  • Within physical therapy education, there has been increased attention to curricula and course that emphasize problem solving, clinical reasoning, and synthesis of information across traditional discipline-specific boundaries. This article describes the development implementation, and outcomes of a problem-based learning course in Physical therapy. The course was designed to help students to integrate the various elements of a physical therapy curriculum and to enhance their abilities to respond to an ever-changing health care environment. An evaluation of the course by the first 50 students who completed it revealed both strengths and weaknesses. Students responded that the course enhanced their professional behavior, including interpersonal communication skills, team work, and follow-through with professional responsibilities. The learning package was developed by the authors and implemented to a college students during three weeks of the first semester of 2001. Most studies which conducted PBL module development were short period or temporary PBL package application and evaluation rather than a whole semester's. While, this study carried on partial integrated PBL curriculum development and application with recomposing content of the two subjects to one subject Physical therapy which includes four PBL packages. This package was developed from a simple concept to complex and partial integrated PBL curriculum application systematically variable learning methods such as discussion, practice, lecture, video. There are 2 classes, each class has 25 students, in the college. Each class has 5 small groups consisting 5 students. Two tutors proceeded discussion charging each class also, they used multiple methods and materials like tutorials, self-directed learning, lecture, and video. The package is 5 grades and 5 hours per week and the rate of discussion, lecture is 4, 1 respectively. One of the most change is the increase of interaction between students and tutors. Whenever students need information and suggestion, they can visit tutors who provide reading materials and guide for the direction of self learning. Therefore, this study describes the PBL package development process and application during one semester recomposing contents of two subjects to Physical therapy concepts. Besides, it will contribute to active application of existing each subject to tutors who intend to convert as PBL methods. The study has significant meaning to show potentiality of partially integrated PBL application, using systematic PBL package development from two subjects contents. However, when students' need of yearning is over the extent of Introduction of Physical therapy and Rehabilitation medicine, tutors should set learning extent. So, there is limitation to attain completely integrated PBL education within one subject, therefore, it is high lighted to proceed development of integrated curriculum to maximize learning effects of PBL. • This study aimed to examine how prospective mathematics teachers (PMTs) perceive collaborative problem-posing (CPP) as a method to cultivate students' creativity and character in mathematics education. This is to propose the introduction of CPP at the stage of preparatory math teacher education as one of the ways to reinforce the creativity and character education capacity of PMT), and to attempt to be an opportunity to actively utilize CPP in math teaching-learning in the school field for the education of students' creativity and character. To achieve this objective, I designed PMTs taking the 'Educational Theories for Teaching Mathematics' course, required in the second year of university, to experience CPP tasks. Data were collected through questionnaires or interviews over three years on how PMTs recognized the CPP tasks as a tool to cultivate students' creativity and character in secondary schools. The results of the study are as follows. First, PMTs recognized regardless of their CPP experience that CPP might have a positive impact on improving students' ability to devise various ideas and that it positively influences students' attitudes toward building interpersonal relationships, including teamwork, respect, and consideration. Second, the experience of PMTs participating in the CPP made them more positively aware that CPP is effective in improving students' ability to elaborate on ideas. Third, the PMTs' experience of participating in CPP led to a more positive perception of the impact of CPP on the students' abilities and attitudes, namely, the students' ability to elaborate on ideas and their inner attitudes toward individuals, including honesty, fairness, and responsibility, and the attitude of students regarding logically presenting their opinions and making rational decisions. Finally, if there are downsides to the offline environment, an online environment may be more beneficial.

  • This was designed to identify the relationship of perceived stress, ways of coping, and stress response in student nurses. The subjects of this study were 320 student nurses from two universities and three junior colleges located in Seoul. The data were collected from November 28 to December 10, 1997 by a questionnaire survey method. The instruments for this study were the perceived stress scale developed by Levenstein(1993), ways of coping scale developed by lazarus & Folkman (1984), and the stress response scale developed by Choi(1991). The data were analyzed by SAS program, using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and ANOVA. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The mean score for the level of perceived stress was 2.55. 2. The mean score for the level of problem oriented coping was 1.61 and the mean score for the level of emotional oriented coping was 1.37. 3. The mean score for the level of stress response was 3.74. Stress was classified into nine factors and the order of scoring for the most frequent was ; assignments(3.98), as a nurse(3.97), interpersonal relationship(3.88). 4. The relationship between perceived stress and stress response revealed a positive significant correlation(r=0.23, p=0.0001) 5. The relationship between emotional oriented coping and stress response revealed a positive significant correlation(r=0.22, p=0.0001). 6. The relationship between perceived stress and emotional oriented coping revealed a positive significant correlation(r=0.13, p=0.020). In conclusion, this study revealed that the level of perceived stress and ways of coping were important factors influencing the stress response of student nurses. Therefore, in consideration of perceived stress, ways of coping should be included in the development of a stress management program for student nurses. Further research with an expanded area and subjects is recommended.

  • Unlike face-to-face communication, text-based communication by digital media has limitations that non-verbal elements are eliminated and social presence decrease. To overcome this problem, people try to find solutions which visualize emotion and situation by using emoticons, icons, computer language and so on. As most SMS users experience the failure of using emotions on the mobile phone, they need to make up for this point. In this study, we conducted research on the recent mobile fonts situations and surveyed users' perception on SMS fonts as to suggest solutions of expressing and visualizing emotions on the mobile phone, a representative media of personal communication. As a solution of reducing the failure, we conducted a survey on users' perception about fonts and the capability of the expressing emotions by fonts. The survey found that mobile fonts can be used as a method to express human emotion. As a finding, the shape of the font can be used as a method to visualize the emotion through text messaging. In future studies, such a method can be applied to variety of different personal media with the communication method based on text. Those studies can propose different usage for fonts in communication.

  • Purpose: The present study aimed to review the characteristics of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) programs for alcohol use disorders and to examine the outcomes of such programs. Methods: We searched for domestic and foreign studies that implemented a CBT program for alcohol use disorders, published from 2006 to 2017. Studies that met inclusion/exclusion criteria were selected and a quality assessment was performed using the Risk of Bias (RoB) and Risk of Bias Assessment Tool for Nonrandomized Studies (RoBANS) instruments. We utilized a five-stage analysis process, through which nine experimental studies were selected. Results: Of these nine studies, four were randomized controlled trials, four used a quasi-experimental design, and one used a qualitative design. The CBT involved the three domains of cognitive reconstruction, problem solving, and coping. Coping with drinking situations and communication constituted most of the sessions. The outcomes of such interventions showed that CBT had a positive effect on alcohol use and self-evaluation. Conclusion: CBT is an effective way to change alcohol use behaviors, motivation, interpersonal relationships, emotional control, and self-efficacy among patients with alcohol use disorders. This study provides evidence for the effectiveness of CBT-based programs for the treatment of alcohol use disorders.
