This paper reviews and assesses the analogy between the human immune system and network intrusion detection systems. The promising results from a growing number of proposed computer immune models for intrusion detection motivate this work. The paper begins by briefly introducing existing intrusion detection systems (IDS's). A set of general requirements for network-based IDS's and the design goals to satisfy these requirements are identified by a careful examination of the literature. An overview of the human immune system is presented and its salient features that can contribute to the design of competent network-based IDS's are analysed. The analysis shows that the coordinated actions of several sophisticated mechanisms of the human immune system satisfy all the identified design goals. Consequently, the paper concludes that the design of a novel network-based IDS based on the human immune system is promising for future network-based IDS's

As the Internet use explodes recently, the malicious attacks and hacking for a system connected to network occur frequently. For such reason, lots of intrusion detection system has been developed. Intrusion detection system has abilities to detect abnormal behavior and unknown intrusions also it can detect intrusions by using patterns studied from various penetration methods. Various algorithms are studying now such as the statistical method for detecting abnormal behavior, extracting abnormal behavior, and developing patterns that can be expected. Etc. This study using clustering of data mining and association rule analyzes detecting areas based on two models and helps design detection system which detecting abnormal behavior, unknown attack, misuse attack in a large network.

MANET has vulnerable structure on security owing to structural characteristics as follows. MANET consisted of moving nodes is that every nodes have to perform function of router. Every node has to provide reliable routing service in cooperation each other. These properties are caused by expose to various attacks. But, it is difficult that position of environment intrusion detection system is established, information is collected, and particularly attack is detected because of moving of nodes in MANET environment. It is not easy that important profile is constructed also. In this paper, conformal predictor - support vector machine(CP-SVM) based intrusion detection technique was proposed in order to do more accurate and efficient intrusion detection. In this study, IDS-agents calculate p value from collected packet and transmit to cluster head, and then other all cluster head have same value and detect abnormal behavior using the value. Cluster form of hierarchical structure was used to reduce consumption of nodes also. Effectiveness of proposed method was confirmed through experiment.
This paper describes intrusion detection rule management using mobile agents. Intrusion detection can be divided into anomaly detection and misuse detection. Misuse detection is best suited for reliably detecting known use patterns. Misuse detection systems can detect many or all known attack patterns, but they are of little use for as yet unknown attack methods. Therefore, the introduction of mobile agents to provide computational security by constantly moving around the Internet and propagating rules is presented as a solution to misuse detection. This work presents a new approach for detecting intrusions, in which mobile agent mechanisms are used for security rules propagation. To evaluate the proposed approach, we compared the workload data between a rules propagation method using a mobile agent and a conventional method. Also, we simulated a rules management using NS-2 (Network Simulator) with respect to time.

As the detection performance using deep learning and machine learning of the intrusion detection field has been verified, the cases of using it are increasing day by day. However, it is difficult to collect the data required for learning, and it is difficult to apply the machine learning performance to reality due to the imbalance of the collected data. Therefore, in this paper, A mixed sampling technique using t-SNE visualization for imbalanced data processing is proposed as a solution to this problem. To do this, separate fields according to characteristics for intrusion detection events, including payload. Extracts TF-IDF-based features for separated fields. After applying the mixed sampling technique based on the extracted features, a data set optimized for intrusion detection with imbalanced data is obtained through data visualization using t-SNE. Nine sampling techniques were applied through the open intrusion detection dataset CSIC2012, and it was verified that the proposed sampling technique improves detection performance through F-score and G-mean evaluation indicators.
The main function of the intrusion Detection System (IDS) usee to be more or less passive detection of the intrusion evidences, but recently it is developed with more diverse types and methodologies. Especially, it is required that the IDS should process large system audit data fast enough. Therefore the data mining or neural net algorithm is being focused on, since they could satisfy those situations. In this study, we first surveyed and analyzed the several recent intrusion trends and types. And then we designed and implemented an IDS using back-propagation algorithm of the neural net, which could provide more effective solution. The distinctive feature of our study could be stated as follows. First, we designed the system that allows both the Anomaly dection and the Misuse detection. Second, we carried out the intrusion analysis experiment by using the reliable KDD Cup ‘99 data, which would provide us similar results compared to the real data. Finally, we designed the system based on the object-oriented concept, which could adapt to the other algorithms easily.
Network-based IDS(Intrusion Detection System) gathers network packet data and analyzes them into attack or normal. They raise alarm when possible intrusion happens. But they often output a large amount of low-level of incomplete alert information. Consequently, a large amount of incomplete alert information that can be unmanageable and also be mixed with false alerts can prevent intrusion response systems and security administrator from adequately understanding and analyzing the state of network security, and initiating appropriate response in a timely fashion. So it is important for the security administrator to reduce the redundancy of alerts, integrate and correlate security alerts, construct attack scenarios and present high-level aggregated information. False alarm rate is the ratio between the number of normal connections that are incorrectly misclassified as attacks and the total number of normal connections. In this paper we propose a false alarm classification model to reduce the false alarm rate using classification analysis of data mining techniques. The proposed model can classify the alarms from the intrusion detection systems into false alert or true attack. Our approach is useful to reduce false alerts and to improve the detection rate of network-based intrusion detection systems.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the combination of the internet and various sensing devices. IoT security has increasingly attracted extensive attention. However, significant losses appears due to malicious attacks. Therefore, intrusion detection, which detects malicious attacks and their behaviors in IoT devices plays a crucial role in IoT security. The intrusion detection system, namely IDS should be executed efficiently by conducting classification and efficient feature extraction techniques. To effectively perform Intrusion detection in IoT applications, a novel method based on a Conventional Neural Network (CNN) for classification and an improved Genetic Algorithm (GA) for extraction is proposed and implemented. Existing issues like failing to detect the few attacks from smaller samples are focused, and hence the proposed novel CNN is applied to detect almost all attacks from small to large samples. For that purpose, the feature selection is essential. Thus, the genetic algorithm is improved to identify the best fitness values to perform accurate feature selection. To evaluate the performance, the NSL-KDDCUP dataset is used, and two datasets such as KDDTEST21 and KDDTEST+ are chosen. The performance and results are compared and analyzed with other existing models. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has superior intrusion detection rates to existing models, where the accuracy and true positive rate improve and the false positive rate decrease. In addition, the proposed algorithm indicates better performance on KDDTEST+ than KDDTEST21 because there are few attacks from minor samples in KDDTEST+. Therefore, the results demonstrate that the novel proposed CNN with the improved GA can identify almost every intrusion.
