  • The plane elasticity problem of collinear cracks in a layered medium is investigated. The medium is modeled as bonded structure constituted from a surface layer and a semi-infinite substrate. Along the bond line between the two dissimilar homegeneous constituents, it is assumed that as interfacial zone having the functionally graded, nonhomogeneous elastic modulus exists. The layered medium contains three collinear cracks, one in each constituent material oriented perpendicular to the nominal interfaces. The stiffness matrix formulation is utilized and a set of homogeneous conditions relevant to the given problem is readily satisfied. The proposed mixed boundary value problem is then represented in the form of a system of integral equations with Cauchy-type singular kernels. The stress intensity factors are defined from the crack-tip stress fields possessing the standard square-root singular behavior. The resulting values of stress intensity factors mainly address the interactions among the cracks for various crack sizes and material combinations.

  • The backside metallization process is typically used to attach a chip to a lead frame for semiconductor packaging because it has excellent bond-line and good electrical and thermal conduction. In particular, the backside metal with the Ag/Sn/Ag sandwich structure has a low-temperature bonding process and high remelting temperature because the interfacial structure composed of intermetallic compounds with higher melting temperatures than pure metal layers after die attach process. Here, we introduce a die attach process with the Ag/Sn/Ag sandwich structure to apply commercial semiconductor packages. After the die attachment, we investigated the evolution of the interfacial structures and evaluated the shear strength of the Ag/Sn/Ag sandwich structure and compared to those of a commercial backside metal (Au-12Ge).

  • Since the surface roughness of adherends affects much the strength of adhesivelybonded joints, the effect of surface roughness on the fatigue life of adhesively bonded tubular single lap joints was investigated analytically and experimentally by fatigue torsion test. The stiffness of the interfacial layer between adherends and adhesive was modeled as a normal statistical distribution function of surface roughness of adherends. From the investigation, it was found that the optimum surface roughness of adherends for the fatigue strength of tubular single lap joints was dependent on bondthickness and applied load.

  • Recently it has been actively studied that the use of hybrid GFRP-concrete structure with dual purpose of both a permanent forwork and main tensile reinforcement of GFRP plank. In applying general analysis and design technique to evaluate the performance of hybrid structures with cast-in-place high strength concrete and GFRP plank, it is essential that the characteristics of the bond slip model is identified. In this study a simplified bilinear bond slip model for hybrid structure with GFRP plank and cast-in-place high strength concrete is proposed. Maximum average bond stress of simple bond slip relationship that has been proposed in this study is 3.29MPa, initial slope is 35.66MPa/mm, the total slip is 0.23mm and interfacial fracture energy is 0.37kN/m.

  • Objectives: This study evaluated the effect of ultrasonic agitation of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), calcium silicate-based cement (CSC), and Sealer 26 (S26) on adaptation at the cement/dentin interface and push-out bond strength. Materials and Methods: Sixty maxillary canines were divided into 6 groups (n = 10): MTA, S26, and CSC, with or without ultrasonic activation (US). After obturation, the apical portions of the teeth were sectioned, and retrograde cavities were prepared and filled with cement by hand condensation. In the US groups, the cement was activated for 60 seconds: 30 seconds in the mesio-distal direction and 30 seconds in the buccal-lingual direction, using a mini Irrisonic insert coupled with the ultrasound transducer. After the materials set, 1.5-mm thick sections were obtained from the apexes. The presence of gaps and the bond between cement and dentin were analyzed using low-vacuum scanning electron microscopy. Push-out bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine. Results: Ultrasonic agitation increased the interfacial adaptation of the cements. The S26 US group showed a higher adaptation value than MTA (p < 0.05). US improved the push-out bond strength for all the cements (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The US of retrograde filling cements enhanced the bond to the dentin wall of the root-end filling materials tested.

  • To test the shear bond strength of a new "one-bottle adhesive" system to primary dentin two commercially available one-bottle adhesives (Prime & Bond NT, Single bond) and conventional three step system(Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus) were included for comparison. And We observe the interfacial morphology by scanning electron microscope. 90 primary molar teeth were embedded in acrylic and buccal and lingual surface were polished to 320 grit to create standardized dentin surface for testing. After bonding of composite resin to sample surfaces according to the manufacturer s direction and 1000 times thermocycling in dwell time 30 second, Shear bond strengths of adhesives to dentin were determined using universal testing machine and analyzed by ANOVA test. Another groups of specimens were treated by hydrochloric acid to secure the resin only and those tags were evaluated under SEM for their length and forms and the morphology of the bonding sites were also observed. The result are as follows. 1. Group I(Prime & Bond NT) showed higher shear bond strength than group iI(Single Bond) and III(Scotchbond Multi Purpose Plus) but no statistically significant difference was founded between groups(p>.05). 2. Relating long resin tags of $70-120{\mu}m$ were observed in samples of all groups under SEM. We could observed hybrid layer, resin tag and many lateral branches in every group. But, we observed in group III rare lateral branched than other two group and discontinuous hybrid layer.

  • Silicon dioxide thin film has been grown by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique using SiH4, and O2 gaseous mixture on a silicon substrate. The experimental results indicated that the deposition rate as a function of the input ratio (O2/SiH4) shows two regions, increasing region and decreasing region. Also the deposition rate increases with increasing the deposition temperature. The microstructure of deposited silicon dioxide films is amorphous. The experimental results of infrared absorption spectrums indicate that Si-H and Si-OH bond increase with decreasing input ratio, but Si-O bond is independent on the input ratio. The interfacial charge of deposited silicon dioxide decreases with increasing input ratio.

  • The fracture strength and fracture modes were studied in 3Y-TZP/NiNi bonding which change their interfacial structure with bonding condition. Average 4-point bending strength of 200 MPa to 400 MPa were achieved. The formation of Ti-oxide phase at the interface critically influenced the bonding strength and fracture mode. The fracture surface of Ti-oxide free interface contained multiphase in some case including ZrO2. From the result it was confirmed that in order to maximize the bonding strength crack deflection from interface to ceramic was required.

  • Indirect composite resins are used as an popular effective esthetic material in prosthetic dentistry, often with metallic substructure that provides support for restorations. Recently, new indirect composite resins as a substitute of ceramic have been developed. These resins provide good esthetics, with a wide range of hue and chroma. And the flexural strength of those is in the range of 120-150MPa, Which is higher than that of feldspathic Ceramic, and similar th that of Dicor. Although it has many merits, one of the major clinical problems of composite resins is the bond failure between metal and resin due to insufficient interfacial bond strength. The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength of the reinforced indirect composite resin to dental alloys. Three different composite resin systems($Artglass^{(R)},\;Sculpture^{(R)},\;Targis^{(R)}$) as test groups and ceramic($VMK\;68^{(R)}$) as control group were bonded to Ni-Cr-Be alloy($Rexillium\;III^{(R)}$) and gold alloy(Deva 4). All specimens were stored at $^37{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours and the half of specimens were thermocycled 2000 times at temperature from $5^{\circ}C\;to\;60^{\circ}C$. The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were measured by using the universal testing machine, and modes of debonding were observed by stereoscope and scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1 The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were approximately half those of ceramic to dental alloys(P<0.01). 2. There was no significant difference between the shear bond strength of several reinforced indirect composite resins to metal. 3. Alloy type did not affect on the shear bond strengths of resin to metal, but the shear bond strengths of ceramic to gold alloys were higher than those of ceramic to Ni-Cr alloys(P<0.05). 4. The shear bond strengths of Artglass and Targil to gold alloys were significantly decreased after thermocycling treatment(P<0.01). 5. Sculpture showed cohesive, adhesive, and mixed failure modes, but Artglass and Targis showed adhesive or mixed failures. And ceramic showed cohesive and mixed failures.

  • A methodology for enhancing the bond strength of a coating layer with a support has been established in preparing low-pressure reverse osmosis mO) hollow fiber which would experience shear badly in flowing feed un it. Prior to coating process, the support membrane, ultrafiltratiun polysulfone(PS) hollow fibers was pretreated with a reaction solution containing glutaraldehyde (GAl which has a good affinity to the suppurt membrane material as well as a reactivity to some of the cunstituents of cuating layer subsequently formed on the support by interfacial polymerization. Therefore, the reactant GA distributed unifonnly over the support layer through the pretreatment could provide a strong adhesive bond between the coating layer and the support, sticking fast to the support membrane through physical bond and, at the same time, connecting its functional group with the coating laycr by chemical bonding. Due to the strong adhesive bond, the resulting hollow fiber membrane showed an excellent long-tcnn stability in pcnneation.
