India. The Delphi survey structure was designed to test future city scenarios, verified by the 5-point Likert scale. The survey also asked the timing of each scenario likely happens by the three terms of near-future, mid-future and far-future. Results of the Delphi survey reveal the following points. Firstly, for the future urban structure it is anticipated that urban concentration continues and higher density living in global mega cities near future. In the mid-future small and medium size cities may decrease. Secondly, the land use pattern in the near-future is expected of increasing space sharing and mixed or layered vertical land-use. In addition underground space is likely to be extended in the mid-future. Thirdly, in the near-future, transport and infrastructure was expected to show ICT embedded integration platform and public and private smart transport. Finally, the result of Delphi survey shows that TOD (Transit Oriented Development) becomes a development norm and more emphasis on energy and environment fields.

Crystal Structure and Electrochemical Performance of LiNi1-xCoxO2 (x=0.0~1.0) According to Co Substitution (Co 치환량에 따른 LiNi1-xCoxO2 (x=0.0~1.0)의 결정구조 및 전기화학 특성)

  • [ $LiNi_{1-x}Co_xO_2\;(x=0.0\~1.0)$ ] powders were synthesized by citrate method, and their crystal structures and electrochemical performance as the cathode material in Li secondary batteries were analyzed. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that all the samples carry a single phase regardless of the Co substitution. The results of Rietveld refinement suggested that the crystal structure of solid solutions varies according to the Co substitution. When the Co substitution is low $(x=0.3\~0.5)$, the solid solutions carry a cubic-like structure with a relatively small value in the ratio of lattice parameters (c/a). The solid solutions made with a higher Co substitution (x=0.7), however, exhibit a layered structure with a higher c/a ratio. This difference was also observed in the electrochemical voltage spectroscopy (EVS) profiles, whereby the Co component in scarcely substituted materials shows a charging reaction at $3.7V\;(vs.\;Li/Li^+)$, but in the heavily substituted ones at 3.92V.
