Development of Inductive and Capacitive Type Intraocular Pressure (IOP) Sensor to Improve Sensitivity and Minimize Size (민감도 향상과 센서 소형화를 위한 자기 및 용량형 안압센서의 개발)

  • We had presented an inductive type intraocular pressure sensor (L-sensor) in previous work. The distance between a micro coil and a ferrite on the membrane was modulated by pressure, and as a result the inductance and resonant frequency were changed. However, L-sensor has some problems to implant in eyes. First problem is low sensitivity. When L-sensor was implanted in rabbit's eyes, resonant frequency of L-sensor was very hard to detect. Second problem is biocompatibility. Size of L-sensor is $6{\times}7{\times}1.2mm$. When L-sensor was implanted in the eyes, it caused the inflammation. Therefore, this study suggests an inductive and capacitive type IOP sensor (LCsensor). The sensitivity of the LC-sensor 27.3 kHz/mmHg under 60mmHg. It is much larger than 14 kHz/mmHg of the L-sensor. And the size of LC-sensor is 47% smaller than L-sensor. After 2 weeks from the implantation of LC-sensor into rabbit eyes, we measured the changes of resonant frequency of LC-sensor according to increased IOP by Balanced Salt Solution (BSS) injection. As a result, the sensitivity of LC-sensor in in vivo test is 25 kHz/mmHg. That is similar to the sensitivity of in vitro test.

  • This paper presents compact low frequency ultra-wide band(UWB) sensor design and studying of the partial discharge diagnosis by sensing electromagnetic pulse emitted from the partial discharge source with new designed UWB sensor. In this study, we designed new type of compact low frequency UWB sensor based on microstrip antenna technology to detect both low frequency and high frequency band of partial discharge signal. And experiments of offline PD testing on in medium voltage (22.9kV) underground cable and mention the comparative results with the traditional HFCT as a reference sensor in the laboratory. In the series of comparative test, the calibration signal injection test provided with conventional IEC 60270 method and high voltage injection testing are included.

  • In the demonstration-scale offshore $CO_2$ storage project, the monitoring team studies geophysical and geochemical monitoring of $CO_2$ injections in the Yeongil Bay, in which a $CO_2$ test injection (about 100t) was performed in January, 2017 and further injections in larger scales are planned for 2018 and 2019. In this study, the development status of the Korea-type Hydro-Geophone OBS (Ocean Bottom Sensor) and the geochemical baseline survey (focused on some anions of sediment pore water) are suggested as the preliminary results of the pre-injection test.

  • This paper describes Hyundai's research and development work on a flexible fuel vehicle (FFV). The work on FFV has been conducted to evaluate its potential as an alternative to the conventional gasoline vehicle. Hyundai FFV described here can be operated on M85, gasoline, or any of their combinations, in which the methanol concentration is measured by an electrostatic type fuel sensor. For that operation, a special FFV ECU(Eletronic Control Unit) has been developed and incorporated in the FFV. The characteristics affecting FFV operation, such as FFV ECU control strategy and injector flow rate, have been investigated and optimized through the experiment. And various development tests have been performed in view of engine performance, durability, cold startability, and exhaust emissions reduction. The exhaust gas aftertreatment system consisting of manifold type catalyst and secondary air injection system shows good emission reduction performance including formaldehyde, and finally, the possibility of the FFVs as the low emission vehicles is evaluated by presenting NMOG(Non-Methane Organic Gases) levels with respect to M0 and M85. With these results, it is concluded that FFV can be a candidate for the low emission vehicles, but more works on its durability improvement is required.

  • In this paper, we developed an electrochemical glucose sensor strip using a paper substrate. The paper glucose sensor strip is eco-friendly because it uses paper as a substrate, and it has the advantage that it can be manufactured only with four printing, drying and cutting processes. The paper glucose sensor is significantly simplified by the production process than the conventional glucose sensors because the production of only four printing on the paper substrate. In this paper, eco-friendly tracing paper was used to develop a paper glucose sensor strip, and screen-printing technology was used to form a carbon/silver electrode, insulating layer and glucose oxidase(GOD) layer. The developed paper glucose sensor strip has a flat structure with a size of 30 × 4.6 ㎟, and blood injection is a type of direct contact with the exposed enzyme layer above the strip. In this paper, the performance of paper glucose sensor strips was evaluated by analyzing the cyclic voltammetry(CV) and chronoamperometry(CA) characteristics.

  • Recently, reaction injection molding has been used broadly for rapid prototyping, because of its convenience and versatility. Since the properties of molded products are dependent on the process variables and the production is very short(less than 2minutes), the control of process variables is important. Generally, the two significant process variables are degree of cure and temperature of the reactants. In this paper, the relation between the degree of cure and the temperature of reactants was investigated to find the optimal curing condition of reaction injection molding for rapid prototyping. The degree of cure during reaction injection molding was measured by the Lacomtech sensor and dielectrometry equipment employing Wheatstone bridge type circuit.

  • It is important factors for a production system to get a profitable result in quality and reliability process. For this reason, there's are various type of research papers in a certain type of data acquisition and application to reliability and quality of the level of M2M devices. In general, a classification problem of slightly different signal such as sensing data is difficult to do with classical statistical methods. There's required real-time and instantaneous calculation properties in machine process. Especially a type of injection molding machine which has a property to be decided in accordance with short-term cycle process needs a solution that can be done a certain type of decision like as good or bad quality immediately. This paper presents a simple application of Kalman Filtering by single sensing data to injection molding process in order to get a correct answer from the real time sensing data.

Design & implementation of differential sensor using electrostatic capacitance method for detecting Ringer's solution exhaustion (링거액 소진 감지를 위한 정전용량방식의 차동센서 설계 및 제작)

  • This paper proposes a differential structure sensor for detecting Ringer's solution exhaustion, in which three C-type electrodes of 10 mm width are disposed on a ringer hose at a distance of 5 mm each other in the direction of Ringer's solution flow. In the center of middle electrode, two capacitances are formed at the proposed sensor. When ringer hose is filled with Ringer's solution, there is no difference between two capacitances. But capacitance difference exist under the Ringer's solution shortage, because the shortage causes the hose filled with air from the top position electrode. The capacitance difference got to maximum 1.81 pF, when air was filled between top and middle electrode and the last of hose was filled with 10 % dextrose injection Ringer's solution. The capacitance difference varied with hose-wraparound coverage of electrodes as well as the width of them. For hose-wraparound electrode coverage of 90 % and 70 %, the maximum capacitance difference was 1.81 pF and 1.56 pF, respectively. A differential charge amplifier converted the capacitance difference to electric signal, and minimized electrodes' adhering problem and external noise coupling problem.

  • For the air-fuel ratio control in a fuel injection SI engine, the Jump-Ramp control algorithm has been widely adopted by using the on/off type oxygen sensor. But the Jump-Ramp control method has limitation on treating the frequency and amplitude of the air-fuel ratio oscillation. This study suggests another feedback control logic named modulated fuel feedback control, which has a concept of pre-tuned air-fuel ratio oscillation. In the modulation method, the oxygen sensor output is not treated as on/off signal but as analog signal for feedback. By using the modulation method, the frequency and the amplitude of air-fuel ratio oscillation can be adjustable to some extent for improving the conversion efficiency of the Three-Way Catalyst. The result shows that the performance of the modulation method is better than that Jump-Ramp control method in reducing the amplitude of the air-fuel ratio oscillation as well as in increasing the frequency of the air-fuel ratio oscillation.
