This study focused on the field applicability evaluation of SB latex-modified concrete (LMC) for concrete bridge deck overlay using mobile mixer. The main experimental factors were water-cement ratio(31, 33, 35 37%), latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), and fine aggregate ratio(55, 56, 57, 58%) in order to evaluate the workability, mechanical properties, and durability property of LMC. The slump loss, air content, compressive and flexible strength tests were used to evaluate LMC workability and strength properties. Also, the rapid chloride permeability test was used to evaluate the relative permeability of LMC. As a results, the LMC with enough workability and good quality was produced when it was mixed in field using mobile mixer, satisfying the target compressive strength and flexural strength. The required water-cement ratio of LMC for same workability when mixing with mobile mixer was less than that when mixing in laboratory. Increasing the amount of latex produced concrete with increased flexural strength by mobile mixer. The required cement-water ratios for same initial $19{\pm}3cm$ slump were 37% and 33% at laboratory and mobile mixer, respectively. The mobile mixer was accurately calibrated satisfying the required specification.

The purpose of this study was to remove the excessive air foaming which was produced in mixing the RSLMC(latex-modified concrete with rapid- setting cement) by choosing the best antifoam agent type and the optimized quantity for performance improved RSLMC. A series of RSLMM(latex-modified mortar with rapid-setting cement) experiments were carried out as the basic for RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as antifiamer types(A, B, C, D), antifoamer contents(0, 1, 2, 3%). Air content test and compressive, flexural tests were carried out to measure the improved properties of RSLMM and RSLMC. Chloride ion permeability test was carried out to estimate water permeability resistance. The results of RSLMM showed that the decrease of 50% air content was obtained by admixturing a antifoam agent by 1%. The compressive strength and flexural strength at 3 hours after RSLMC placement were 235kgf/cm$^2$ and 49kgf/cm$^2$, respectively, which exceeded the flexural strength criterion of 45kgf/cm$^2$ in order to open the RSLMC placed to traffic. The chloride permeability using A and C antifoamer at 28 days were below 100 coulombs, which was the permeability rating of negligible according to ASTM.
Latex microspheres of styrene/acryl copolymer with acrylamide functional group were used for the stable covalent immobilization of an enzyme applicable for enzymatic synthesis of glycoside. The latex microspheres were coated with polyethyleneimine to establish structural and functional properties relevant to the covalent Immobilization with a high retention of activity. Polythyleneimine-coated microspheres satisfactorily immobilized the invertase for methyl fructoside synthesis, and model reaction were formed into alginate-enclosed microspheres biocatalyst. Using the alginate-enclosed microspheres biocatalyst, the yield of model glycoside was obtained as high as 52.2% at concentration of aqueous 30%(v/v) methanol and 0.291mo1/1 sucrose solution with 2U/ml of activity. The present study showed that the latex microspheres were successfully applied to enzymatic synthesis of glycoside.

Generally, paper multilayering was performed before wet pressing process. However, sheets whose characteristics are different could be put together at the dry state by adhesives for the specialty paper products. In this paper, potential adhesives such as PVAc, oxidised starch, latex, and PVA were chosen and multilayering of several sheets was performed in laboratory scale. The effects of base paper properties and the composition of adhesives on the physical properties of multilayering paper were investigated. Physical properties such as bonding strength and stiffness were measured. For the practical reasons, mill trial was also executed. According to the result of laboratory tests and mill trial test, the physical properties of multilayered paper were greatly affected by the composition of adhesives and it was found that PVAc showed the best performance in all its aspects among four adhesives. Oxidised starch had an advantage of high stiffness and PVA gave high bonding strength to the multilayered paper. And it was also found that the properties of base paper showed the great influences not only on multilayering process, but also on the physical properties of the multilayered paper.
This paper was intended to evaluate the effect of the blending condition of pigments on the packing structure of coating color and the interaction between pigments and latices on the optical and interior properties of coated paper. It has been studied many ways to modify the coating structure to induce the interaction among coating components as followings ; 1) to use dispersant for pigment, 2) to control the charge density and the type of surface charge of latex, 3) to support the water retention by adding water retention agent or flow modifier. This paper was performed through the introduction of interaction between pigments which were two kinds of clays and one precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC) and ionic latices of which anionic and amphoteric respectively under the certain blending condition of pigments where their blending ratio of clays to calcium carbonate was 70pph to 30pph. The reason is that packing volume of pigments was highest in that region and thixotropical behavior appears in measuring rheology of coating color. We measured the properties of coating color, interaction with pigments and latex, and properties of coated paper and its printability. As a results, we could find out that amphoteric latex had a great influence on the interaction with pigments, especially clays, no matter what grade and also affected the coating structure significantly in case that this blending condition was 70(clays) to 30(PCC). It produced a powerful effect on the forming of bulky and smooth coating structure and in turn improved the printability of coated paper.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of the type of base papers containing rice straw-BKP on the properties and printabilities of coated papers. Also, it was intended to evaluate the effect of coated paper prepared with anionic and amphoteric latex based coating color. The results obtained from this study were as follows. The fiber length of rice straw-BKP was observed much shorter than those of the wood pulps(Sw-BKP, Hw-BKP). This has effect on physical properties. Therefore, the results of measured physical properties were much lower than those of wood pulps. Also, physical properties tended to increase slightly with the increase of the mixing ratio of Sw-BKP. Opacity of the base paper containing rice straw-BKP, was higher than that of the wood pulps. As the mixing ratio of Sw-BKP increases the opacity tended to decrease. On the other hand, smoothness and roughness to rice straw-BKP were similar with Sw-BKP and its air permeability was lower than those of wood pulps. The optical properties of coated papers containing rice straw-BKP tended to be similar to those of other base papers. The ink receptivity of coated papers containg rice straw-BKP was higher than those of wood pulps and printing gloss was similar to wood pulps. The mixing ratio of Sw-BKP, the ink receptivity and printing gloss of rice straw-BKP were showed no difference irrespective the mixing ratio of Sw-BKP. Meannwhile, amphoteric latex improved the optical properties and printability of coated papers.

RS-LMC (Rapid Setting Latex Modified Concrete) has been widely used as repair material for bridge deck overlay or rehabilitation, because the overlaid pavement could be opened to the traffic after 3 hours of curing. Although the field performance of RS-LMC generally indicates that it has an excellent bonding to the substrate and shows a long term performance, the crack by vibration of vehicles have been happened on the overlay of bridges in technical reports. In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate the vibration properties of RS-LMC overlays by using P.S.T (Pavement Shaking Table). Total 12 specimens were tested and the variables are Latex-cement ratio (L/C) and amplitude of vibration. The result shows that the number of cracks and the total length of cracks are reduced as the increase of Latex-cement ratio (L/C) until 15%. And the crack occurs at a very small strain than the proposed values by Walter, D, G and design codes.
Starch was grafted by poly(methyl methacrylate) through the emulsion polymerization method. Modified starch/(acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) (NBR) compounds were prepared by a latex blend method. The morphology, thermal properties and mechanical properties of the modified starch/carbon black/NBR composites were investigated with the change of starch concentration. The mechanical properties of the composites were improved by the addition of modified starch. But, when the concentration of modified starch was higher than 40 phr, the mechanical properties were deteriorated due to the poor dispersion of modified starch. At the same ratio of starch to carbon black, the composite showed a synergistic reinforcing effect by the good dispersion and high cross-linking density. In addition, the tensile strength, storage modulus, hardness, swelling and other properties were the best.
The heterocoagulation of latex is a simple and useful method to fabricate various polymer nanocomposites in which a precise control of the colloid stability is essential. In this work, a multi-layered graphenes (MLGs)/poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate) (P(S-co-BA)) nanocomposite having an excellent dispersion of MLGs was prepared via the sudden heating heterocoagulation process. The P(S-co-BA) component was obtained by emulsion polymerization. This process can effectively shorten the process and particles growth steps. The colloid stability of these dispersions was controlled by factors such as ionic charge, temperature, and reaction times. The influence of these factors on heterocoagulation was evaluated and the properties of the nanocomposites were investigated. The conductivity of the MLGs/P(S-co-BA) nanocomposites increased from -11.53 to -5.70 S/cm for an increase in MLG content from 0.01 to 5 wt%. Moreover, percolation threshold was observed in the case of 0.01 wt% MLGs.
