The current and ethnic issues represented in child-rearing practices of Korean-Chinese families in YanBian, China, were studied with the participation of 7 primary caregivers (4 mothers and 3 grandmothers) of young children who were interviewed and observed in their homes. Current issues were categorized as competitive bilingual ability, expectations about third language learning (English), expectations of high academic accomplishment and early education, and economic challenges in parenting. Ethnicity issues included ethnic pride as Korean-Chinese, conflicts of ethnic education, participation in local Korean culture, and rearing the child to have the self-expressive and assertive characteristics of typical Korean children. Results were discussed in terms of understanding and supporting child-rearing of minorities and families with multi-cultural background.

International investment has been gaining the importance in the economic growth, employment and technological spillover for many countries at the time of unrestrained flow of the production resources, inter alia, the capital. International investment is prerequisite for Korea to overcome its resource-scarcity. This paper studied some contentious issues of international investment and attempted to suggest negotiating position for Korea on future FTAs. We have made theoretical research of the issues and derived common denominators from four previous FTAs which Korea has concluded. Based on both theories and evidences, we suggest that Korea be ready to have more open attitude for incoming international investment, that is, foreign direct investment(FDI) in future FTA negotiations although Korea should have rather flexible strategy on international investment issues, on the basis of the reciprocity.

In the last thirty years, societal changes have affected Korean families at a fast pace. Some of these changes include the fall of childbirth rate, expansion of women in the workforce, delay of first marriages, and rise of divorces, remarriages, and international marriages. These new trends have created and diversified new contexts for family structures and parent-child relationships. Both parents and children are now confronted with a myriad of new challenges and in need of understanding the newly transformed-family environments in respond to new ecological pressures. Contemporary issues concerning parent-child relationships are discussed by analyzing the new trends and research issues on particular social issues and pressures. Future policy issues are discussed based on these analyses combined with the critical impact of the parent-child relationships on child development.

In the recent years, there has been a remarkable growth in the popularity of health education and health promotion. Health educators are increasingly confronting serious ethical quandars. Health educators need to be fully prepared to meet the challenges presented by these situations. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1. It explores some fundamental concepts concerning ethics, morals, and values. 2. It identifies several critical ethical issues confronting the field of health education with which individual health educators must wrestle during the course of their careers. 3. It examines the process of applying ethical principles to guide rational resolution of complex value-laden issues and moral dilemmas. 4. Collectively, these provide health educators with a basic understanding of ethics and how ethics may be used to facilitate sound decision making. This study challenges health educators to consider the ethical issues and implications associated with certain practices or advances in the field of education.

Levelized generation cost(LGC) has been widely used in assessing feed-in tariffs(FiT) for electricity generating from new and renewable energies. Current FiTs for renewable electricity in Korea have been fixed and applied with realistic economic data by the efforts of KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute) since October 2006. Some critical issues on the estimation of LGC are, however, found in KERI's report. Major issues are the estimation of capital cost, the consideration of corporate tax, and the application of economic life cycle in the formulae for LGC. These critical issues are examined and interpreted in a correct way in this paper.

Quality function deployment (QFD) provides a specific approach for ensuring quality throughout each stage of the product development and production process. Since the focus of QFD is placed on the early stage of product development, the uncertainty in the input information of QFD is inevitable. If the uncertainty is neglected, the QFD analysis results are likely to be misleading. It is necessary to equip practitioners with a new QFD methodology that can model, analyze, and dampen the effects of the uncertainty and variability in a systematic manner. Robust QFD is an extended version of QFD methodology, which is robust to the uncertainty of the input information and the resulting variability of the QFD output. This paper discusses recent research issues in Robust QFD. The major issues are related with the determination of overall priority, robustness evaluation, robust prioritization, and web-based Robust QFD optimizer. Our recent research results on the issues are presented, and some of future research topics are suggested.

An early detection system for warranty issues periodically collects customers' claim data and automatically reports alarms about emerging issues based on statistical algorithms. It helps companies to reduce an issue definition time and save the handling cost of warranty claims. This paper provides an evaluation framework to validate the economic effect of an early detection system project. For this purpose, we present economical index of a project with explicit formulas such as ROI(return on investment), PP(payback period), NPV(net present value), PI(profitability index) and IRR(internal rate of return) and analyze the sensitivities of the index according to the variation of project input parameters. The proposed analysis framework is expected to be used for evaluating economic values of various system integration projects.

Time series are used in many studies for model building and analysis. We must be very careful to understand the kind of time series data used in the analysis. In this review article, we will begin with some issues related to the use of aggregate and systematic sampling time series. Since several time series are often used in a study of the relationship of variables, we will also consider vector time series modeling and analysis. Although the basic procedures of model building between univariate time series and vector time series are the same, there are some important phenomena which are unique to vector time series. Therefore, we will also discuss some issues related to vector time models. Understanding these issues is important when we use time series data in modeling and analysis, regardless of whether it is a univariate or multivariate time series.

Automatic text classification has a long history and many studies have been conducted in this field. In particular, many machine learning algorithms and information retrieval techniques have been applied to text classification tasks. Even though much technical progress has been made in text classification, there is still room for improvement in text classification. In this paper, we will discuss remaining issues in improving text classification. In this paper, three improvement issues are presented including automatic training data generation, noisy data treatment and term weighting and indexing, and four actual studies and their empirical results for those issues are introduced. First, the semi-supervised learning technique is applied to text classification to efficiently create training data. For effective noisy data treatment, a noisy data reduction method and a robust text classifier from noisy data are developed as a solution. Finally, the term weighting and indexing technique is revised by reflecting the importance of sentences into term weight calculation using summarization techniques.

The inter-korean trade volume has increased since 1989 and it reached 724million dollars in 2003. In a quantitative respect, it has grown 38 times last year compare to in 1989 but there are several problems in a qualitatively respect. First, take-in(import) with disguised origin raise a serious problem in the korea market. Second, products with made in DPRK will have difficulties to export in overseas markets. Last, take-out(export) of some product is also difficult because of catch-all issues etc. The purpose of this paper is raise a question in argument about inter-korea trade issues and hope to be studied by many brilliant scholars. We also need to understand about inter-korea trade issues and our special conditions which are a divided country.
