Purpose: To test the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Person-centered Climate Questionnaire-staff version (KPCQ-S) in long-term care institutions. Methods: A total of 297 staff in long-term care institutions including nine nursing homes (NHs) and 4 long-term care hospitals (LTCHs) were included. The KPCQ-S was developed following the WHO guidelines of the process of translation and adaptation of instruments. An internal consistency using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was tested for reliability. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to examine the construct validity. Convergent and discriminant validity were examined using Pearson correlation. Results: EFA demonstrated the construct validity of the 14-item KPCQ-S with three-factor solutions, specifically three factors (safety, everydayness, and community) in NHs and four factors (safety, everydayness, community, and comprehensibility) in LTCHs. Convergent validity was found in the correlation with the work satisfaction (r=.55). The KPCQ-S showed satisfactory internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.91$). Conclusion: The KPCQ-S is found to be a reliable and valid tool for measuring staff perceptions of the person centeredness of long-term care environments.

The PRQ instrument is parental perspectives of the parent-child relationship. It measured parent-child dimensions that include attachment and involvement. Also, it provides additional information on parenting style, parenting stress and satisfaction with the child's school. This study tested reliability and validity of the Korean version of Parenting Relationship Questionnaire-Child (K-PRQ-C). The K-PRQ-C was administered to parents of 713 elementary school children including 362 boys and 351 girls. They were from 1st to 6th grade children who were recruited form 4 elementary schools in Korea. Reliability was tested through internal consistency. We conducted confirmatory factor analysis. Moreover, scale inter-correlation was conducted for validity test. Discriminant validity conducted through administration to the parents of clinical children with emotional and behavior disorders. Construct validity was also examined through Korean version of the Parenting Sense of Competence. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the similar factor structures exist for PRQ-C and K-PRQ-C. The results showed a high level of internal consistency as well as construct and discriminant validity. These results showed valid psychometric properties for the K-PRQ-C. The K-PRQ-C provides a reliable and valid means of gathering information about the parent-child relationship. We discussed Implications for the use of the K-PRQ-C as a clinical tool and as a research instrument.

Objectives : The aims of the current study were to assess the reliability and validity of the CoRe-Ditec-BS Questionnaire-II (BSQ-II; Blood stasis questionnaire-II) with 8 items including 5 items related women added to BSQ-I that was consisted of 36 items and developed in 2013. Methods : Between May 2014 and November 2014, 411 patients from 3 traditional Korean medical hospitals were asked to complete the BSQ-II. Each patient was independently diagnosed with BSS by two traditional Korean medical physicians from the same site. We estimated the internal consistency using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient, the discriminant validity using the means score of BSS, and the predictive validity using logistic regression (sensitivity and specificity). Results : The BSQ-II had satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient=0.765) and validity, with significant differences in the mean scores between the BSS($63.60{\pm}9.56$) and non-BSS groups($48.36{\pm}5.93$). The area under the receiver operating curve was about 98%, and the sensitivity and specificity were 91.4% and 94.9%, respectively. Conclusions : These results suggest that the CoRE-Ditec-BSQ-II is more reliable and valid instrument for estimating BSS than BSQ-I.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to develop an instrument for the Korean Osteoarthritis Impact Measurement scale (KAIMS) in hip and knee osteoarthritis patients. Methods: A sample of 426 subjects was recruited in Ulsan metropolitan city (six hospitals and clinics) and Andong city (five hospitals and clinics) from June 2010 to May 2011. Item internal consistency and item discriminant validity were analyzed on the item-level, and floor (%) and ceiling (%) effect were analyzed on the scale-level. Exploratory factor analysis was performed for construction of items in the KAIMS instrument; confirmative factor analysis was also performed to test the fit of the model. Results: In 426 respondents, age was 64.3 years. The reliability for r coefficient 0.90 (mobility) and 0.89 (pain and stiffness) (Cronbach's alpha 0.95, 0.95 respectively) was high in the test-retest, and there was no significant difference in paired t-test (p>0.05). Item internal consistency (${\alpha}=0.92$, ${\alpha}=0.87$ respectively) was also high. It was constructed of two factors (mobility, pain and stiffness dimension) and nine items in explanatory factor analysis; results of confirmatory factor analysis also indicated that the dimensional structure model was fitted well in the test of model fit (${\chi}^2=83.83$, df=26, p=0.000; RMR=0.05; GFI=0.96; AGFI=0.83). Conclusion: In conclusion, the results of this study showed that the KAIMS that was developed was a reliable and valid instrument for measurement of osteoarthritis (OA) patients. We recommend further research for additional development of the instrument on OA in Korea.
Background: Measuring effects of cancer on family caregivers is important to develop methods which can improve their quality of life (QOL). Nevertheless, up to now, only a few tools have been developed to be used in this group. Among those, the Caregiver Quality of Life Index-Cancer Scale (CQOLC) has met minimum psychometric criteria in different populations in spite of conflicting results. The present study was conducted to evaluate reliability and validity of CQOLC among Turkish cancer family caregivers. Materials and Methods: The CQOLC was administered to 120 caregivers, along with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Medical Outcomes Study MOS 36- Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Internal consistency and test-retest stability were used to investigate reliability. Construct validity was examined by using known group method, convergent, and divergent validity. For the known group method, we hypothesized that CQOLC scores would differ between depressed and non-depressed subjects. We investigated convergent validity by correlating scores for CQOLC with scores for other similar measures including SF-36 and STAI. The MSPSS was completed at the same time as CQOLC to provide divergent validity. Results: The values for internal consistency and test-retest correlation were 0.88 and 0.96, respectively. The CQOLC discriminated those who were depressed from those who were not. Convergent validity supported strong correlations between CQOLC scores and two main component scores (PCS, MCS) in SF-36 although there was a weak correlation between CQOLC and STAI scores. Regarding divergent validity, the correlation between CQOLC and MSPSS was in the low range, as expected. Conclusions: The Turkish CQOLC is a reliable and valid tool and it can be utilized to determine QOL of family caregivers.
Objectives: The study purpose was to test the validity and reliability of the core emotional assessment questionnaire based on the seven emotions. Methods: Survey data were from 651 individuals and contained 141 items determined from a previous pilot study. Among the participants, 241 were retested. First, following analysis of the internal consistency reliability of the 141 items, we deleted items with Cronbach-$\alpha$ coefficient below 0.5. We then selected 100 final items after the first factor analysis. Second, the final 100 items were evaluated by internal consistency reliability, test-retest reliability, factor analysis, and correlational analysis. Results: Cronbach-$\alpha$ coefficient for the final 100 items were 0.866~0.956 and the test-retest reliability were above 0.70. The 100 items categorized into 7 factors explained 53.8% of the total variance. Analyzing the correlation of each chiljeong, we had a high positive correlation above 0.70 between sa and bi, bi and u, gong and kyeong. Conclusions: The final 100 items used for the core emotional assessment questionnaire based on the seven emotions showed satisfactory reliability and validity. Thus, it may be an appropriate instrument for measuring Chiljeong in the general population.
This study was designed to adapt the Turkish versions of scales to evaluate fatigue in children with cancer from the perspectives of the children, parents and staff. The objective of this study was to validate "Child Fatigue Scale-24 hours" (CFS-24 hours), "Parent Fatigue Scale-24 hours" (PFS-24 hours) and "Staff Fatigue Scale-24 hours" (SFS-24 hours) for use in Turkish clinical research settings. Translation of the scales into Turkish and validity and reliability tests were performed. The validity of the translated scales was assessed with language validity and content validity. The reliability of the translated scales was assessed with internal consistency. The scales were evaluated by considering the following: calculation of the Cronbach alpha coefficient for parallel form reliability with 52 pediatric cancer patients, 86 parents and 43 nurses. The internal consistency was estimated as 0.88 for the Child Fatigue Scale-24 hours, 0.77 for the Parent Fatigue Scale-24 hours, and 0.72 for the Staff Fatigue Scale-24 hours (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$). The Turkish version of the Child Fatigue Scale -24 hours, the Parent Fatigue Scale -24 hours and the Staff Fatigue Scale -24 hours were judged reliable and valid instruments to assess fatigue in children and showed good psychometric properties. These scales should assist in understanding to what extent initiatives can minimize or eliminate fatigue. Our scales are recommended for further studies and use in pediatric oncology clinics as routine measurements and nursing initiatives should be planned accordingly.
Purpose: The purpose of this methodological study was to examine the validity and reliability of a translated Korean version of The Oncology Patients' Perception of the Quality of Nursing Care Scale. Methods: The translated scale was pilot tested and then administered to 360 patients with cancer. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were utilized to assess the factor structure. Internal consistency reliability was determined using coefficient ${\alpha}$. Results: Two of the 40 items were deleted with a principal component method of exploratory factor analysis because they did not meet the factor-loading criterion. The 38 items were again analyzed and, four factors were validated (KMO=.96, Bartlett ${\chi}^2=10809.81$, df=780, p<.001). The four factors accounted for 60.9% of the variance. Factor loadings of the scale on the four subscales ranged from .65 to .91. The scale showed reliable internal consistency with a Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, total 38 items (${\alpha}=.96$) in four subscales: individualization (18 items, ${\alpha}=.96$), proficiency (10, .91), responsiveness (7, .90), and coordination (3, .80). Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrate that the scale has satisfactory construct validity and reliability to measure quality of cancer nursing care from the patient's perspective in Korea.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Quality of Nursing Work Life (QNWL-K) scale. The scale measures the reported quality of the nurse' work life among Korean nurses. Methods: The QNWL-K was developed through forward-backward translation techniques. An internal consistency reliability and construct validity using exploratory analysis were conducted using SPSS/WIN (21.0). Survey data were collected from 309 nurses who worked in two tertiary hospitals, four general hospitals, and two hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi, South Korea. Results: Factor analysis results of the revised QWNL-K demonstrated that it has a four-factor structure (work context, support systems for home/work life, work design, and staffing) that supports construct validity. Factor loadings of the 36 items ranged from .30~.77. The QNWL-K showed reliable internal consistency from Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for the total scale of .93. Conclusion: The findings support that the QNWL-K has satisfactory construct validity and is a reliable measure of nursing work life in Korea.

Purpose: This methodological study was conducted to develop and psychometrically test the Transcultural Self-efficacy scale (TCSE-scale) for nurses. Methods: Initial 41 items for the TCSE-scale were generated based on extensive literature reviews and in-depth interviews with 18 nurses who had experience in caring for foreign patients. Cultural Competence and Confidence model was used as a conceptual framework. Content validity was evaluated by an expert panel. Psychometric testing was performed with a convenience sample of 242 nurses recruited from four general hospitals in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gyeonggi-do province of South Korea. To evaluate the reliability of TCSE-scale, a test-retest reliability and an internal consistency reliability were analyzed. Construct validity, concurrent validity, criterion validity, convergent validity and discriminative validity were used to evaluate the validity. Results: The 25-item TCSE-scale was found to have three subscales-Cognitive, Practical, and Affective domain-explaining 91.5% of the total variance. TCSE-scale also demonstrated a concurrent validity with the Cultural Competence Scale. Criterion-related validity was supported by known-group comparison. Reliability analysis showed an acceptable-to-high Cronbach's alpha-.88 in total, and subscales ranged from .76 to .87. The ICC was .90, indicating that the TCSE-scale has internal consistency and stability of reliability. Conclusion: This preliminary evaluation of the psychometric scale properties demonstrated an acceptable validity and reliability. The TCSE-scale is able to contribute to building up empirical and evidence based on data collection regarding the transcultural self-efficacy of clinical nurses. We suggest further testing of the applicability of TCSE-scale in different settings and community contexts.
