자궁강내 근접방사선조사시 인체조직등가 팬톰을 이용한 방사선량 측정 (Measurement of Radiation Using Tissue Equivalent Phantom in ICR Treatment)

  • 자궁경부암환자에서 자궁강내 근접 방사선조사시 선원 배열에 따른 선량분포와 임상적으로 중요한 표식점인 A 및 B점 선량값에 대한 정확성을 평가하기 위하여 조직등가 팬톰을 제작하고 필름선량계측법을 적용하여 측정한 후, 이를 along-away에 의한 계산과 전산화치료계획장치에 의한 값과 비교 분석하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 자궁강내 근접 방사선조사시 치료상태를 그대로 묘사할 수 있게 아크릴과 물을 이용하여, 인체조직등가 팬톰을 제작한 후 자궁경부암의 자궁강내 근접 방사선조사를 시행하는 것과 똑같이 Fletcher-Suit-Delclos applicator 를 삽입하였다. Tandem 에 $15.7mg\;Ra-eq$의 방사능을 가진 $^{137}Cs$ tube를 2cm 간격으로 3개 주입한 후, A점에 해당되는 단면에 수직방향과 평행방향으로 각각 필름을 팬톰 간극에 삽입하였고, 또한 팬톰표면의 방사선량분포측정을 위하여 팬톰표면을 필름으로 감싸서, 1시간 조사하였다. 필름에 현상된 음영을 필름농도계를 이용하여 농도분포를 측정하여, A점에 대한 방사선량을 환산하였고, 전체적인 선량분포도를 얻었다. 이러한 측정값과 전산화치료계획장치를 이용하여 얻은 A점 값, along-away 표에 의한 A점 선량을 비교하였고, 필름에 의한 선량분포와 컴퓨터에 의한 선량분포를 서로 비교하였다. 결과 : A점에 대한 필름 측정치는 시간당 51.2cGy였고, 전산화치료계획장치에 의한 계산값은 시간당 46.7cGy, along-away 표에 의한 값은 시간당 47.9 cGy여서 약 10% 이내로 비교적 일치하였다. 필름을 계측하여 얻은 선량분포와 전산화치료계획장치의 계산에 의한 선량분포는 비슷한 모습을 보여 주었다. 결른 : 본 연구에서 아크릴과 물을 이용하여, 간단하고 경제적인 방법으로 인체조직등가팬톰을 제작할 수 있었고, 이러한 간단한 팬톰을 이용하여 비교적 효과적으로 자궁강내 근접 방사선조사시 사용하는 밀봉선원인 $^{137}Cs$ tube 의 선량에 대한 품질검사는 물론, 전산화치료계획장치를 이용한 값과 이론적인 식을 바탕으로 수작업으로 계산한 값, 그리고 실험으로부터 구한 실측값을 비교 검토함으로써 치료계획의 신뢰성을 확인할 수 있었다.

BALB/c 마우스에서 감마선 조사로 유도된 조직 손상과 산화적 스트레스에 대한 헤스페레틴 투여 후의 방사선방호 효과 (Radioprotective Effects of Post-Treatment with Hesperetin against γ-Irradiation-Induced Tissue Damage and Oxidative Stress in BALB/c Mice)

  • 본 연구는 BALB/c 마우스에 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴과 헤스페리딘을 7일 동안 경구투여하여 감마선 조사로 유도된 조직 손상과 산화적 스트레스에 대한 회복 효과를 검토하였다. 감마선 조사 7일 후의 체중 변화에서 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴을 투여한 군이 감마선 조사군에 비해 유의적으로 증가하여 회복됨을 보여주었다. 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴을 투여한 군의 비장 지수는 감마선 조사군에 비해 유의적으로 증가하여 조혈면역계의 손상에 대해 치료 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴을 50 mg/kg 투여한 군의 ALT와 AST가 감마선 조사군에 비해 유의적으로 감소하여 간세포 손상에 대해 치료 효과를 확인하였다. 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴을 투여한 군의 지질과산화는 감마선 조사군에 비해 유의적으로 낮게 나타남을 보여 방사선에 의한 장해를 회복시킨 것으로 판단된다. 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴을 50 mg/kg 투여한 군의 XO는 감마선 조사군에 비해 유의적으로 감소하였다. 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴을 투여한 군의 GSH는 감마선 조사군에 비해 유의적으로 증가하여 생체 내 항산화 방어 체계를 정상 범위로 회복시켰다. 감마선 조사 후 헤스페레틴을 25 mg/kg 투여한 군의 항산화 효소의 활성이 감마선 조사군에 비해 유의적으로 증가하여 방어체계를 회복시켰다. 이상의 결과를 통해 방사선 조사후 헤스페레틴의 투여가 방사선에 의한 조혈계 및 간세포 손상과 산화적 스트레스에 대해 회복 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서 헤스페레틴은 방사선 노출에 있어서 방사선방호제로서 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Revealing the complexity of ionized gas outflows in powerful Type 2 AGN in the local Universe

  • There exist scaling relations that link the mass of supermassive black holes with both the velocity dispersion and the mass of the central stellar cusp of their host galaxies. This implies that these two components grow in tandem. Feedback from actively accreting supermassive black holes (AGN), in the form of multi-phase gas outflows, has been argued to be the agent of this co-evolution. Here we employ the powerful GMOS integral field spectroscopy unit on the 8.2m Gemini-North telescope to investigate ionized gas outflows of luminous Type 2 AGN in the local Universe (z<0.1). Our sample of 6 galaxies is drawn from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and was selected based on their [OIII] dust-corrected luminosity (>1042 erg/s) and signatures of outflows in the [OIII] line profile of their spatially integrated SDSS spectra. These are arguably the best candidates to explore AGN feedback in action since they are < 1% of a large local type 2 AGN SDSS sample selected based on their [OIII] kinematics. We combine a careful spectral decomposition of the [OIII] and $H{\alpha}$ line profiles with spatial information on ~0.5kpc scales to understand the outflow kinematics and energetics in these objects. We find clear evidence for strong outflows in [OIII] and occasionally $H{\alpha}$ that are clearly driven by the ionizing radiation of the AGN. We kinematically and spatially decompose outflowing and rotating ionized gas components. We find [OIII] to be a better tracer of AGN outflows, while $H{\alpha}$ appears to be strongly affected by both stellar rotation and outflows induced by ongoing star formation. The observed kinematics and spatial distribution of the ionized gas imply a large opening angle for the outflow. Finally, we find the projected outflow velocity to decrease as a function of distance, while its dispersion shows a more complex structure with a potentially initially increasing trend (out to 0.5-1kpc distances).

비파괴 초음파 검사법의 의학적 활용: 초음파 C 스캔 영상을 이용한 미세 골절의 진단 (Medical Application of the Nondestructive Ultrasonic Tests: Diagnosis of Micro Bone Fractures using Ultrasonic C Scan Images)

  • 비전리 방사선을 이용하는 초음파 탐상법은 안전하며 사용이 간편하기 때문에 비파괴검사에서 매우 선호되고 있는 방법이다. 의학적으로 초음파 탐상법은 동일한 원리를 이용하여 인체의 결함 즉 질병의 진단을 위해 유용한 수단 요로 활용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 초음파 탐상법에 기반한 의료용 초음파 진단의 원리에 대해 개관하고, 그동안 임상적으로 별로 주목받지 못한 초음파 C스캔 영상을 이용한 치밀골의 미세 골절 진단 가능성을 실험적으로 평가하였다. 실험에서는 돼지 대퇴골에 3점 굽힘 힘 (2-4 kN)을 1 mm/min 속도로 가해 미세 골절을 유발하였다. 골절의 정도를 변화하면서 골절에 대한 엑스선 영상과 25 MHz 접속형 초음파 변환기롤 이용하여 C스캔 영상을 취득하였다. 실험 결과 초음파 C 스캔 영상은 기존의 골절 진단법인 엑스선 영상에서는 진단이 어려운 미세한 골절까지 감지할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Effect of gamma irradiation on the morphological and physiological variation from In vitro individual shoot of banana cv. Tanduk (Musa spp.)

  • Inducing genetic and morphological variation through conventional method is very difficult. Therefore, mutation induction through in vitro technology brings numerous advantages over the conventional breeding. Thus, the individual shoots (1 ~ 2 cm) were irradiated with gamma rays (10 ~ 70 Gy). The result revealed that the explants treated with higher doses (40, 50, 60, and 70 Gy) showed deleterious effects of ionizing radiation. The highest survival rate among ${\gamma}$ treated explants recorded was 71% in 10 Gy treatments while the lowest survivality was 15% in 70 Gy. Lethal dose 50% ($LD_{50}$) dose was found to be 33 Gy. In the in vitro condition, rooting reponse showed that increase in gamma irradiation dose resulted in the inhibition of root growth. Meanwhile, non-treated explants had the best rooting ability with the maximum number of root per explant (20) within a short period of time (6 days), with the highest root length of (15.1 cm). The longer period in rooting (12 days) and lowest number of root per explant (8) with shortest root length (10.1 cm) were recorded at 30 Gy treatment. The highest shoot length (13.6 cm) was observed at control treatment and the shortest shoot length (10.4 cm) was observed at 30 Gy. In the nursery, lowest leaf number (5) was observed at 30 Gy compared with other treatments. The highest chlorophyll content (49.8) was recorded at 10 Gy treated seedling. Irradiated explants with 10 Gy found to be superior over the control treatment and had positive effects in main growth parameters such as chlorophyll content.

자기공명(M.R.)진단법의 특징 및 그 영상기전의 이해 (Characteristics of Magnetic Resonance(M.R.) and Comprehension of its Imaging Mechanism)

  • Magnetic Resonance (M.R.) is rapidly emerging technique that provides high quality images and potentially provides much more diagnostic information than do conventional imaging modalities. M.R.I. is conceptually quite different from currently used imaging methods. The complex nature of M.R.I. allows a great deal of flexibility in image product ion and available information, and key points are as follows. 1. M.R.I. offers a non-invasive technique with which to gene rate in vivo human images without ionizing radiation and with no known adverse biological effects. 2. Imaging mechanism of M.R.I. is quite different from conventional imaging modality and for more accurate diagnostic application, It is necessary for physician to understand imaging mechanism of M.R.I. 3. M.R. makes available basic chemical parameters that may provide to be useful for diagnostic medical imaging and more specific pathophysiologic information which are not available by alternate techniques. 4. M.R. can be produced by number of different methods. This flexibility allows the imaging technique to be applicated for particular clinical purpose. Multiplanar and three dimensional imaging may extend the imaging process beyond the single section available with current CT. 5. Future directions include efforts to; a. Further development of hard ware b. More fasternning scan time c. Respiratory and cardiac gated imaging d. Imaging of additional nuclei except hydrogen e. Further development of contrast media f. M.R. in vivo spectroscopy g. Real time M.R. imaging.

발아식품의 품질보존을 위한 전리방사선의 이용 (Utilization of Ionizing Radiation on the Preservation of Sprouting Foods)

  • 저장상 많은 문제점을 내포하고 있는 감자, 양파, 마늘 및 밤의 장기 저장법 개발을 목적으로 수확후 l개월 이내에 Co-60 감마선을 조사하고 냉동기를 가동하지 않은 자연저온 저장고에 각각 저장하였다. 저장중 시료의 발아는 감자가 150Gy, 양파 및 마늘이 50Gy 밤이 250 Gy의 선량으로 8~10개월간 거의 완전히 억제되었다. 감마선 조사에 따라 부패율은 상당히 감소되었으며, 중량감소에 있어서도 적정선량의 조사는 네가지 사료에서 6~24%의 감소 억제 효과를 나타내었다. 발아식품의 품질에 관여하는 성분인 수분, 당 및 비타민 C의 함량은 저장기간의 경과로 비조사구에 비해 조사구가 우수한 경향을 보였다. 따라서 이들 식품의 장기 안전저장을 위해서는 감자, 양파 및 마늘은 50~150 Gy, 밤은 250 Gy 정도의 감마선을 조사하고 자연저온저장고($10{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ R.H. 75~85%)에저장하는 것이 효과적인 방법임을 시사하였다.

Breast Imaging Using Electrical Impedance Tomography: Correlation of Quantitative Assessment with Visual Interpretation

  • Background: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a new non-invasive, mobile screening method which does not use ionizing radiation to the human breast; allows conducting quantitative assessment of the images besides the visual interpretation. The aim of this study was to correlate the quantitative assessment and visual interpretation of breast electrical impedance tomographs and associated factors. Materials and Methods: One hundred and fifty mammography patients above 40 years and undergoing EIT were chosen using convenient sampling. Visual interpretation of the images was carried out by a radiologist with minimum of three years experience using the breast imaging - electrical impedance (BI-EIM) classification for detection of abnormalities. A set of thirty blinded EIT images were reinterpreted to determine the intra-rater reliability using kappa. Quantitative assessment was by comparison of the breast average electric conductivity with the norm and correlations with visual interpretation of the images were determined using Chi-square. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the mean electrical conductivity between groups and t-test was used for comparisons with pre-existing Caucasians statistics. Independent t-tests were applied to compare the mean electrical conductivity of women with factors like exogenous hormone use and family history of breast cancer. Results: The mean electrical conductivity of Malaysian women was significantly lower than that of Caucasians (p<0.05). Quantitative assessment of electrical impedance tomography was significantly related with visual interpretation of images of the breast (p<0.05). Conclusions: Quantitative assessment of electrical impedance tomography images was significantly related with visual interpretation.

XRCC3 Thr241Met Gene Polymorphism and Risk of Colorectal Cancer in Kashmir: a Case Control Study

  • XRCC (X-ray cross-complementing group) genes contribute to important DNA repair mechanisms that play roles in the repair of single strand breaks (SSBs) induced by a variety of external and internal factors, including ionizing radiation, alkylating agents and reactive oxygen species. These repair genes have a pivotal role in maintaining genomic stability through different pathways of base excision repair (BER). The aim of this study was to investigate the XRCC3 Thr241Met gene polymorphism in colorectal cancer (CRC) in Kashmir. We investigated the genotype distribution of XRCC3 gene in 120 CRC cases in comparison with 150 healthy subjects and found a significant association between XRCC3 genotypes and CRC ($p{\leq}0.05$). Both heterozygous genotype (Thr/Met) as well as homozygous variant genotype (Met/Met) were moderately associated with elevated risk of CRC [OR=2.53; OR=2.29 respectively]. Also, Thr/Met and Met/Met genotypes demonstrated a significant association with the risk of CRC (p = 0.003). This study displayed a significantly elevated risk for CRC in individuals with XRCC3 Thr/Met and Met/Met Genotype of about 2.5 times that with the Thr/Thr wild genotype.

초음파를 활용한 회전근개 간격으로 접근한 견관절 주사법 (Ultrasound Guided Shoulder Joint Injection through Rotator Cuff Interval)

  • Background: Shoulder joint injection is currently performed under fluoroscopic or computed tomography scan guidance. We performed this study to determine if an ultrasound guided shoulder joint injection through rotator cuff interval would have clinical usefulness. Methods: A total of 17 volunteers [12 women, 5 men; mean age 28 yr (23-32 yr)] received shoulder joint injection under multilinear ultrasound (5-10 MHz). Volunteers were positioned supinely on a table with their arm in a neutral position. The anterior shoulder region of the patient was sterilized using povidone iodine. A 24 gauge needle was introduced and directly visualized in real time as it passed obliquely from the skin surface to the inferior space of the biceps tendon. If there was little or no resistance to the injection, a contrast media (omnipaque) was injected and checked fluoroscopically. Results: Ultrasound guided shoulder joint injection through rotator cuff interval was successful in all cases. The average time taken for the procedure was $27.5{\pm}16.5sec$. The vertical distance from skin to the inferior space of the biceps tendon was $1.6{\pm}0.4cm$ and the distance of needle from the skin to the inferior space of biceps tendon was $2.8{\pm}0.6cm$. The procedure was well tolerated by all volunteers. Conclusions: Ultrasound guided shoulder joint injection through rotator cuff interval is an effective, rapid, and easy-to-perform injection technique. Ultrasound guided injection enables exact needle placement and avoids the use of both ionizing radiation and iodinated contrast material.
