In this paper, we suggest a haptic interface and a framework of interaction with haptic feedback based Windows graphical user interface (GUI) in a computing device with touch screen. The events that occur during a user interacts with Windows interfaces through a touch screen are filtered out by the Windows Interface Message Filter (WIMF) and converted into appropriate haptic feedback information by the Haptic Information Provider (HIP). The haptic information are conveyed to users through a stylus-like haptic interface interacting with a touch screen. Major Windows interaction schemes including button click, menu selection/pop-up, window selection/movement, icon selection/drag & drop and scroll have been implemented and user tests show the improved usability since the haptic feedback helps intuition and precise manipulation.
We applied two numerical schemes to improve accuracy of the solution in the flow simulation of molten metal. One method is Piecewise Linear Interface Calculation (PLIC) method and the other is Donor-Acceptor (D-A) method. In the present work, we have tested simple problems to verify the module of the interface reconstruction algorithms. After validations, accuracy and efficiency of these two methods have compared by simulating various real products. On the numerical simulation of free surface flow, it is possible for PLIC method to track very accurately the interface between phases. PLIC method, however, has the weak point where a lot of computational time hangs, though it shows the more accurate interface reconstruction. Donor-Acceptor method has enough effectiveness in the macro observation of mold filling sequence though it shows the inferior accuracy.

IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN standard specifies the air interface of fixed point-to-multipoint broadband wireless access systems providing multiple services. Among the service classes supported by the wireless MAN, the best effort service class is ranked on the lowest position in priority and is assisted by a MAC scheme based on reservation ALOHL Such MAC scheme must include a number of components, while many of them are not specified in the standard. In this paper, we thus reveal main components of a MAC scheme supporting the best effort service and present candidate schemes implementing such components. Combining schemes for implementing components, we then construct distinctive MAC schemes supporting best effort service. In designing a MAC scheme, the delay performance induced by the scheme should be considered since scarce resource may be available for the best effort service after the preemptive resource occupation by other service classes. In this paper, we focus on the delay fairness among the subscriber stations using the best effort service. For evaluating a MAC scheme in delay fairness, we present two definitions of delay fairness and provide a criterion for optimal MAC scheme according to each definition of delay fairness. Using a simulation method we investigate the mean delay performance exhibited by each MAC scheme arid find an optimal scheme in delay fairness. From numerical examples, we observe that SR/ED/PG+P scheme has strong delay fairness compared with MR/ED/PG+P and SR/ED/PG+D schemes according to a definition of delay fairness. However, other schemes are rather shown to have better delay fairness when the other definition is adopted.
The purpose of this study is to develop systematic methods for evaluating the suitability of a seat and build an empirical model for predicting the suitability of a seat. The following research schemes were pursued to achieve the objectives - Development of suitable chair dimensions - Analysis scheme for decomposing the human-product interface system - Development of model for evaluating suitability. As a result, we uncovered six dominant suitability dimensions for the design of a comfortable seat that is related to the physical dimension of a body, Here, six suitability dimensions were identified as the dimensions that represent the human sensitivity and psychological feeling on comfortable seats. Also, 43 human-interface elements (HIE's) such as seat height, seat width, seat depth, tilting angle, seat surface etc. were investigated. HIE was generally defined as the physical characteristic of manufacturing goods, and it had close related to the body dimension of a user and environment that it was used.

Frame relay needs UPC function for the multiplexed logical connections to prevent malicious user traffic from incoming to network, to guarantee the QoS of conformed user traffic, and to protect the normal operation of network system. On the FR/ATM interworking in ATM networks, the UPC may be conducted either by cell-based ATM UPC or frame-based FR UPC. Frames come into and traverse ATm networks by segmentation to ATM cells. Of course, FR QoS should be guaranteed in spite of segmentation and reassembly in ATM networks. In this paper, we compared the QoS of cell-based ATM UPC and frame-based FR UPC in terms of analysis and simulation in case of ingress of excess traffic over negotiated traffic parameters at user-to-network interface. Also we studied frame-based UPC schemes including window-based FR UPC and frame-based VSA which is an ATM UPC algorithm recommended by ITU-T. We described introductions to frame relay including frame structure and FR/ATM interworking, FR traffic parameters and their relationship, comparison of FR QoS between frame-based FR UPC and cell-based ATM UPC, comparison of FR UPC schemes, necessities of egress traffic control, and conclusions.

In this paper, one general approach is proposed for the design of power system that can be applicable for next generation LEO satellite application. The power system consists of solar panels, battery, and power control and distribution unit(PCDU). The PCDU contains solar array modules, battery interface modules, low-voltage power distribution modules, high-voltage distribution modules, heater power distribution modules, on-board computer interface modules, and internal DC/DC converter modules. The PCDU plays roles of protection of battery against overcharge by active control of solar array generated power, distribution of unregulated electrical power via controlled outlets to bus and instrument units, distribution of regulated electrical power to selected bus and instrument units, and provision of status monitoring and telecommand interface allowing the system and ground operate the power system, evaluate its performance and initiate appropriate countermeasures in case of abnormal conditions. We review the functional schemes of the main constitutes of the PCDU such as the battery interface module, the auxiliary supply module, solar array regulators with maximum power point tracking(MPPT) technology, heater power distribution modules, spacecraft unit power distribution modules, and instrument power distribution module.
In this paper, we study numerical schemes for solving multi-dimensional option pricing problem. We compare the direct solving method and the Operator Splitting Method(OSM) by using finite difference approximations. By varying parameters of the Black-Scholes equations for the maximum on the call option problem, we observed that there is no significant difference between the two methods on the convergence criterion except a huge difference in computation cost. Therefore, the two methods are compatible in practice and one can improve the time efficiency by combining the OSM with parallel computation technique. We show numerical examples including the Equity-Linked Security(ELS) pricing based on either two assets or three assets by using the OSM with the Monte-Carlo Simulation as the benchmark.

To reduce the cost of solar electricity, the crystalline-silicon (c-Si) photovoltaic industry is moving toward the use of thinner wafers (100 μm to 200 μm) to achieve a high efficiency. In this field, it is imperative to achieve an effective passivation method to reduce the electronic losses at the c-Si interface. In this article, we review the most promising surface passivation schemes that are available for high-efficiency solar cells.
In this paper, downlink capacity of time duplex division (TDD) based cellular wireless networks utilizing fixed hopping stations is investigated. In the network, a number of fixed subscriber stations act as hopping transmission stations between base stations and far away subscribers, forming a cellular and ad hoc mobile network model. At the radio layer, TDD code division multiple access (CDMA) is selected as the radio interface due to high efficiency of frequency usage. In order to improve the system performance in terms of downlink capacity, we propose different time slot allocation schemes with the usage of fixed hopping stations, which can be selected by either random or distanced dependent schemes. Performance results obtained by computer simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed network to improve downlink system capacity.
Numerical simulations for dendritic growth of crystals are conducted in this study by the level set method. The effect of order of difference is tested for reinitialization error in simple problems and authors founded in case of 1st order of difference that very fine grids have to be used to minimize the error and higher order of difference is desirable to minimize the reinitialization error The 2nd and 4th order Runge-Kutta scheme in time and 3rd and 5th order of WENO schemes with Godunov scheme are applied for space discretization. Numerical results are compared with the analytical theory, phase-field method and other researcher's level set method.
