The purpose of this study was to investigate the regional differences in anthropometric measurement, dietary behavior and nutrient intake among the nation-wide college students participating in a nutritional education program via internet. The subjects were 1614 college students (male: 752, female: 862) and divided into 4 regional groups. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a self administered questionnaire, and the data were collected via internet or by mail. The nutrient intake data collected from food record were analyzed by the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis Program. Data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 program. Average age of male and female college students were 23.6 years and 21.0 years, respectively. Most of the male and female college students had poor eating habits, such as unbalanced meals and skipping meals. In particular, more than 60% of the male college students in Chungcheong and Gyeongsang areas had irregularity of meal time. Female students in Seoul and Incheon areas showed significantly higher consumption frequency of yellow and green leafy vegetables compared to Chungcheong and Gyeongsang areas. Female students in Seoul, Incheon and Chungcheong areas showed significantly higher consumption frequency of milk and milk products compared to Gyeongsang area. Calorie, vitamin A, calcium and iron intakes of the male students and calorie, vitamin A, vitamin $B_2$, niacin and calcium intakes of female students were lower than the Korean RDA. Female students in Incheon area showed significantly higher vitamin C and iron intakes compared to the other areas. These results provide a nation-wide information on dietary behavior and nutrient intake among Korean college students.
This study was to investigate weight-control experience disorder and nutrient intake of college student attending web class via the internet. The subject were 1200 college students(392 male, 808 female) attending web class concerned with nutrition and weight control. This cross-sectional survey was conducted by self-administered questionnaire and data were analyzed by Students t-test and $\chi$$^2$-test. Nutrient intake collected from 3 day-recalls were analyzed by the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis Program. Mean height, weight and RBW(relative body weight) of the male college students were 174.7 cm, 68.0 kg and 101.2%, respectively. Mean height, weight and RBW of the female college students were 162.3% cm, 52.7% kg and 95.3% respectively. Among the male college students, low weight were 1.0%, underweight were 12.8%, overweight were 12.5%, obese were 6.9% by RBW standard. Among the female college students, low weight were 5.1%, underweight 30.2%, overweight were 5.2%, obese were 1.5% by RBW standard. Percentages of weight control experience were 21.7% and 67.0% in the male and female college students, respectively. According to RBW, 22.4% of the weight control experience group were low weight or underweight in the female college students but none of weight control experience group were low weight or underweight in the male college students. Percentage of eating disorder were 6.8%(2.8%, male, 8.7% female) in the college students. Among the female college students, most nutrient intakes were significantly lower in the weight-control experienced group compared to the weight-control nonexperienced group. Among the male college students, there was a tendency that the intake of nutrients, except carbohydrate, calcium and vitamin A was higher in the eating disorder group compared to the non-eating disorder group. However, among the female college students, there was a tendency that the intake of nutrients, except calcium and thiamin was lower in the eating disorder group compared to the non-eating disorder group. Therefore, nutrition education via the internet is required for college students to know proper weight loss methods, desirable eating habits and eating disorder problem well.
In order to investigate food purchase frequency of elementary school children and its related ecological factors, 431 4th, 5th and 6th grade elementary school children and their mothers, living in Seoul and Daejon, small city and rural area of Chungnam Province, were participated in this study. The subjects and their parents were surveyed by a self-recording questionnaire about food purchase frequency and some ecological factors. Average height and weight of the subjects by gender and grade were similar to or a little bit more than the 1998 Korean Growth Standard. According to relative body weight, 30.6% and 10.8% of the subjects belonged to under-weight and obesity categories, respectively. Of the subjects, 46.9% used PC telecommunication or internet, 53.8% of them used it for less than an hour per day, and 46.4% watched TV for 2 to 4 hours a day. About 42% of the subjects spent 500 Won or less daily to buy snacks. A half of the subjects took snacks once a day because of hunger. Mothers' nutrition knowledge score was averagely 8.16 out of 13 full score and the average attitude score was 43.22 out of 50 full score. Foods purchased more than once a week were milk and yoghurt, cookies, ice-cream, ramyun, and gum in order. Family income, parents' education level, mothers' nutrition knowledge and food attitude score, students' snacking frequency and TV watching time showed significant correlations with purchase frequencies of some individual food items. In conclusion, the elementary school children considered taste most important rather than nutrition in buying snacks and most frequently bought carbohydrate foods and concentrated sugars except milk. Ecological factors such as mothers' nutritional knowledge and food attitude, TV watching time and snacking frequency had influenced the children's food purchase frequency. Accordingly, it is necessary to educate both children and their mothers about good food purchase and the importance of snacking.

Through the increasing use of internet and smart device, consumers can search the information what they want to find. The information has been accumulated and become into a big data. Analyzing the big data regarding key words associated with foods and foodborne pathogens could be a method for predicting foodborne illness outbreaks, especially in school food services. Therefore, the objective of this study was to elucidate the correlations between key words associated with foods and food safety issues. Frequencies of the key words for foodborne pathogens and food safety issues were searched using an internet portal site from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2014. In addition, foodborne outbreak data were collected from Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for the same period of time. There was correlation between the time having maximum key word frequencies of foods and foodborne pathogens, and the time for foodborne illness outbreak occurred. In addition, the search frequencies for foods and foodborne pathogens were generally increased right after foodborne outbreaks occurred. However, in some cases foodborne outbreaks occurred after the search frequencies for certain seasonal foods increased These results could be useful in food safety management for reducing foodborne illness and in food safety communication.
