  • In this paper, we introduce a new technology to extract the unique features from an iris image, which uses scale-space filtering. Resulting iris code can be used to develop a system for rapid and automatic identification of persons, with high reliability and confidence levels. First, an iris part is separated from the whole image. Then the radius and center of the iris are obtained. Once the regions that have a high possibility of being noise are discriminated, the features presented in the highly detailed pattern is then extracted from the iris image. Scale-space filtering technique is applied for feature extraction.

  • The coat protein gene of iris severe mosaic potyvirus, which was isolated in Korea, ISMV-K, from iris plant was cloned and its nucleotide sequence was determined. The coat protein of the virus contained 252 amino acid residues, including five potential N-glyxosylation site motifs. The coat protein of ISMV-K has 99.1% and 98.4% sequence identities with those of the Netherlands isolate of ISMV (ISMV-Ne) form crocus for the nucleotide and amino acids, respectively. The coat protein of ISMV-K has 50.4% to 60.3% nucleotide sequence identities and 47.3% to 55.7% amino acid identities with those of other 21 potyviruses, indicating ISMV to be a distinct species of the genus. The coat protein of ISMV-K was closely related with bean yellow mosaic virus and clover yellow vein virus in the phylogenetic tree analysis among the potyviruses analyzed. ISMV was easily and reliably detected from virus-infected iris leaves by RT-PCR with a set of the virus-specific primers.

  • The iris, a biometric information, is safe, unique, and reliable, such as fingerprints, and is personal information that can significantly lower the misrecognition rate than other biometric authentication. However, due to the nature of biometric authentication, it is impossible to replace it if it is stolen. There is a case in which an actual iris photo is taken and 3d printed so that the eyes work as if they were in front of the camera. As such, there is a possibility of iris leakage through high-definition images and photos. In this paper, we propose to improve iris masking performance by supplementing iris region masking research based on existing blurring techniques. Based on the results derived in this study, it is expected that it can be used for the security of video conference programs and electronic devices.

  • An arbitrary shaped iris in rectangular waveguideis investigated using FEM-CDMA with triangularprism elements in this paper. The volume of irisis subdivided into a relatively small number of triangular prism elements and FEM is used to formulate the field distribution. On the other hand, the fields in the waveguide region are represented by BIM derived from the waveguide Green's function and boundary conditions. The proposed method is verified through the design and experiment for the circular iris filter using WR-90 waveguide.

  • Objectives : In the unique metal iris method. the developing interfacial gap at the cavity floor resulting from the cavity wall property during polymerizing composite resin might affect the nominal shear bond strength values. The aim of this study is to evaluate that the iris method reduces the cohesive failure in the substrates and the cavity wall property effects on the shear bond strength tests using iris method. Materials and Methods : The occlusal dentin of 64 extracted human molars were randomly divided into 4 groups to simulate two different levels of cavity wall property (metal and dentin iris) and two different materials ($ONE-STEP^{\circledR}$ and $ALL-BOND^{\circledR}$ 2) for each wall property. After positioning the iris on the dentin surface. composite resin was packed and light-cured. After 24 hours the shear bond strength was measured at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Fracture analysis was performed using a microscope and SEM. The data was analyzed statistically by a two-way ANOV A and t-test. Results : The shear bond strength with metal iris was significant higher than those with dentin iris (p=0.034). Using $ONE-STEP^{\circledR}$, the shear bond strength with metal iris was significant higher than those with dentin iris (p=0.005), but not in $ALL-BOND^{\circledR}$ 2 (p=0.774). The incidence of cohesive failure was very lower than other shear bond strength tests that did not use iris method. Conclusions:The iris method may significantly reduce the cohesive failures in the substrates. According to the bonding agent systems. the shear bond strength was affected by the cavity wall property.

  • Molecular phylogenetic studies were conducted to evaluate taxonomic identities and relationships among 16 species of the korean genus Iris L. Korean Iris was grouped by five clades. Series Laevigatae, Tripetalae, Laevigatae and Sibiricae was included to Clade I. Series Chinensis, and Easatae was composed to Clade II. Series Chinensis was included to Clade III. Series Chinensis was composed to Clade IV. Series Crossiris, Pumilae and Pardanthopsis was included to Clade V. Iris dichotoma, I. mandshurica and I. tectorum formed one clade, and it was located mostly in the basal group. I. minutiaurea and I. koreana was not formed independent clade, so it is not clear between them about taxonomic identities. Iris tectorum was established taxonomic system by Series Cossiris in Subgenus Crossiris. Series Chinensis (I. odaesanensis, I. minutiaurea, I. koreana, I. rossii var. latifoia, and I. rossii) was distinguished is clear by Series Chinensis (I. odaesanensis, I. minutiaurea and I. koreana) and Series Chinensis (I. rossii var. latifoia and I. rossii). The Genus Iris was divided into four subgenus (Limniris, Crossiris, Iris and Pardanthopsis). We thought that evolved to subgenus Limniris in subgenus Crossiris, iris and Pardanthopsis.

  • In this study, a field applicability of reboiler tube was evaluated by comparing ECT signal with IRIS signal about wall loss rate and remaining wall thickness using worked austenite STS 316L ASME standard calibration tube. In the case of wall-loss rate, as a result, tolerance about $20%{\times}4$ flat bottom hole and 10% O D groove(ECT), 80% defect and 10% O D groove(IRIS) occurred up to ${\pm}15%$. In the case of remaining wall thickness, ECT was satisfied with the both tolerance, but tolerance about 80% defect occurred up to ${\pm}15%$ in IRIS. Therefore, if the IRIS is performed for interpretation of non-relevant indication and measurement of wall-loss rate after ECT, reliability is supposed to be improved.

  • In this paper, we propose a feature extraction method for iris recognition using wavelet transforms. The wavelet transform is fast and has a good localization characteristic. In particular, the low frequency band can be used as an effective feature vector. In iris recognition, the noise caused by eyelid the eyebrow, glint, etc may be included in iris. The iris pattern is distorted by noises by itself, and a feature extraction algorithm based on filter such as Wavelets, Gabor transform spreads noises into whole iris region. Namely, such noises degrade the performance of iris recognition systems a major problem. This kind of noise has adverse effect on performance. In order to solve these problems, we propose to divide the iris image into a number of sub-region and apply the wavelet transform to each sub-region. Experimental results show that the performance of proposed method is comparable to existing methods using Gabor transform and region division noticeably improves recognition performance. However, it is noted that the processing time of the wavelet transform is much faster than that of the existing methods.

  • A study was under taken to investigate the appropriate explant sources of flower organ and suitable cultural conditions such as light, temperature, and sucrose in plant regeneration of Iris ensata culture. Explants of perianth, ovary, pedicel, and peduncle of Iris ensata were cultured at different daylength (0, 8, 16, 24 hour), different temperatures (10, 15, 25, 3$0^{\circ}C$), and sucrose concentrations (1, 3, 6, 9%) on MS medium. Formation of adventitious roots from explants of Iris ensata was effective in the dark, while that of adventitous shoots was effective in the light. The optimum daylength for young plant regeneration was 16 hours. The optimum temperature for shoot formation of Iris ensata explants was $25^{\circ}C$ but the formation at 10 and 15$^{\circ}C$ was ineffective. Especi-ally, perianth and ovary was effective in shoot formation from flower organ expants. T-he optimum concentration of sucrose for shoots and roots formation of Iris ensata explants was 3 and 6%, respectively.
