  • The dynamic response of an elastic torsion shaft of revolution is analysed by the Line-Loaded Integral Equation Method (LLIEM). A "Dynamic Point Ring Couple" (DPRC) is used as a fictitious fundamental load and is distributed in an elastic space along the axis of the shaft outside the shaft occupation. According to the boundary condition, our problem is reduced to a 1-D Fredholm integral equation of the first kind, which is simpler for solving than that of a 2-D singular integral equation of the same kind obtanied by Boundary Element Method (BEM), for steady periodically varied loading. Numerical example of a shaft with quadratic generator under sinusoidal type of torque is given. Formulas for stresses and dangerous frequency are mentioned.

  • A remarkably large number of integral formulas involving a variety of special functions have been developed by many authors. Also many integral formulas involving various Bessel functions have been presented. Very recently, Choi and Agarwal derived two generalized integral formulas associated with the Bessel function $J_{\nu}(z)$ of the first kind, which are expressed in terms of the generalized (Wright) hypergeometric functions. In the present sequel to Choi and Agarwal's work, here, in this paper, we establish two new integral formulas involving the generalized Bessel functions, which are also expressed in terms of the generalized (Wright) hypergeometric functions. Some interesting special cases of our two main results are presented. We also point out that the results presented here, being of general character, are easily reducible to yield many diverse new and known integral formulas involving simpler functions.

  • The Gauss-Legendre integral method is applied to numerically evaluate the Green function and its derivatives in finite water depth. In this method, the singular point of the function in the traditional integral equation can be avoided. Moreover, based on the improved Gauss-Laguerre integral method proposed in the previous research, a new methodology is developed through the Gauss-Legendre integral. Using this new methodology, the Green function with the field and source points near the water surface can be obtained, which is less mentioned in the previous research. The accuracy and efficiency of this new method is investigated. The numerical results using a Gauss-Legendre integral method show good agreements with other numerical results of direct calculations and series form in the far field. Furthermore, the cases with the field and source points near the water surface are also considered. Considering the computational efficiency, the method using the Gauss-Legendre integral proposed in this paper could obtain the accurate numerical results of the Green function and its derivatives in finite water depth and can be adopted in the near field.

  • A two-dimensional (2D) / three-dimensional (3D) convertible display system based on integral imaging is proposed to adopt a novel switchable point light source array, which is implemented using the polarization modulator and the polarization selective scattering film that transmits or scatters the incident light due to its polarization direction. The 2D and the 3D display modes of the proposed system can be modulated by controlling the polarization direction of back light using the polarization modulator. We explain the basic principles of the proposed system and verify the feasibility of the system through preliminary experiments.

  • In this paper, a boundary-type meshfree method, the boundary radial point interpolation method (BRPIM), is presented for solving boundary value problems of two-dimensional solid mechanics. In the BRPIM, the boundary of a problem domain is represented by a set of properly scattered nodes. A technique is proposed to construct shape functions using radial functions as basis functions. The shape functions so formulated are proven to possess both delta function property and partitions of unity property. Boundary conditions can be easily implemented as in the conventional Boundary Element Method (BEM). The Boundary Integral Equation (BIE) for 2-D elastostatics is discretized using the radial basis point interpolation. Some important parameters on the performance of the BRPIM are investigated thoroughly. Validity and efficiency of the present BRPIM are demonstrated through a number of numerical examples.

  • Green's functions are obtained in exact closed-forms for the elastic fields in bi-material elastic solids with slipping interface and differing transversely isotropic properties induced by concentrated point and ring force vectors. For the concentrated point force vector, the Green functions are expressed in terms of elementary harmonic functions. For the concentrated ring force vector, the Green functions are expressed in terms of the complete elliptic integral. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the effect of anisotropic bi-material properties on the transmission of normal contact stress and the discontinuity of lateral displacements at the slipping interface. The closed-form Green's functions are systematically presented in matrix forms which can be easily implemented in numerical schemes such as boundary element methods to solve elastic problems in computational mechanics.

  • In this paper, we consider two types of fractional boundary value problems, one of them is an implicit type and the other will be an integro-differential type with nonlocal integral multi-point boundary conditions in the frame of generalized Hilfer fractional derivatives. The existence and uniqueness results are acquired by applying Krasnoselskii's and Banach's fixed point theorems. Some various numerical examples are provided to illustrate and validate our results. Moreover, we get some results in the literature as a special case of our current results.

  • In this paper, we establish sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of solutions to a general class of three-point boundary value problems for a coupled system of nonlinear fractional differential equations. The differential operator is taken in the Caputo fractional derivatives. By using Green's function, we transform the derivative systems into equivalent integral systems. The existence is based on Schauder fixed point theorem and contraction mapping principle. Finally, some examples are given to show the applicability of our results.

  • In this paper, we establish coupled fixed point theorems for mixed monotone mappings satisfying nonlinear contraction involving a pair of altering distance functions in ordered G-metric spaces. Via presented theorems we extend and generalize the results of Harjani et al. [J. Harjani, B. L$\acute{o}$pez and K. Sadarangani, Fixed point theorems for mixed monotone operators and applications to integral equations, Nonlinear Anal. 74 (2011) 1749-1760] and Choudhury and Maity [B.S. Choudhury and P. • Partial penetration welding joint is defined as groove welds welded from one side, without steel backing or groove welds welded from both sides but without back gouging. So it has an unwelded portion at the root of the weld. Study of partial penetration weldment fracture behavior includes residual stress analysis and fracture analysis. The J-integral loses its path independency in residual stress field. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a new J-integral, J, which is defined including the effect of plastic deformation and thermal strain. In this study, theoretical formulation and program were developed for the evaluation of J-integral for the crack tip located in the weldment. Evaluations of fracture behavior were performed for partial penetration multi-pass weldment of 25.4mm thick plate by J-integral. From a point of fracture in partial penetration multi-pass welding, it seemed to be better to control root face smaller than 6.35mm.
