To compare the vitality among cool-season turfgrasses under summer weather conditions and to obtain information to improve the management of turfgrasses in golf courses and sports fields., the chlorophyll fluorescence of three cool-season turfgrasses commonly planted on golf courses in the Jeju area was measured. The turfgrasses were perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), and creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.). In perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass, the chlorophyll index was low in early summer and high in late summer. In creeping bentgrass, it remained low throughout the study. Fo tended to be low in the early summer and high in late summer in the three turfgrasses. However, the difference in Fo between late summer and early summer was markedly higher in perennial ryegrass than in Kentucky bluegrass or creeping bentgrass. Fm tended to be low in early summer and high in late summer, without obvious differences among the three turfgrasses. Fv/Fm, a measure of photochemical efficiency, was also low in early summer and high in late summer in the three turfgrasses. However, Fv/Fm in late summer was mostly higher in Kentucky bluegrass and creeping bentgrass than in perennial ryegrass, indicating that the former are more resistant to the high temperature and humidity of late summer. Furthermore, Kentucky bluegrass had a high chlorophyll index in late summer and would be most resistant to the harsh conditions of late summer.
In this study, we analyzed the relationships between weather factors and photosystem II activity (Fv/Fm), as a measure of photochemical efficiency, in three cool-season turfgrasses commonly planted on golf courses in Jeju, South Korea: perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), and creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.). In all three turfgrasses, Fv/Fm was higher during late summer than during early summer. However, in late summer, Fv/Fm was significantly lower in perennial ryegrass than in the other two species. In early summer, Fv/Fm in perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass was positively correlated with mean low temperature and extreme minimum temperature, whereas, in late summer, this parameter in Kentucky bluegrass and creeping bentgrass was positively correlated with relative humidity, and in creeping bentgrass was negatively correlated with mean high temperature, mean low temperature, and extreme maximum temperature. These results indicate that raising low temperatures is favorable for perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass in early summer, whereas, in late summer, the lowering of high temperatures proves to be beneficial for creeping bentgrass, and raising relative humidity is conducive to the growth of Kentucky bluegrass and creeping bentgrass. These findings will contribute to improving the selection and management of turfgrasses on golf courses and sports fields.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of planting dates using garlic bulbils for production of seed garlic. The planting dates were examined using 0.2 g bulbils of 'Namdo' or 'Danyang'. For the planting dates study conducted in the middle regions, the bulbils of 'Danyang' planted in autumn produced bulb weight ranging from 3.1 to 3.5 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 61 to 71. The bulbils of 'Danyang' planted in spring produced bulb weight ranging from 1.8 to 2.8 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 53 to 60. The most desirable planting date was in the early October for the middle regions. For the planting dates study conducted in the southern regions, the bulbils of 'Namdo' planted in autumn produced bulb weight ranging from 1.8 to 3.0 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 74 to 89. The bulbils of 'Danyang' planted in spring produced bulb weight ranging from 0.6 to 1.0 g and percentage of harvest ranged from 47 to 56. The most desirable planting date was in the mid and late September for the southern regions.
The study was conducted to investigate an optimum growing condition for various sizes of seedlings of rice for mechanical transplantation under different sowing rates, different levels of fertilizers, different sowing dates and g rowing days. The plant height, leaf number and dry weight of seedlings increased as the sowing rate decreased and amount of fertilizer applied were increased. Also those seedling characters increased as the rice planted late and the total growing periods increased. The factors affected seedling chracters were ordered as following-sowing times>growing days>sowing rate>fertilizer levels. 200 gr. of seeds per box and 4 gr. of fertilizers were optimum for young seedling growth, when sown early. For medium size of seed ling growth, 50 grams and 100 to 125 grams of rice seemed to be adequate for 25 days old and 35 days old seedling, respectively. However, the 45 days old seedling grew too mach and were not suitable for mechanical transplantation. When planted late, similar results were obtained with more differences among treatments. In other words, the suitable plant density was obtained when 100 gr. of seeds were planted per box. Middle class of seedlings were obtained when 100 to 150 gr. of rice were planted per box and grown for 25 days. The seedlings from the box with 100 to 150 gr. of rice per box were over grown and ratio of suitable seedling was also low if they were grown over 35 days.

This study investigates how Abies holophylla was planted as a tree sacred to the gods by Japan during the late Chosun and Japanese colonial periods. This study surveyed the current conditions of old Abies holophylla geological information, year planted, and the relationship between Abies holophylla and traditional Japanese values. The reasons that Abies holophylla was considered a tree sacred to the gods are as follows. Firstly, trees are planted on the spaces between Iljumun and Numun in Buddhist temples of Korea in the same way as trees are planted on the roads for worship in traditional temples of Japan. Secondly, tree diameter at breast height ranged from 60cm to 100cm. This means that the Abies holophylla trees range in age from 70 years to 138 years, showing that the trees were planted at the period between the beginning of Japanese Buddhism(1877) and the Japanese Colonial Period (1945). Thirdly, conclusions regarding why the Abies holophylla were planted in Korean temples at the beginning of Japanese Buddhism will be drawn based on the records that Jingu-Kogo's Conquest of Silla was taken care of the Suwataisha as a tree sacred to the gods in Japanese tradition. The reason for which Abies holophylla was planted in Korean temples should be evaluated through the remnants of Japan in the past. The issue of the old Abies holophylla in Korean temples should be investigated and further discussed in depth.

As part of the waterway restoration to renew traditional urban area, this paper is to assume and research Gyoseocheon(Gyoseo waterway) in Late 1960s Cheongju Korea. The main stream of Gyoseocheon flew from Sangjwagol(the head of the valley) of Uam Mt. to the north gate under Cheongju castle at first, and meandering from Sangdang Park, flew through Sudongseongdang and Bangadari Road to Musimcheon since open railroad of 1920s. This waterway, the eco-friendly figure of Gyoseocheon, that flew to inside the downtown with a planted tree and that is open space was so. The sub stream of Gyoseocheon originated in Seoundong and Tapdong were divided into two parts. One was to join the main stream of Gyoseocheon on Sangdang Park via Munhwadong, and the other was to join the sub stream of Musimcheon at northwest corner via south and west gate of Cheongju castle. This waterway as branch sewer were built into the road culvert.

The purpose of this study is to analyze historical records of what the trees had been planted like by establishment and management of the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty so that it could be utilized for historical records to manage the trees in the Royal Tombs. The research method was to analyze the related keywords for 40 trees out of 42 trees in the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty reffering to "The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty(朝鮮王朝實錄)," and "Neungji(陵誌)". There are two types of planting called Jeongsik(定植) Bosik(補植) in the Royal Tombs. Jeongsik(定植) is a planting method by Salleungdogam(山陵都監), the office in charge of construction of the royal tomb when they were building the royal tomb. Every tree additionally planted after building up the royal tomb was called Bosik(補植). The types of tree planting the composition and management of the royal tombs of Joseon are as follows. First, the first planting for landscaping was carried out during the process of building the province. Second, after the formation of Shanung, all the plants were planted by Wangmyung as additional plants. Third, due to the deforestation in the late Joseon period, additional plants were planted in the fertile plains. Fourth, trees were damaged due to natural disasters, and trees were planted together with the construction of the botanical gardens. Fifth, in the 22nd year of King Jeongjo, all the royal families' graves were regularly planted. This study aims to investigate the history of forest landscape management for the restoration of the royal tombs of Joseon.
Buckwheat has been a popular favorite food crop in Korea for a long time. The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of climatic conditions and cultural methods on grain yields of summer buckwheat variety Sinnong 1 planted during the spring season in Suwon, Korea from 1989 to 1991. Frost minimum temperature of late April was -0.3$^{\circ}C$ in 1990 being very low as compared with 3.7$^{\circ}C$ of the normal year, and affected early growth of the seedlings emerging from the soil surface. In late May of 1990, the frost minimum temperature was 7.3$^{\circ}C$ being low as compared with 8.8$^{\circ}C$ of the normal year, and also induced cold injury to fertilization and grain filling. Total precipitation 374.5mm of mid and late June, 1990 provided serious damage to the grain filling and maturing buckwheat seeds and along with causing seed sprouting before harvest. However, the climates of 1989 and 1991 were very good for the growth and development of spring-sown buckwheats. When summer buckwheat cultivar Sinnong 1 was planted on April 20, 1989, its highest grain yields 268-292kg /10a were harvested from the plots of seeding rate 8kg /10a, drill seeding and polyethylene film mulching, and the mean grain yield of the plots was 238kg /10a in 1989, but 64.3kg in Suwon, and 40.2kg /10a in Muan in 1990. In 1991 maximum grain yield 277kg /10a was produced from the April 15 planted and vinyl-mulched plot, and 255kg /10a from the April 25 planted and non-mulched plot. Herbicide Alachlor-sprayed plots produced lower grain yields than no weed control and manual weeding plots. Mechanized drill-seeding saved 83~84% in planting hours as compared with manual broadcasting 21.6 hours /ha, and produced 9% more in grain yields from the two-season croppings of mechanized drill-seeding culture being 364kg /10a in total yields per year.
This investigation was conducted to determine the effect of the optimum planting date and place for good seed production on growth variation, grain yields, different of variety, infection of seed by fungi, and seed germination and vigor after room storage. Early maturity Korean soybean variety, Keunolkong, and introduced vegetable soybean variety, Fukura-edamame, were planted at field of YAES. and high cool land of Sajapyong in Milyang(altitude, 850m) on May 15 (early), June 15 (mid.), and July 15 (late) in 1991. The emergence and vegetative period gradually increased in the early planting date. The grain yield, seed weight, pod number, healthy grain yield also increased when Keunolkong was planted on early date. The healthy seed rate, Keunolkong increased in the early planting date, whereas that of Fukura also increased in the late planting date. Infection ratio of grain to phomopsis seed decay (Phomopsis spp. ' Diaporthe phaseolorum) in Fukura steadily increased in the early planting date. Infection ratio of grain to purple seed stain (Cercospora kikuchii) generally increased in the mid and late planting date. The seed germination and seedling vigor after room storage from five to six months gradually increased in the late planting date. And seed germination of Fukura rapidly decreased in the early planting date. Therefore, the optimum planting date for good seed production in early maturity vegetable soybean was June 15 in terms of harvesting time avoid a high temprature and humidity.
Planting date of soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is one of production components in cultural systems. The objective of the current study was to identify the components of soybean production and cultural practices encompassing planting dates and cultivars that respond to dry matter accumulation, harvest index and yield components. Three determinate soybean cultivars were planted on May 13 (early), June 3 (mid), and June 24 (late). Planting density was 60$\times$15cm with 2 seeds (222,000 plants per ha). Soybean plants were sampled every 10 days interval from the growth stages of V5 to R8 and separated into leaves including petioles, stems, pods, and seeds. Dry matter accumulations, harvest indices, and yield components were measured. Early planting had taken 55 days from VE to R2 and late planting taken 39 days indicating reduced vegetative growth. Early planting showed higher leaf, stem, pod and seed dry weights than late planting. However, late planting appeared to be higher harvest index and harvesting rate. Vegetative mass including leaf and stem increased to a maximum around R4/R5 and total dry weight increased to a maximum around R5/R6 and then declined slightly at R8. The highest seed yield was obtained with mid planting and no difference was found between early and late plantings. Cultivar differences were found among planting dates on growth characteristics and yield components. The results of this experiment indicated that soybean yield in relation to planting dates examined was mainly associated with harvest index and harvesting rate, and planting date of cultivars would be considered soybean plants to reach the growth stage of R4/R5 after mid August for adequate seed yield.
