  • This paper investigates ordering alternation phenomena in Korean using the dative construction data from Sejong Corpus of Modern Korean (Kim, 2000). The paper first shows that syntactic weight and information structure are distinct and independent factors that influence word order in Korean. Moreover, it reveals that heaviness and givenness compete each other and exert diverging effects on word order, which contrasts the converging effects of these factors shown in word orders of right-branching languages like English. The typological variation of syntactic weight effect poses interesting theoretical and empirical questions, which are discussed in relation to processing efficiency in ordering.

  • In contrast with Zelazo and Frye (1997) who argued that preschool children lack the conscious representation and executive functioning needed to solve problems based on conflicting rules, Bilaystok (1999) identified analysis(representation) and control(selective attention) as components of language processing and has shown that control develops earlier in bilingual than in monolingual children. This study investigated the effects of bilingualism on children's cognitive ability and language development by comparing Korean- Chinese bilingual with Chinese monolingual children in Yanji. Sixty children 3 to 5 years of age in each of the bilingual and the monolingual groups in Yanji, China participated in ths study. Results showed that bilingual were more advanced than monolingual children in solving problems requiring a high level of control, confirming Bialystok's(1999) results.

  • This paper proposes a novel semantic feature detection (SFD) method for real-time image transmission of sign language and finger spelling. We extract semantic information as an interlingua from input text by natural language processing, and then transmit the semantic feature detection, which actually is a parameterized action representation, to the 3-D articulated humanoid models prepared in each client in remote locations. Once the SFD is received, the virtual human will be animated by the synthesized SFD. The experimental results based on Japanese sign langauge and Chinese sign langauge demonstrate that this algorithm is effective in real-time image delivery of sign language and finger spelling.

  • Natural language query is the best user interface for the users of information retrieval systems. This paper Proposes a retrieval system with expanded keyword from syntactically-analyzed structures of user's natural language query based on natural language processing technique. Through the steps combining or splitting the compound nouns based on syntactic tree traversal, and expanding the other-formed or shorten-formed keyword into multiple keyword, the system performance was enhanced up to 11.3% precision and 4.7% correctness.

  • This paper presents a design experience of a control language for coordination of a multi-robot system. To effectively program job commands, a Petrinet-type Graphical Robot Language(PGRL) is proposed, where some functions, such as concurrency and synchronization, for coordination among tasks can be easily programmed. In our system, the proposed task commands of PGRL are implemented by employing formal model languages, which are composed of three modules, sensory, data handling, and action module. It is expected that by using our proposed PGRL and formal languages, one can easily describe a job or task, and hence can effectively operate a complex real-time and concurrent system. The control system is being implemented by using VME-based 32-bit microprocessor boards for supervisory, each module controller(arm, hand, leg, sensor data processing module) and a real time multi-tasking operating system(VxWorks). • Negotiation plays a fundamental role in human cooperative activities, allowing people to resolve conflicts that could interfere with cooperative behaviors. Negotiation In multi-agent systems is achieved through the exchange of messages In a shared agent communication language (ACL). We introduce a rational negotiation meta-language for autonomous, self-interested, and resource-bounded artificial BDI agents. We then propose a negotiation protocol for BDI agents with communicative acts based on their mental states.

  • This paper addresses the query processing component of a wrapper system for a relational database model based on the XML view in integrating databases. The schema of a relational database is represented as XML Schema that is proposed by W3C. Users submit a query using the XML query language XQuery over the XML Schema. The wrapper system to be developed supports an user-defined XML view. XQuery is also used as the view definition language. In this environment, this paper suggests a new XML query processing model. We propose the composition algorithm of an XML view with an user query, the translation algorithm of XQuery into SQL, and the XML template construction algorithm for generating XML documents.

  • With increasing amounts of information on the web and needs to access accurately them, it is very important to standardize metadata and to store and manage system. The RDF(Rdsource Description Framework) is a framework for representing exchanging, and reusing metadata. And, it can be processing uniformly the standardized metadata, because it uses XML(eXtensible Markup Language) syntax. The RDF schema provides a basic type system for use RDF models. In this paper, we propose rules and an algorithm to convert the RDF schema into an UML(Unified Modeling Language) class diagram and formal models to represent an object-oriented schema for the RDF schema. The proposed rules and algorithm are useful for natural mapping and the object modeling of RDF schema can be easily converted into the object-oriented schema, and the formal models supports an efficient environment for retrieving and processing object-oriented documents.

  • We have been studying a deep-learning program that can communicate with other users in online communities since 2017. But there were problems with processing a Korean data set because of Korean characteristics. Also, low usage of GPUs of RNN models was a problem too. In this study, as Natural Language Processing models are improved, we aim to make better results using these improved models. To archive this, we use a Transformer model which includes Self-Attention mechanism. Also we use MeCab, korean morphological analyzer, to address a problem with processing korean words.
