New Scan Design for Delay Fault Testing of Sequential Circuits (순차 회로의 지연 고장 검출을 위한 새로운 스캔 설계)

  • Delay testing has become highlighted in the field of digital circuits as the speed and the density of the circuits improve greatly. However, delay faults in sequential circuits cannot be detected easily due to the existence of state registers. To overcome this difficulty a new scan filp-flop is devised which can be used for both stuck-at testing and delay testing. In addition, the new scan flip-flop can be applied to both the existing functional justification method and the newly-developed reverse functional justification method which uses scan flip-flops as storing the second test patterns rather than the first test patterns. Experimental results on ISCAS 89 benchmark circuits show that the number of testable paths can be increased by about 10% on the average.

Quasi-Likelihood Approach for Linear Models with Censored Data

  • The parameters in linear models with censored normal responses are usually estimated by the iterative maximum likelihood and least square methods. However, the iterative least square method is simple but hardly has theoretical justification, and the iterative maximum likelihood estimating equations are complicatedly derived. In this paper, we justify these methods via Wedderburn (1974)'s quasi-likelihood approach. This provides an explicit justification for the iterative least square method and also directly the iterative maximum likelihood method for estimating the regression coefficients.

Factor Analysis and Intergroup Awareness Investigation of Workers' Safety in Logistic Center (물류센터 근로자의 안전인식에 대한 요인분석 및 집단간 인식 비교)

  • This study is to examine the workers' awareness of the safety in logistic centers. For that purpose, the exploratory factor analysis of workers' safety awareness in logistic centers was performed at first, and the 6 variables extracted from the factor analysis were then used to investigate the difference in intergroup awareness of the safety environment in the logistic centers. We administered a survey to 147 workers attending the logistic centers and collected data from them. The results of the study showed that the intergroup awareness of the safety environment turned out to be statistically different from each other in terms of working environment, safe behavior, work risk, safety knowledge and effort, risk justification and compromising attitudes. Experiences in industrial accidents influenced awareness of working environment, work risk and risk justification. The group who experienced accidents is more likely to feel risky and unsatisfied with working place, and their awareness toward risk justification was high as well. It was also observed that there exists awareness difference between manager group and worker group. The group who manages the working place showed more positive awareness of working environment, safe behavior, work risk, safety knowledge and effort, risk justification and compromising attitudes than the worker group. On the contrary, the worker group showed high recognition in risk of working place, and felt that they are willing to compromise on safety for increasing production. The scale of the logistic center produced negative influence on awareness of safety. The group in small logistic center showed the highest awareness in safety, whereas the group in large logistic center with more than 100 workers showed the highest awareness in risk. They are more likely to deviate from correct and safe work procedures due to over-familiarity with the job, as well. The findings suggest that there is a need for the safety management and education to change the workers' understanding and attitudes towards safety.

Comparative Analysis of Generalization and Justification of the Mathematically Gifted 6th Graders by Learning Styles (초등학교 6학년 수학영재학생들의 학습유형에 따른 일반화 및 정당화 비교 분석)

  • This study aims to analyze mathematically gifted students' characteristics of generalization and justification for a given mathematical task and induce didactical implications for individual teaching methods by students' learning styles. To do this, we identified the learning styles of three mathematically gifted 6th graders and observed their processes in solving a given problem. Paper-pencil environment as well as dynamic geometrical environment using Geogebra were provided for three students respectively. We collected and analyzed qualitatively the research data such as the students' activity sheets, the students' records in Geogebra, our observation reports about the processes of generalization and justification, and the records of interview. The results of analysis show that the types of the students' generalization are various while the level of their justifications is identical. Futhermore, their preference of learning environment is also distinguished. Based on the results of analysis, we induced some implications for individual teaching for mathematically gifted students by learning styles.

Mathematical Discovery and Justification through Modeling Activity in Spreadsheet Environment (스프레드시트 환경에서 모델링 활동을 통한 수학적 발견과 정당화)

  • The Purpose of this study is to explore he mathematical discovery and justification of six 10th grade students through mathematical modeling activities in spreadsheet environments. The students investigated problem situations with a spreadsheet, which seem to be difficult to solve in paper and pencil environment. In spreadsheet environments, it is easy for students to form a data table and graph by inputting and copying spreadsheet formulas, and to make change specific variable by making a scroll bar. In this study those functions of spreadsheet play an important role in discovery and justification of mathematical rules which underlie in the problem situations. In modeling activities, the students could solve the problem situations and find the mathematical rules by using those functions of spreadsheets. They used two types of trial and error strategies to find the rules. The first type was to insert rows between two adjacent rows and the second was to make scroll bars connecting specific variable and change the variable by moving he scroll bars. The spreadsheet environments also help students to justify their findings deductively and convince them that their findings are true by checking various cases of the Problem situations.

  • Human experts have the various own knowledges to be applied in specialized domains. The fact that knowledge itself becomes more critical in the context of textile knowledge with rapid development of new fibers, automated equipments, processes and applications. Diversity of worsted spun yarns, lack of human expertise, and inconsistency among manually generated process plans in consequency of adjustment machine parameters owing to change up raw materials frequently increase the necessity of developing computer aided process planning(CAPP) systems for spinning process. Expert systems offer one of techniques to develop CAPP systems which would behave in a knowledgeable manner. Expert systems are the problem-solving computer program that can reach a level of performance comparable to that of a human expert in some specialized problem domain. This paper is described as job justification module. The job justification module performs to consult with users on which worsted spun yarn manufacturing process planning under the various factors, e.g., raw materials, machine parameters and required yarn counts. Also, the developed module informs the various knowledges relevant process planning. The job justification module offers the control parameters at each process and includes the various standard process plans as database. These knowledges are generated by facts and rules within rule bases.

Middle School Mathematics Teachers' Responses to a Student's Mistaken Mathematical Conjecture and Justification

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the reality of middle school mathematics teachers' subject matter knowledge for teaching mathematical conjecture and justification. Data in the study were collected through interviewing nine Chinese and ten Korean middle school mathematics teachers. The teachers responded to the question that was designed in the form of a scenario that presents a teaching task related to a geometrical topic. The teachers' oral responses were audiotaped and transcribed, and their written notes were collected. The results of the study were compared to the analysis of American and Chinese elementary and secondary teachers' responses to the same task in Ball (1988) and Ma (1999). The findings of the study suggested that teachers' approaches to explaining and demonstrating a mathematical topic were significantly influenced by their knowledge of learners and knowledge of the curriculum they teach. One of the practical implications of the study is that teachers should recognize the advantages of learning the conceptual structure of a mathematical topic. It allows the teachers to have the flexibility to come up with meaningful mathematical approaches to teaching the topic, which are comprehensible to the learners whatever the grade levels they teach, rather than rule-based algorithms.
