  • To discern general tendency in relatively pure even-aged pine stands, to group the stands and to perceive neighbourhood effects a total of 39 sites of pine stand was surveyed from nearby Seoul (12 sites), Chunsung, Kangwon (13 sites) and Sosan, Chungnam (14 sites), for herb and shrub species 32, 19; 37, 19 and 41, 14 in the respective areas from September 1987 to July 1988. In terms of detrended correspondence analysis (DECORANA), the stands were subjected to ordinate with 16 physical variables and the vegetational variables. The resource ratio (N:P, N:K, P:K) as physical variables also was tried out in the DECORANA as well as independent variable (N.P.K). The outcome did not show any meaningful difference. It is suggested that there seems to be no apparent interaction among the elements in the study. Three vertical vegetation componeent, that is, tree layer, shrub layer, herb layer were subjccted to DECORANA independently, pairwisely and as a whole (a total 7 combinations). Of those analysis herb layer trial alone seems to indicate relatively clearer differences among the physical variables. In the stands nearby Seoul first axis indicated soil field capacity and exchangeable cations (K, Ca and Na) and second axis did not show any tendency. For the Chunsung stands first axis also revealed soil field capcity and amount of arganic matter and second axis showed amount of exchangeable cation (K, Ca and Na), In the Seosan 1st axis indicated pH and exchangeable cations (K, Ca and Na). For the 39 sites 4 clusters in terms of herb layer might be defined: Peucedanum terebinthaceum-Cymbopogon tortilis-Polygala japonica-Festuca ovina (1); Atractylodes japonica-Patrina scabiosaefolia (2); Potentilla fragarioides-Atractylodes (3); and Cymbopogon tortilis (4). In the neighbourhood effects study in terms of the basal area distribution, Thiessen polygon area and Gini coefficient for the Pinus thunbergii stands of Seosan the Thiessen polygon area approach seems to indicate earlier (30 years old) neighbourhood effect than the others (45 years).

  • For an advanced intelligent service, the need of HRI technology has recently been increasing and the technology has been also improved. However, HRI components have been evaluated under stable and controlled laboratory environments and there are no evaluation results of performance in real environments. Therefore, robot service providers and users have not been getting sufficient information on the level of current HRI technology. In this paper, we provide the evaluation results of the performance of the HRI components on the robot platforms providing actual services in pilot service sites. For the evaluation, we select face detection component, speaker gender classification component and sound localization component as representative HRI components closing to the commercialization. The goal of this paper is to provide valuable information and reference performance on appling the HRI components to real robot environments.

  • The interaction of the antitumour agent, doxorubicin, with adenine is investigated in an aqueous solution at a concentration of 10-3~10-4 with volume ratios of 1:2. A UV-resonance Raman spectroscopy and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy are used to determine the binding sites of doxorubicin to adenine and the structural variations of doxorubicin-adenine complexes in an aqueous solution. We identified that the possibilities of doxorubicin interacted with the N7 positions of adenine.

  • Binding of four cephalosporins(cefaclor, cefpiramide, ceftazidime, ceforanide) to bovine serum albumin was studied. Difference spectrophotometry was employed to evaluate the nature and the degree of association of cephalosporin-albumin complex. 2-(4'-hydroxybenzen azo) benzoic acid was used as the uv spectrophotometric probe for measuring the binding of cephalosporins to bovine serum albumin. Competitive bindings between cephalosporins and probe were observed. For the binding of cephalosporins to bovine serum albumin, three binding sites were identified. The binding constants of cefaclor, ceforanide, ceftazidime and cefpiramide were $12.57\;{\times}\;10^{-2}M^{-1}$, $6.49\;{\times}\;10^{-2}M^{-1}$, $4.70\;{\times}\;10^{-2}M^{-1}$ and $6.20\;{\times}\;10^{-2}M^{-1}$ respectively.

  • Ziprasidone is equally effective as haloperidol in treating schizophrenia with fewer side effects and drug interactions. Ziprasidone is an atypical antipsychotic agent and works by blocking serotonin and dopamine receptors in the central nervous system, specifically 5-HT2A and D2 receptors. Low anticholinergic side-effects and low EPS would recommend the drug for use in the elderly. Ziprasidone inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin at neurojunction sites in vitro, indicating a potential efficacy for depression and negative symptoms which often follow after exacerbation of schizophrenia. Patients with recent acute myocardial infarction and uncompensated heart failure are contraindicated to the drug due to a possibility of QT prolongation. Although ziprasidone is metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4, there is no significant drug interaction with the drugs that induce or inhibit the isoenzyme. Ziprasidone is safe with coadministration of lithium and there has been no significant drug interaction reported with oral birth control pills.

  • In this research performed on a pneumatic actuator, the air flow entering and exiting the cylinder, and the motion and deformation characteristics of the piston during operation of the actuator, were predicted. This was carried out by utilizing an FSI(Fluid-Structural Interaction) analysis technique that incorporates principles in computational fluid dynamics and structural stress analysis, and potential performance degradation factors were examined. Analysis results indicated that performance improvements could be made through design modifications. These include adding an inlet and outlet on the upper and lower sections of the cylinder in the conventional model, and increasing the number of sites for piston guide bars from three to four.

  • As brand is increasingly important as a competitive source and information and communication technology based on Internet is rapidly advanced, many companies have paid attention to online brand community that is expected to help strengthen the customer's awareness on their products and services. This study suggests four factors-interaction, purpose, playfulness, reward-that facilitate online brand community commitment, and examines the effect of online brand community commitment on brand loyalty from the perspective of social identity theory. For this purpose, 243 sample data were collected from three online brand community sites and the proposed research model was empirically tested using LISREL 8.7 based on structural equation model. In conclusion, this study proposed theoretical and practical implications along with its limitations and future studies.

  • The interaction of bovine carbonic anhydrase II with copper ions was studied by isothermal titration microcalorimetry, circular dichroism, UV spectrophotometry and temperature scanning spectrophotometry methods at 27 ${^{\circ}C}$ in Tris buffer solution at pH = 7.5. It was indicated that there are three non-identical different binding sites on carbonic anhydrase for $Cu^{2+}$. The binding of copper ions is exothermic and can induce some minor changes in the secondary and tertiary structure of the enzyme, which does not unfold it, but can result in a decrease in both activity and stability of the enzyme.

  • The mechanism of interaction of two drugs viz., amoxicillin and cloxacillin with bovine serum albumin has been investigated using fluorescence absorption and circular dichroism spectroscopy. The quenching mechanism of fluorescence of bovine serum albumin by amoxicillin and cloxacillin was discussed. The binding sites number n and apparent binding constant Kwere measured by fluorescence quenching method. The thermodynamic parameters obtained from data at different temperatures were calculated. The distance r between donor (bovine serum albumin) and acceptor (amoxicillin and cloxacillin) was obtained according to Forster theory of non-radiative energy transfer. The effect of common ions on binding constant was also investigated. The results of synchronous fluorescence spectra, UV-vis absorption spectra and circular dichroism of BSA in presence of amoxicillin and cloxacillin show that the conformation of bovine serum albumin changed
