The subjects were 190 teachers who worked in a kindergarten or a childcare center in Daegu and in Gyoungbuk Province. Questionnaires were used to investigate collectivism, role conflict, and organizational commitment by self-reports from teachers. The collected data were analyzed by factor analysis, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS Win 15.0. The results were as follows. (1) Collectivism was positively associated with the organizational commitment of the teachers. (2) Role conflict was negatively associated with the organizational commitment of the teachers. Among the different types of role conflict, teaching profession conflict, co-worker conflict, and administration conflict were negatively associated with organizational commitment. • This study examines the current state of English education in private kindergartens in Korea. Among 1700 kindergarten teachers surveyed for this research, 680 replied that their institutions provided English lessons for children. Analyses of the data collected from these 680 teachers showed : 1) They started to teach English not because of educational considerations but because of pressure from children's parents or kindergarten principals; 2) Most of the English teachers were part-time instructors specially recruited for English lessons. Generally, English lessons were given two or three times a week, with one session lasting for about 20 minutes. A variety of teaching methods and materials were used for the lessons given to children aged three to five. Focus of the lessons was given to listening and speaking words and sentences; 3) Most of the teachers considered the scarcity of qualified English instructors as the most serious problem for providing English education in kindergartens, and they did not want to teach English themselves. They evaluated positively the performance and role of Korean part-time English instructors. The evaluations were generally poor as to native speakers serving as kindergarten English teachers.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the occurrence and possible risk factors of enterobiasis among children in kindergartens. Methods: A total of 3,921 children were examined from 36 kindergartens in Ulsan, Korea. The parents were asked to complete questionnaires and to detect Enterobius vermicularis infection using the anal swab technique. Results: The overall rate of being positive for E. vermicularis egg was 7.8% ranged from 0 to 29.0%. The infection rate was related to age, gender, thumb sucking, pre-medication of anthelmintics, employment status of mother and number of siblings. The risk factors significantly associated with E. vermicularis infection were gender(OR 1.628), thumb sucking(OR 1.643), pre-medication of anthelmintics(OR 0.614), employment status of mother(OR 0.574) and number of siblings(OR 0.388). Conclusion: We propose that E. vermicularis infection screening among children in kindergartens should be continued on a regular basis. In addition, more intensive control program should be developed and applied to children.

  • Communication through smartphones is creating a new paradigm of mobile communication beyond the restrictions of mobility and space. The mobile instant messengers of the smartphone, which began on the desktop environment, are providing various communication features, including multimedia contents, texts, and voice. Kindergartens and nurseries are using Websites, phones, SMS, printed materials, handwritten notifications, etc. to communicate with the parents. IsPlus was developed to facilitate the communication between the parents and the teachers, including exchanges of pictures and videos, chatting, and attendance management using smartphones. This is meaningful in that it is an early smartphone mobile messenger for educational institutions for infants and preschoolers. This study presented a new approach to the development of a mobile messenger for a specific group of users by analyzing the user environment, communication types, application planning process and interface design development using storytelling.

(1) Collectivism was positively associated with deep acting in emotion labor but not with surface acting. (2) Organizational commitment was positively associated with deep acting in emotion labor but not with surface acting. (3) Collectivism operated as a main effect with organizational commitment being observed to increase as collectivism increased. In addition, interaction effects of deep acting in emotion labor and collectivism on organizational commitment were observed, however, no interaction effects were seen in term of surface acting in emotion labor and collectivism on organizational commitment.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the operation and personal information management of public and private kindergarten homepages. Methods: A total of 2,846 kindergartens were selected from the I-Sarang portal service for analyzing operation, and 217 self-operating homepages were selected for evaluating management. Seven evaluation items from three domains (information gathering procedures and scope, information security, and management of file exposure protection) were used. Wireshark and Google were used for analyzing some evaluation items. Results: The operating ratio of kindergarten homepages was low and most of the kindergartens self-operated their homepages. The evaluation of the information gathering procedures and scope showed that the rule of consent process was not rigidly followed but that the rule of legality for information gathering was followed. Items related to information security were followed at very low levels. As for the management of file exposure protection, the evaluation of items related to the prevention of attachment disclosure showed that the rule of protecting personal information included in an attached file was followed but that the notice regarding information protection was not. Across all evaluation items, the level of personal information management was higher in public (vs. private) kindergartens. Conclusion: These results indicate methods to more securely and effectively manage personal information on kindergarten homepages.

  • The purpose of this study is to help create environments for early childhood education according to the principles of Constructivism. Generally, preschools in Ulsan Metropolitan City were used as samples for this study More particularly, 116 kindergartens were surveyed by telephone to evaluate their education programs. Four kindergartens that completely or partially used Constructivism in their programs were chosen as primary subjects for this study The results of this study were as follows: First, it was discovered that preschool education in Ulsan uses an integrated education model based on activities and Montessorie. Constructivist programs were also present using Project Approach, Reggio Emilia and Piaget. Second, the number of infants per class averaged 29.3. The average infants per playroom was 2.38$m^2$. It seems, therefore, that there is a lack of sufficient space for activities. Playroom furniture is primarily used for storage and it lacks variety and flexibility of use. The interior of preschools in related to materials, color and images also showed little difference among schools. Third, it was found that virtually every play space did not have adequate water playing and sand playing sections. Instead, the space for the large-muscle activities of big groups was used for this purpose. Fourth, kindergartens that use the principles of Constructivism plan to specialize their activities. Those only partially using Constructivism showed conventional tendencies and small play spaces that would be defined as inadequate according to Constructivism. This study, therefore, demonstrates that preschool education based on Constructivism are not being well-implemented in concert with other programs.

  • This study investigated the relation between oral counting and numerical abilities of young children. The subjects were 33 four-year-old children and 47 five-year-old children from 2 preschools and 2 kindergartens in Kwangju. The test was individually administered in an empty classroom or a hallway by using counting buttons and number cards. The data were analyzed by t-test, Pearsons correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that (1) older children did better than younger children in oral counting. (2) but the older children did not do better than the younger children in the numerical abilities, (3) the numerical abilities of young children differed according to the degree of oral counting, and (4) the oral counting of young children was one significant predictor of numerical abilities. Findings support the inclusion of activities for oral counting in kindergartens.
