Applying Theory of Planned Behavior to Examine Users' Intention to Adopt Broadband Internet in Lower-Middle Income Countries' Rural Areas: A Case of Tanzania

  • Broadband Internet has proven to be vital for economic growth in developed countries. Developing countries have implemented several initiatives to increase their broadband access. However, its full potential can only be realized through adoption and use. With lower-middle-income countries accounting for the majority of the world's unconnected population, this study employs the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to investigate users' intentions to adopt broadband. Rural Tanzania was chosen as a case study. A cross-sectional study was conducted over three weeks, using 155 people from seven villages with the lowest broadband adoption rates. Non-probability voluntary response sampling was used to recruit the participants. Using the TPB constructs: attitude toward behavior (ATB), subjective norms (SN), and perceived behavioral control (PBC), ordinal regression analysis was employed to predict intention. Descriptive statistical analysis yielded mean scores (standard deviation) as 3.59 (0.46) for ATB, 3.34 (0.40) for SN, 3.75 (0.29) for PBC, and 4.12 (0.66) for intention. The model adequately described the data based on a comparison of the model with predictors and the null model, which revealed a substantial improvement in fit (p<0.05). Moreover, the predictors accounted for 50.3% of the variation in the intention to use broadband Internet, demonstrating the predictive power of the TPB constructs. Furthermore, the TPB constructs were all significant positive predictors of intention: ATB (β=1.938, p<0.05), SN (β=2.144, p<0.05), and PBC (β=1.437, p=0.013). The findings of this study provide insight into how behavioral factors influence the likelihood of individuals adopting broadband Internet and could guide interventions through policies meant to promote broadband adoption.

부모의 관심과 문화자본이 초등학생의 인터넷 사용 형태에 미치는 영향 (The effect of parents concern and cultural capital on Internet using behaviors of primary school students)

  • 본 연구에서는 2010년부터 실시된 한국청소년패널조사를 통해 수집된 패널데이터를 사용하여 부모의 관심과 문화자본이 초등학생의 인터넷 사용형태에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 부모의 아동에 대한 관심 정도는 아동의 인터넷 사용형태에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나왔다. 부모의 관심 정도가 컴퓨터 이용 형태에 차이를 가져온다는 점이다. 게임 및 오락 사용 정도는 부모의 관심에 반비례하여 줄어드는 반면, 학습 및 정보를 찾기 위한 수단으로 사용은 증가한다. 또한 문화자본은 직접 간접적으로 아동의 인터넷 사용 형태에 영향을 미치고 있다. 이는 문화자본은 외부에서 이루어지는 활동이 주를 이루고 있고, 인터넷 대신 여가 시간을 보내는 방법을 부모로부터 배우고 또래들과의 활동으로 사회관계를 만들어 나가는 과정을 경험하기 때문에 인터넷을 대체활동으로 선택할 필요성이 줄어들기 때문인 것으로 보인다.

  • 청소년들은 상당한 수준의 인터넷 이용기술을 보유하고 광범위하게 인터넷을 이용하고 있지만, 성인에 비해 성 경험이 많지 않아 성에 대한 올바른 시각을 갖기 어렵다. 이러한 특징으로 인해 인터넷 음란물은 청소년의 성행태에 심각한 폐해를 야기할 수 있다. 이러한 문제의식에서 본 연구는 청소년이 평소에 갖고 있는 성정향성, 인터넷 음란물 노출 및 노출 후 행태 사이의 인과관계 구조를 PLS 구조모형 분석으로 탐색하였다. 분석결과 음란물 노출에 남성중심주의적 성정향성과 음란물 허용적 성정향성이 영향을 미치고 있었다. 또한 인터넷 음란물 노출은 성충동과 성행동에 직접적인 영향을 미치고 있었고, 성충동을 매개로 성행동에 간접적인 영향을 미치고 있었다. 본 연구의 의의는 기존연구에서 인터넷 음란물 노출의 종속변인으로 취급되었던 변인들을 성정향성으로 재개념화하여 인터넷 음란물의 예측변인임을 확인하였다는 점과 청소년의 인터넷 음란물 접촉이 성충동을 자극하여 성행동에 영향을 미치고 종국에는 성범죄를 유발할 수 있다는 사회통념을 간접적으로 확인하였다는 것이다.

인터넷 쇼핑몰에서의 소비자의 워험지각과 정보탐색에 관한 연구 (Consumer′s Perceived Risk and Information Search in Internet Shopping)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze consumers' perceived risk and information search behaviors in internet shopping. For this purpose, survey was conducted on 302 consumers in their 20s and 30s who had internet shopping experience. This study found that consumers' perceived risk was significantly related to their gender, educational level, income, credit card use, period of internet un, number of internet shopping experiences, and purchased product. Consumers' search behaviors were also significantly affected by gender, age, educational level, income, period of internet use, and purchased product. In addition, a higher level of consumers' perceived risk was significantly related to the amount of information search on product attributes themselves rather than on general information search such as the number of sites or the number of brands.

정보통신 이용행태와 직장인의 통행빈도 변화의 연관성 연구 (Relationship of the Use of Information and Communication Technologies with the Change of Travel Frequencies Korea Society of Transportation)

  • 본 연구에서는 정보통신 이용행태와 통행행태, 특히 통행발생빈도 변화와의 관계를 파악하기 위하여 수도권에 거주하면서 수도권에 직장을 둔 직장인 995명을 대상으로 개인특성, 통행특성, 토지이용특성, 정보통신이용특성 등을 설문 조사한 결과를 분석하였다. 통행특성으로는 차량이용빈도, 통근수단, 그리고 통근시간을, 토지이용특성으로는 주거지와 직장근처 지하철역까지의 거리를, 정보통신이용특성으로는 인터넷이용빈도, 자료 및 정보획득, 커뮤니케이션 & 여가활동, 인터넷구매 및 판매, 금융 및 전자민원, 핸드폰서비스이용량, 그리고 이메일이용빈도 등을 이용하였다. 분석결과 통행특성과 토지이용특성이 정보통신이용특성과 더불어 상호 영향을 미치면서 통행빈도의 변화에도 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 통근시간이 길고, 주거지와 직장에서 지하철을 이용하기 어려울수록 인터넷을 이용하여 자료 및 정보를 획득함으로써 실제 통행을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.

지각된 쾌락적 가치, 유용성 및 용이성이 인터넷 쇼핑몰 이용태도와 패션상품 구매의도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of the Perceived Hedonic Value, Usefulness and Ease of use on Attitude toward using in Internet Shopping Mall and Purchase Intention of the Fashion Merchandise)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the important factors and efficient strategies concerning Internet marketing. This study contributes to the effect on shopping behavior of Internet consumer applying technology acceptance model(TAM) in the Internet fashion merchandise shopping environment. The areas of study interest are, the perceived hedonic values, the perceived usefulness, the perceived ease of use, attitude toward using in Internet shopping mall and purchase intention of the fashion merchandise. To fulfill this objectives, a survey was conducted from May 20 to June 20 in 2007, and an subject of study is the college students and business man aged from 20s to 30s in purchase experience of the fashion merchandise to Internet shopping malls. Data collected over the Internet, and analyzed the 217 subjects. The empirical studies were summarized as follows. First, the perceived hedonic values, the perceived usefulness, and the perceived ease of use had an effect on attitude toward using in Internet fashion shopping mall. Second, the perceived hedonic values had an effect on the perceived usefulness in Internet fashion shopping mall. Third, the perceived ease of use had an effect on the perceived usefulness in Internet fashion shopping mall. Forth, the attitude toward using had an effect on intention of repurchase in Internet fashion shopping mall.

인터넷쇼핑몰의 쿠폰판촉이 소비자의 구매행동에 미치는 영향 (A study on Effects of Promotion of Coupons in Internet Shopping Mall on the Purchase Behavior of Consumers)

  • 본 연구는 온라인 쇼핑몰의 쿠폰판촉이 소비자의 구매행동에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 쿠폰 인지정도에 따라서는 F-검증을 실시한 결과 쿠폰의 인지여부에 따라 쿠폰 제공시 사용의사와 쿠폰 제공시 재사용의사에서는 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 쿠폰의 사용경험에 따른 구매행동의 차이를 전체적으로 살펴보면 쿠폰사용 경험이 있다가 없다보다 높은 평균을 보여 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 쿠폰 사용경험에 따라 구매행동에 차이가 있음을 시사하고 있다. 셋째, 구매행동과 쿠폰의 비용/편익 자각의 관계를 살펴보면 뚜렷한 정적 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 쿠폰의 비용/편익 자각이 높을수록 구매행동이 높아짐을 의미한다. 넷째, 구매행동은 쿠폰사용을 즐김과 쿠폰 사용습관과 가장 관계가 높음을 발견하였다.

Social network analysis on consumers' seeking behavior of health information via the Internet and mobile phones

  • In consideration of the rapid changes in the so-called information society of the $21^{st}$ century, about 80% of a total population in Korea has used the Internet. However, the social effect of the Internet and related devices has not been yet systematically studied in the literature. In healthcare as well, consumers' efficient use of the Internet for their positive health outcomes is becoming an issue. The purpose of this study was to analyze the medical subject headings keywords of the selected studies on consumers' use of Internet and mobile health information. For the analysis, social network analysis was used to provide basic information to present directions for future research on the field of interest.

초등학교 고학년의 뷰티제품 사용실태와 소비행동 (Use of Beauty Products and their Consumption: A Behavioral Research in the Higher Grades of Elementary schools)

  • This study is conducted in grades 4, 5, and6 of Elementary schools located in Seoul. The results would be recognized by the Consumer Behavior Survey and the Use of Beauty. Students in the higher grades of elementary schools are exposed to beauty products for the first time. This is a crucial age, where they start becoming interested in their appearance. This behavior is being exploited to increase the desire to use beauty products. Although the initial use is self-motivated, choosing a quality product is highly influenced by peers, reasonable pricing, and internet impact. The higher the grade of the elementary school, we observed an increase in this trust and impulsiveness in the consumer behavior. More than 2 million students spent considerable amounts of money, and showed trends of consumer behavior of the impulsive type. The results of this study can provide a significant base to further study trends of beauty usage in higher grades of elementary schools, and give an indication of the consumer behavior based on the beauty culture and use of health products.

인터넷 패션 쇼핑 몰의 연예인 광고 모델이 소비자의 구전 행동(WOM)에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Internet Fashion Shopping Celebrity Advertising Model on Consumers' WOM)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate if star marketing of on-line shopping malls affects consumers' WOM effect, and to compare the differences of consumption behavior between female teenagers and college students. Two hundred five female teenagers and college students who had purchased fashion goods through internet shopping mall participated in this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, and multiple regression were used. As the results, first, recognition of celebrity advertising models was classified into three factors such as 'trust of product', 'attractiveness of product' and 'leading interest of product' factors. Second, the greater exposure to celebrity models, the greater the good feelings about them, showing respondents' positive consumption behavior. Third, results of multiple regression revealed that behavior of pursuing celebrities' style accounted for 37% of the explained variance WOM behavior. Finally, t-test revealed that female college students were affected more by celebrity style and bought fashion items than female teenagers. However, female teenagers conducted more WOM behavior than college students. Based on these results, on-line fashion marketers would use these data for more their efficient fashion marketing strategies.
