  • Marine Casualty Forecasting System (MCFS) is to broadcast the prediction number and risk level of marine casualties as like daily weather forecasting. The MCFS consists of marine casualty numerical D/B, prediction model and, three-dimensional statistics visualization system. The implementation procedure for the numerical D/B is described in the paper. The data relating to a total of 724 ship casualties in the west-southern sea area (latitude 33$^{\circ}$N∼35$^{\circ}$ and longitude 124$^{\circ}$E∼127$^{\circ}$E) of Korean peninsula for 11 years (1999∼2000) have been compiled. The analysis method of numerical D/B is proposed and discussed its usability.

  • In order to predict the sailing performance of a LNGC during actual operation, it is necessary to consider not only the information about resistance, maneuverability etc. but also the information such as sea route and sailing scenario etc., comprehensively. In this paper, we propose a new approach to conduct the sailing simulation of a LNGC without full scale measurement data. Latitude, longitude, sea route, speed over ground, time in UTC obtained from AIS data are substituted for the measured data. By combining the model test results, design information, and AIS data, prediction of sailing performance is conducted from the coast of southern Taiwan to the coast of Madagascar. The simulation is verified by comparing the calculated time histories of RPM and power with those of measured RPM and power.

SMALL $H_3^+$ EMISSION PATCHES IN THE VICINITY OF JUPITER'S AURORAL REGIONS

  • We examined a total of 166 images of $3.5{\mu}m\;H_3^+$ emission in the auroral regions of Jupiter observed with the Protocam on IRTF in 1991 and 1992, and found that 30 images contain a clearly isolated small emission patch in the vicinity of the northern auroral regions. Two different time sequences of the images show the small patches at the dusk limb in the range of System III longitudes from $270^{\circ}\;through\;0^{\circ}\;to\;90^{circ}$. The small patches in one sequence of the images, which were taken at 10 phase between $240^{\circ}\;and\;260^{\circ}$, may be related to the 10 flux tube, similarly suggested by Connerney et al. (1993). However, the small patches in the other sequence are separated from Io as much as $80^{\circ}$ in longitude. The positions of the small patches in both sequences are deviated equatorward from the 10 footprint oval by $5^{\circ}-8^{\circ}$ latitude in the longitudinal range of $270^{\circ}-360^{\circ}$. A significant modification is required in current Jovian magnetic field models near the Jupiter's surface if the small patches are produced at the foot of the 10 flux tube.

  • Mt. Seokseong is located $37^{\circ}15'15'{\sim}37^{\circ}17'00'N$ in latitude at $127^{\circ}09'30'{\sim}127^{\circ}11'00'E$ in longitude in Yongin-si. As the result of cluster analysis, B site has 170 taxa of vascular plants, so it is the most abundant site in this area. And C site has 140 taxa of that, it is secondly abundant. But it has the highest similarity index (53.7%) between A site and B site. To construct natural resort for residents, it needed make thorned park just as hiking course, woods bathing site, aquatic place, pebble path, and natural garden path. And to protect ecological isolation of this area ecobridges must be constructed at Myeokjogogae and at Yongin Medical Hospital.

  • Terra MODIS is one of the few space-borne sensors currently capable of acquiring radiometric data over the range of view angles. Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo, has been receiving Terra MODIS data at Tokyo since May 2001 and Asian Institute of Technology at Bangkok since May 2001. They can cover whole East Asia and is expected to monitor environmental changes regularly such as deforestation, forest fires, floods and typhoon. Over eight hundred scenes have been archived in the storage system and they occupy 2 TB of disk space so far. In this study, MODIS data processing system on WWW is developed including following functions: spectral subset (250m, 500m, 1000m channels), radiometric correction to radiance, spatial subset of geocoded data as a rectangular area with latitude-longitude grid system in HDF format, generation of a quick look file in JPEG format. Users will be notified just after all the process have finished via e-mail. Using this system enables us to process MODIS data on WWW with a few input parameters and download the processed data by FTP access. An easy to use interface is expected to promote the use of MODIS data. This system is available via the Internet on the following URL from September 1 2002, "http : //webmodis.iis.u-tokyo.ac.jp/".

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm based on particle filter to determine the state of human movement. We calculate speed from consecutive positioning data with time, latitude and longitude. The speed values are averaged with previous speed values and thus act as basis for particle filter. We use the fact that human speed distribution follows exponential distribution approximately. An algorithm based on particle filter has been developed and utilized. Human movement state are probabilistically described in this research, and the probability is to determine whether a person is in moving state or in stable state. The experimental results are provided in various ways.

  • In solar power system, the height and azimuth of the sun are important parameters which control generated power magnitude. The way that controls the daily generation magnitude according to latitude and longitude and uses two axles is often used in the existing sunlight racing system now. In this two-axle sunlight track control system the self-load is concentrated on one FRAME. It is influenced of the regular load, snow load and the wind load, etc. It is difficult to set up the system in the building already built up. This research is a development about the small-scale economy track device of independent load-dispersing type solar generation system. The position track algorithm is through calculating the trail of height and azimuthal of the sun calculation to follow the sun.

  • The simple method of the geometric reconstruction of satellite linear pushbroom images is investigated. The model of the sensor used is based on the SPOT model that is developed by Kraiky. The satellite trajectory is a Keplerian trajectory in the approximation. Four orbital parameters, longitude of the ascending $node(\omega),$ inclination of the orbit plan(I), latitude argument of the satellite(W) and distance between earth center and satellite, are used for the camera modeling. We suppose that four orbital parameters and satellite attitude angles are exactly acquired. Then, in order to refine model, the given attitude angles and orbital parameters is not changed, but time-independent four parameters associated with LOS(Line Of Sight) vector is updated. A pair of SPOT-5 images has been used for validation of proposed method. Two GCPs acquired by GPS survey is used to controlling the LOS vector. The results are that the RMSE of 16 checking points are about 4.5m. Because the ground resolution of SPOT-5 is 2.5m, the result obtained in this study has a good accuracy. It demonstrates that the sensor model developed by this study can be used to reconstruct the geometry of satellite image taken by pushbroom camera.

A fine grid two-dimensional $M_2$ tidal model of the East China Sea (동지나해의 세격자 2차원 $M_2$조석모형)

  • The previous two-dimensional non-linear tidal model of the East China Sea(Choi, 1980) has been further refined to resolve the flow over the ocntinental shelf in more detail. The mesh resolution of the present finite-difference grid system used is 4 minutes latitude by 5 minutes longitude over the entire shelf. The developed fine grid two-dimensional model was utilized to reproduce the $M_2$ tide and $M_4$ tide for the East China Sea contnental shelf. There is general agreement between the model results and the current observation made in the Eastern Yellow Sea, which supports the calculated tidal regime over the shelf. Some preliminary results on maximum bottom stress and tidally-induced residual current were also examined and discussed.
