Food Organisms of Juveniles of Tridentiger of trigonocephalus Inhabited at Intertidal Zone of the Western Coast of Korea

  • To investigate the food organisms of the Tridentiger trigonocephalus during the juveniles stage, the stomach contents of fish, captured in the intertidal zone of Chungchongnam-do Sochon-gun Su-myon Dodun-ri getween on early June from end of May 1999, were observed. Total length of the juveniles of T. trigonocephalus was 5.5mm∼9.0mm size, and the participation rate of feeding was 68.5%. Main food organisms were such as copepods, shrimp larvae, polychaete larvae, and these occupied more than dry weight 2%. Copepods among them dominated the most quantitys by average 67.5%, and next, food organismsms appeared much by order of polychaete larvae and shrimp larvae etc.. Therefore, most important food organisms of juvenile stage of T. trigonocephalus were copepods, polychaete larvae, shrimp larvae etc.

  • To investigate the food organisms of the Chasmichthys dolichognathus during the juveniles stage, the stomach contents of fish, captured in the intertidal zone of Chungchongnam-do Sochon-gun Su-myon Dodun-ri between on early June from end of May 1998, were observed. Total length of the juveniles of C. dolichognathus was 6.5mm ∼10.0mm size, and the participation rate of feeding was 67.7%. Main food organisms were such as copepods, amphipods, shrimp larvae, polychaete larvae, and these occupied more than dry weight 2%. Copepods among them dominated the most quantitys by avergage 65.5%, and next, food organismsms appeared much by order of polychaete larvae and shrimp larvae etc. Therefore, most important food organisms of juvenile stage of C. dolichognathus were copepods, polychaete larvae, shrimp larvae etc.

배추좀나방과 파밤나방의 효소활성 및 flupyrazofos 에 의한 AChE 활성 저해 (Activities of esterase and acetylcholinesterase on the diamond backmoth, Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera : Yponomeutidae) and beet armywarm, Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae) and inhibitions of acetylcholinesterase with flupyrazofos)

  • 매추좀나방과 파밤나방에 대한 flupyrazofos 의 작용기작을 구명하기위하여 한국화학연구소에서 분양을 받아 실내에서 19 세대 누대 사육한 배추좀나방과 포장에서 채집하여 실내에서 인공사료를 이용하여 25세대 누대사육한 파밤나방을 대상으로 효소활성도 및 flupyrazofos 에 의한 AChE 활성 저해정도를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 배추좀나방과 파밤나방의 머리에 있는 AChE의 활성도는 배추좀나방 1령$\sim$4령에서 $1.5\sim11.1$ ng/larva/ruin 이었고, 파밤나방 1령$\sim$6령에서 $1.7\sim45.2$ ng/larva/min로 나타나 4령이상의 영기에서는 $25\sim30$배이상 높았다. 배추좀나방과 파밤나방에 대한 aliesterase 의 활성도는 배추좀나방 1령충에 비하여 배추좀나방 2령$\sim$4령에서는 머리와 복부에서 각각 $1.7\sim4.7$배와 $3\sim17$배 이하였으나, 파밤나방 3령$\sim$6령에서는 $8\sim55$배와 $12\sim30$배 이상이었다. Flupyrazofos 에 의한 AChE 반수저해농도 $(I_{50})$는 배추좀나방 2령과 4령에서 각각 92 nM과 $1.8{\mu}M$이었고 파밤나방 2령과 4령에서 각각 $15{\mu}M$과 3.1mM로 나타나 파밤나방은 배추좀나방 보다 약 $162\sim1,720$배 이상 높은 농도를 보였다.

Morphological Differences between Larvae of the Oriental Fruit Moth (Grapholita molesta Busck) and the Peach Fruit Moth (Carposina sasakii Matsumura) in Korea

  • The oriental fruit moth (Grapholita molesta Busck) and the peach fruit moth (Carposina sasakii Matsumura) are the most severe insect pests affecting apple orchards in Korea. To prevent an outbreak of these two species and to control these agricultural insect pests, it is important to identify them accurately. However, it is hard to classify them when they were in the larval stage since they tunnel into the apple fruit. In this study, surface structures of the two species of larvae were observed using stereo microscope and scanning electron microscope. Distinct differences between the two species of larvae were found. The prothorax spiracles of oriental fruit moth larvae were approximately twice as large as those of peach fruit moth larvae. The arrangements of subventral setae, located around the proleg, were different between oriental fruit moth and peach fruit moth larvae. Furthermore, subdorsal setae of oriental fruit moth were located next to the spiracle on the 8th abdominal segment, while that of peach fruit moth was located above the spiracle. The identification of the two species of larvae observed in this study was confirmed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Surface structural differences are intrinsic characteristics for each species of larvae and can easily be identified using stereo microscope. These specificities will be helpful where a large number of field-collected larvae need to be identified routinely in pest control research.

누에 유충의 혈림프 유약호르몬 에스테라제 활성의 조절에 관한 연구 (Regulation of Haemolymph Juvenile Hormone Esterase Activity in Larvae of the Silkworm, Bombyx mori)

  • 누에의 5령유충 섭식기 동안 절식, 두흉부 결찰, 재섭식 및 methoprene 등의 처리가 JHE 활성도의 조절에 미치는 영향을 실험한 바 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 누에의 절식 및 결찰처리를 하면 혈림프 JHE 활성도가 감소하였다. 2. 절식누에는 재섭식에 의해 JHE 활성도가 증가하였으며, 재섭식에 의한 JHE 활성도의 증가시기는 절식기간에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 3. 절식누에에 methoprene을 투여하면 JHE 활성도는 5령 기잠과 1일에서는 변화가 없었으나 2일부터 5일에서 절식누에에 비해 1.3-1.4배 증가하였다. 4. 결찰누에에 methoprene을 처리하면 JHE 활성도는 5령 기잠에 변화가 없었고 1일부터 5일에서는 결찰누에에 비해 1.9-2.3배 증가하였다. 5. 이상의 결과에서 5령누에의 섭식기 동안 JHE 활성도의 조절에는 두부요인, JH 및 영양 등이 중요한 요인으로 작용하였다 .특히 섭식기에 있어서 JHE는 두부요인과 JH의 공동작용에 의해 조절되지만, 령의 초기에는 두부요인이 그 후에는 JH가 보다 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 생각된다.

제주마(濟州馬)의 위장관(胃腸管)에 기생(寄生)하는 Gasterophilus spp의 분류(分類) 및 분포조사(分布調査) (On the classification and distribution of Gasterophilus spp in the gastrointestinal tract in Cheju horse)

  • This paper dealt with the situation and the hatch rate of bot's eggs on the equine hairs in Cheju horse with the species grouping of the bot flies of equine(genus Gasterophilus). The prevalence and infection dynamics of Gasterophilus spp. larvae was also evaluated in the equine alimentary canal submitted in this laboratory for the necropsy or from the abattoir. Samples including Gasterophilus spp. larvae, bot's flies and its eggs, which were collected from the alimentary canal and equine hairs, respectively, were studied and classified by morphology. The morphologic feature of the spines of Gasterophilus larvae were studied by scanning electron microscope. 1. Gasterophilus intestinalis larvae concentrated in the nonglandular portions of the stomach. The infection of second-, and third stage larvae were common in November, and from January to October, respectively. Gasterophilus nasalis larvae were commonly identified on the gastric pylorus and upper portion of duodenum. Second stage larvae were found from October to December, and 3rd stage larvae, from January to September. 2. The hatch rate of laid eggs of Gasterophilus intestinalis was 28.4%, and that of Gasterophilus nasalis was 79.5%. The hatch rate of Gasterophilus intestinalis eggs was highest(62.5%) in December. The hatch rate of laid eggs were higher in the region of scapula(64.0%) and limbs(62.5%) than on the maned hairs. The eggs of Gasterophilus nasalis were completely hatched by October. 3. Eight hundred five Cheju horses examined in this study were infected with the eggs of Gasterophilus spp. Gasterophilus intestinalis eggs on the body regions from sixty horses were recognized in phalangeal (14.4%), in abdominal(13.8%), metacarpal, brachial and cervical regions. Gasterophilus nasalis eggs were uncommon and recognized in submandibular regions(1.4%). 4. In conclusion, the infection of imago, larvae and eggs of both Gasterophilus intestinalis and Gasterophilus nasalis were indentified in cheju horse.

  • 피조개는 우리나라의 내만이나 내해의 비교적 수심이 깊은 곳에 사는 대형종으로 조개류 중에서 가장 값비싼 중요양식종이다. 이 종의 양식을 위한 관심이 컸고, 많은 노력도 해 왔으나 양식의 기본이 되는 종묘생산이 제대로 되지않아 그 양식은 언제나 형식에 지나지 않았다.

  • 가리비(scallop)는 한해성인 대형 조개류로서 우리나라 동해안에 분포하고 있으나, 영일만이나 영흥만과 같은 만 또는 그 부근에 특히 많은편이다. 가리비는 패주로서 중요할 뿐만 아니라 패각은 대규모 굴(oyster)양식의 부착기질로서도 중요하다. 우리나라에 있어서는 가리비 양식의 필요성이 크나, 양식의 기본문제가 되는 종묘생산 뿐만아니라, 이를 위한 기초연구들이 되어 있지 않다. 가리비의 양식적지라고 생각되는 우리나라 동해안을 대상으로 양식을 위해 현재까지 조사된 것은 1973년에 본대학 천해양식학연구실과 수산진흥원 포항지원의 공동조사 자료의 일부를 이등 (1977)이 발표한 것 뿐이며, 그 내용 중 부유유생에 관한 것은 4월 22일부터 6월 18일 까지 사이에 6회를 조사한 것 뿐이다.

Comparative Efficacy of Ivermectin and Levamisole for Reduction of Migrating and Encapsulated Larvae of Baylisascaris transfuga in Mice

  • The comparative efficacy of 2 anthelmintics (ivermectin and levamisole) against Baylisascaris transfuga migrating and encapsulated larvae was studied in mice. A total of 60 BALB/c mice inoculated each with about 1,000 embryonated B. transfuga eggs were equally divided into 6 groups (A-F) randomly. Mice of groups A and B were treated with ivermectin and levamisole, respectively, on day 3 post-infection (PI). Mice of groups A-C were killed on day 13 PI. Similarly, groups D and E were treated with ivermectin and levamisole, respectively, on day 14 PI, and all mice of groups D-F were treated on day 24 PI. The groups C and F were controls. Microexamination was conducted to count the larvae recovering from each mouse. The percentages of reduction in the number of migrating larvae recovered from group A (ivermectin) and B (levamisole) were 88.3% and 81.1%, respectively. In addition, the reduction in encapsulated larvae counts achieved by ivermectin (group D) and levamisole (group E) was 75.0% and 49.2%, respectively. The results suggested that, to a certain extent, both anthelmintics appeared to be more effective against migrating larvae than encapsulated larvae. However, in the incipient stage of infection, ivermectin may be more competent than levamisole as a larvicidal drug for B. transfuga.

Ecdysteroid Stimulates Virus Transmission in Larvae Infected with Bombyx mori Nucleopolyhedrovirus

  • Most baculoviruses have an ecdysteroid UDP-glucosyltransferase (egt) gene, whose product inactivates ecdysteroid within the infected host. Bomhyx mori larvae infected with BmEGTZ, a mutant B. mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) in which the egt gene has been inactivated, die more rapidly compared to larvae infected with wild-type BmNPV. In this study, the profile of hemolymph proteins, and progression of virus infection in BmEGTZ- and BmNPV-infected B. mori larvae, was analyzed by SDS-PAGE and histochemically. These analyses showed that virus-encoded and virus-induced proteins were expressed quicker in BmEGTZ-infected larvae than in BmNPV-infected larvae. This suggests that the decrease in time to death, following BmEGTZ infection, results from the stimulation of virus-specific protein expression. In order to examine the effect of ecdysteroid on virus transmission, the profile of hemolymph proteins, and progression of virus infection, were analyzed following an ecdysteroid injection of BmEGTZ- or BmNPV-infected larvae. In the BmNPV-infected larvae, ecdysteroid treatment had no apparent effect on hemolymph protein expression. This suggests that the injected ecdysteroid was inactivated by the BmNPV-expressed ecdysteroid UDP-glucosyltransferase. An Ecdysteroid injection into BmEGTZ-infected larvae increased the speed of virus-specific protein expression and virus transmission. These results suggest that ecdysteroid stimulates protein expression, which in tum results in the stimulation of virus transmission.
