  • 13C, 15N, and 29Si NMR chemical shifts have been computed for selected X-substituted silatranes (X=Cl, F, H, CH3) using Gauge-Including Atomic Orbitals (GIAO) and Continuous Set of Gauge Transformations (CSGT) at the Hartree-Fock level of theory. The isotropic 13C chemical shifts are largely insensitive to substituent-induced structural changes. In this study, the isotropic 13C chemical shifts GIAO and CSGT calculations at the HF/6-31G and HF/6-31G* levels are sufficiently accurate to aid in experimental peak assignments. The isotropic 13C chemical shifts X-substituted silatranes at HF/6-31G* level are approximately 4 ppm different from the experimental values. In contrast, the isotropic 15N and 29Si chemical shifts and the chemical shielding tensors are quite sensitive to substituent-induced structural changes. These trends are consistent with those of the experiment. The 15N chemical shift parameters demonstrate a very clear correlation with Si-N distance, especially when we use the polarization function. Changes in anisotropy, 3a as well as in the 15N isotropic chemical shifts are due primarily to changes in the value of a.. But in case of "Si the correlations are not as clean as for the 15N chemical shift.

  • In present study, a novel refined hyperbolic shear deformation theory is proposed for the buckling analysis of thick isotropic plates. The new displacement field is constructed with only two unknowns, as against three or more in other higher order shear deformation theories. However, the hyperbolic sine function is assigned according to the shearing stress distribution across the plate thickness, and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using any shear correction factors. The equations of motion associated with the present theory are obtained using the principle of virtual work. The analytical solution of the buckling of simply supported plates subjected to uniaxial and biaxial loading conditions was obtained using the Navier method. The critical buckling load results for thick isotropic square plates are compared with various available results in the literature given by other theories. From the present analysis, it can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the buckling response of isotropic plates.

  • In this research, an efficient mixed mode I/II fracture criterion is developed for fracture investigation of orthotropic materials wherein crack is placed along the fibers. This criterion is developed based on extension of well-known Maximum Tensile Stress (MTS) criterion in conjunction with a novel material model titled as Equivalent Reinforced Isotropic Model (ERIM). In this model, orthotropic material is replaced with an isotropic matrix reinforced with fibers. A comparison between available experimental observations and theoretical estimation implies on capability of developed criterion for predicting both crack propagation direction and fracture instance, wherein the achieved fracture limit curves are also compatible with fracture mechanism of orthotic materials. It is also shown that unlike isotropic materials, fracture toughness of orthotic materials in mode $I(K)_{IC}{\mid})$ cannot be introduced as the maximum load bearing capacity and thus new fracture mechanics property, named here as maximum orthotropic fracture toughness in mode $I(K_{IC}{\mid}^{ortho}_{max})$ is defined. Optimum angle between crack and fiber direction for maximum load bearing in orthotropic materials is also defined.

  • In this paper, the interfacial stress intensity factors( $K_{i}$$K_1$+i $K_2$) for the edge interface crack in the dissimilar materials(isotropic-isotropic materials, isotropic-composite materials) were analysed by BEM(Boundary Element Method). The fatigue crack growth behaviour was investigated by load constant fatigue test. From the experimental results, the relationship between da/dN and interfacial stress intensity facto, ( $K_{i}$ or $K_1$) can be expressed by Paris'law for homogeneous materials.s.s.

  • For transversely isotropic rocks such as schist, shale, etc, a method to determine the anisotropic elastic constants was proposed. Theoretically, equations of elastic constants E1, E2, and G2 can be derived from the measured strains in arbitrary three directions. If we attach three strain gages in accordance with the directons of anisotropy on the rock specimen under uni-axial compression, anisotropic elastic constants can be determined by these equations. With this method, the degree of anisotropy of transversely isotropic rocks will be easily evaluated by simple laboratory test.

  • Null designs on the poset of dual polar spaces are considered. A poset of dual polar spaces is the set of isotropic subspaces of a finite vector space equipped with a nondegenerate bilinear form, ordered by inclusion. We show that the minimum number of isotropic subspaces to construct a nonzero null t-design is ${\prod}^{t}_{i=0}(1+q^{i})$ for the types $B_N,\;D_N$, whereas for the case of type $C_N$, more isotropic subspaces are needed.
