This study was conducted to investigate the combination of proper culture medium for differentiation culture of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum KITAMURA. The combinations of culture medium were consisted with an inorganic materials such as vermiculite, perlite, saprolite, sand and upland top soil, and with an organic materials such as peat-moss, leaf mold and compost. For the plant growth characteristics, the plant height, number of tiller, root length and root weight in the combination of leaf mold was relatively great as compared to the treatment with peat-moss and compost. It was considered that humus might be contributed to improve the physical properties of soil as well as the sequential nutrient supply. For the combination of peat-moss, the plant growth was not good because of not sufficient nutrient supply, Also, the plant growth in the treatment of compost was so bad because of enhancement of culture medium pH 8.9 and increasement of phosphorous content.

This study investigated the effect of vegetation mat on plant growth and salt reduction in the soil treated with high concentration deicing salt. In order to measure soil chemical characteristics and plant growth, three native groundcover plants (Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum, Dendranthema boreale, and Kalimeris yomena) were grown in each of the three plastic containers (50.0 cm width × 35.0 cm length × 8.5 cm deep) with a high concentration treatment of calcium chloride deicing salt. There were two treatments: control, and BVM that combines B (blanket) and VM (vegetation mat). 1,600 g of soil was placed on the top of the drainage layer with 290 g of perlite, 100 seeds each of the three native plants with three repetitions were sowed, and 10 g/L of calcium chloride deicing salt was added in the treatment. As a result of the chemical properties of soil, soil in control treatment was acidic and soil electrical conductivity in BVM was the lowest. Also, exchangeable cations (K+, Ca2+, Na+, and Mg2+) in soil and all the three plants were significantly decreased in the BVM treatment. Meanwhile, the germination rate of Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum was the highest under high concentration deicing salt in compared to the two plants. Overall, three native groundcover plant growth was higher in the BVM than control treatment significantly. These results suggest that the treatment of blanket vegetation mat has a positive effect on soil and plant growth in soil damaged by deicing salt.

The objective of this study was to investigate the anti-obesity effects of adding Momordica charantia (MC) and Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum (CZ) extracts to drinking water on obesity-induced mice. A total of 84 eight-week-old C57BL/6N male mice with an initial body weight (BW) of 28.11 ± 1.39 g were used in this study. All treatments were fed a high-fat diet for d 28. Mice were randomly divided into seven drinking treatments (six replicate each treatment) based on the initial BW. Treatments are as follows: control (CON), normal tap water, MC 1, CON with 1% MC aqueous extract, MC 2, CON with 2% MC aqueous extract, CZ 1, CON with 1% CZ aqueous extract, CZ 2, CON with CZ aqueous extract (2%), MCZ 1, CON with 1% MC aqueous extract and 1% CZ aqueous extract, MCZ 2, CON with 2% MC aqueous extract and 2% CZ aqueous extract. During the entire period, the CZ 1, MCZ 1, and MCZ 2 significantly decreased (p < 0.05) gain to feed than CON. The CON significantly higher (p < 0.05) water intake than other treatments on d 0 to 14. The MCZ 1 significantly decreased (p < 0.05) relative (ratio of absolute organ weight to BW) organ weights, including retroperitoneal white adipose tissue (RWAT) weight and inguinal white adipose tissue (IWAT) weight, compared to CON. In conclusion, our study suggests that there was no significant difference in the anti-obesity effects between MC and CZ, and MCZ 1 has synergistic effects by regulating adipose tissue.

The purpose of this study was to compared the early growth pattern, stem, leaf and root weight, DM yield, flowering characteristics and preference for selection of turf type grasses and wild flower species in mixtures combination for wildflower pasture. The experimental design included five species of turf grasses and 11 species of wildflower : turf type grass species{Kentucky bluegrass(Midnight), tall fescue(Millennium), perennial ryegrass(Palmer III), redtop(Barricuda) and creeping bentgrass(Crenshaw)}, wildflower species {Chrysanthemum leucanthemum L. Coreopsis lanceolata L., Rudbeckia bicolor Nutt.., Dianthus chinensis L., Chrysanthemum lindicum L., Lotus corniculatus var. Japonicus Regel, Veronica linariaefolia Pallas, Aster koraiensis Nakai., Chrysanthemum zanadskii var. latilobum (Maxim.) Kitamura, Lythrum anceps Makino and Iris pallassi var. chinensis Lodd}. The field trials were carried out on the experimental pasture plots of Chungnam National University from January 2005 to December 2006. The appropriate species of turf grass which have a mixture possibility with wildflower are thought to be Kentucky bluegrass. Compared with Kentucky bluegrass, on the other hand, species such as Chrysanthemum leucanthemum L., Lotus corniculatus var. Japonicus Regel, Chrysanthemum zanadskii var. latilobum Maxim.) Kitamura and Lythrum anceps Makino have shown advantageous aspects of fast early growth pattern and highly weights of stem, leaf and root. Futhermore, these wild flowers were in harmony and no overlap on flower color, flowering periods and flowering longevity, and highly preference by Korean native goats. For the establishment of wildflower pasture in Korea, therefore, it is important to select the appropriate species of turf glasses, which have a weak competition against wild flowers, and then to make mixture combination of those turf glasses with the various wild flowers which have a strong competition against turf glasses but have a different anthesis characteristics among themselves.
Seven native and four introduced herbs namely $Thymus$$quinquecostatus$, $Chrysanthemum$$zawadskii$ var. $latilobum$, $Rosmarinus$$officinalis$, etc. were selected for analysis of the DPPH radical scavenging and anti-microbial activity of their extracts. These perennial herbs are classified as $Labiatae$ and $Compositae$ except for $Saururus$$chinensis$ and can be propagated through seedling and cuttage. These edible herbs are used as medicinal as well as ornamental plants. Their extract has electron donating ability which ranges from 69.7 to 78.7% for native herbs and 67.4 to 75.4% for introduced herbs. Native herbs have higher (3.54%) average DPPH radical scavenging than introduced herbs. In native herbs, maximum DPPH radical scavenging activity was observed in $Agastache$$rugosa$ (78.7%) followed by $Saururus$$chinensis$ while $Chamaemelum$$nobile$ showed highest activity among the introduced herbs. Many herbs viz. $Saururus$$chinensis$, $Chrysanthemum$$zawadskii$ var. $latilobum$ and $Solidago$$virga-aurea$ var. $gigantean$ showed excellent anti-microbial activity against gram positive $Enterococcus$$faecalis$, maximum (80.0%) by $Saururus$$chinensis$. Other herbs viz. $Solidago$$virga-aurea$ var. $gigantea$, $Chrysanthemum$$zawadskii$ var. $latilobum$, $Salvia$Salvia $plebeia$, $Chrysanthemum$$indicum$, $Rosmarinus$$officinalis$, $Chamaemelum$$nobile$ and $Lavandula$$stoechas$ showed anti-microbial activity against gram negative $Citrobacter$$freundii$. Especially, the inhibition of colony growth of $Citrobacter$$freundii$ was highest in the extract of $Chrysanthemum$$zawadskii$ var. $latilobum$, and $Chamaemelum$$nobile$.
Korean folk medicine 'DulGugWha' has been used to cure common cold, cough and chronic and acute gastiritis in Korea. The botanical origin of the crude drug has never been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'DulGugWha', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of Chrysanthemum species growing in Korea, i.e. C. boreale, C. indicum, C. zawadskii and C. zawadskii var. latilobum were studied. As a result, 'DulGugWha' was proved to be the whole plant body of Chrysanthemum boreale of Compositae.
Mt. paektu(altitude 2,749.6m) is ecologically important because successional processes following volcanic eurption are quite clear. We investigated plant communities with altitude know vertical distribution of plant vegetation on the north-western slope of Mt. paektu was divided into five parts; the pine-hardwood forest zone(600∼1,000m alt.), the lower coniferous forest zone (1,000∼1,500 m alt.), the upper coniferous forest and birch forest zone(1,500∼2,000 m alt.), the alpine shrub zone(2,000∼2,500 m alt.) and the alpine meadow zone(2,500∼2,749 m alt.). In particular, the alpine zone was divided into alpine shrub and alpine meadow zones and distributed up to 2,500m alt. these results reflet the adaptations of these shrubs at this altitude. But these shrubby communities disappeared on the alpinemeadow zone. In the alpine meadow zone above than 2,500m alt., some meadows, papaver radicatum var pscudoradicatum. bistorta ochotensis, chrysathemum zawadskii var. latilobum etc., were occured.
Nine sesquiterpene lactones, which were isolated from Hemisteptia lyrata Bunge. Chrysanthemum zawadskii Herbich var. latilobum Kitamura and Chrysanthemum boreale Makino were evaluated for the farnesyl-protein transferase (FPTase) inhibitor, conducted by the scintillation proximity assay (SPA). The angeloylcumambrin B and tigloylcumambrin B inhibited a recombinant rat FPTase with $IC_{50}$ value of $78\;{\mu}g/ml$$(225\;{\mu}M)$ and $90\;{\mu}g/ml$$(260 \;{\mu}M)$, respectively.
