A complete high-frequency small-signal circuit model of a 40 Gb/s butterfly electroabsorption modulator integrated laser module is presented for the first time to analyze and optimize its electro-optic (E/O) response and reflection characteristics. An agreement between measured and simulated results demonstrates the accuracy and validity of the procedures. By optimizing the bonding wire length and the impedance of the coplanar waveguide transmission lines, the E/O response increases approximately 5% to 15% from 20 GHz to 33 GHz, while the signal injection efficiency increases from approximately 15% to 25% over 18 GHz to 35 GHz.

Spray impingement and fuel film formation models were developed and incorporated into the computational fluid dynamics code. STAR-CD. The spray/wall interaction process was modeled by considering the change of behaviour with surface temperature conditions and the fuel film formation. We divided the behaviour of fuel droplets after impingement into rebound, spread and splash using the Weber number and the parameter K. The Spray impingement model accounts for mass conservation, energy conservation and heat transfer to the impinging droplets. The fuel film formation model was developed by integrating the continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations along the direction of fuel film thickness. Validation of the models was conducted using previous diesel spray experimental data and the present experimental results for the gasoline spray impingement. In all the cases, the prediction compared reasonably well with the experimental results. The spray impingement and fuel film formation models have been applied to the spray/wall impingement in high speed direct injection diesel engines.
Load variations on a distribution line result in voltage fluctuations at the point of common coupling (PCC). In order to keep the magnitude of the PCC voltage constant at its rated value and obtain zero voltage regulation (ZVR), a D-STATCOM is installed for voltage correction. Moreover, the ZVR mode of a D-STATCOM can also be used to balance the source current during unbalanced loading. For medium voltage and high power applications, a D-STATCOM is realized by the cascaded H-bridge topology. In the ZVR mode, the D-STATCOM may draw unbalanced current and in this process is required to handle different phase powers leading to deviations in the cluster voltages. Zero sequence voltage needs to be injected for ZVR mode, which creates circulating power among the phases of the D-STATCOM. The computed zero sequence voltage and the individual DC capacitor balancing controller help the DC cluster voltage follow the reference voltage. The effectiveness of the control scheme is verified by modeling the system in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The obtained simulations are further validated by the experimental results using a dSPACE DS1106 and five-level D-STATCOM experimental set up.
The influence of density differences on the mixing of the primary loop inventory and the Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) water in the downcomer of a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) was analyzed at the ROssendorf COolant Mixing (ROCOM) test facility. ROCOM is a 1:5 scaled model of a German PWR, and has been designed for coolant mixing studies. It is equipped with advanced instrumentation, which delivers high-resolution information for temperature or boron concentration fields. This paper presents a ROCOM experiment in which water with higher density was injected into a cold leg of the reactor model. Wire-mesh sensors measuring the tracer concentration were installed in the cold leg and upper and lower part of the downcomer. The experiment was run with 5% of the design flow rate in one loop and 10% density difference between the ECC and loop water especially for the validation of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS CFX. A mesh with two million control volumes was used for the calculations. The effects of turbulence on the mean flow were modelled with a Reynolds stress turbulence model. The results of the experiment and of the numerical calculations show that mixing is dominated by buoyancy effects: At higher mass flow rates (close to nominal conditions) the injected slug propagates in the circumferential direction around the core barrel. Buoyancy effects reduce this circumferential propagation. Therefore, density effects play an important role during natural convection with ECC injection in PWRs. ANSYS CFX was able to predict the observed flow patterns and mixing phenomena quite well.

We demonstrated a wide-fan-angle flat-top irradiance pattern with a very narrow linewidth by using an aspheric lens and a long-pitch reflective diffraction grating. First, we numerically designed a diffraction-based linear beam homogenizer. The structure of the Al diffraction grating with an isosceles triangular shape was optimized with 0.1-mm pitch, 35.5° slope angle, and 0.02-mm radius of the rounding top. According to the numerical results, the linear uniformity of the irradiance was more sensitive to the working distance than to the shape of the Al grating. The designed Al grating reflector was fabricated by using a conventional mold injection and an Al coating process. A uniform linear irradiance of 405-nm laser diode with a 100-mm flat-top length and 0.176-mm linewidth was experimentally demonstrated at 140-mm working distance. We believe that our proposed linear beam homogenizer can be used in various potential applications at a precise inspection system such as three-dimensional morphology scanner with line lasers.

Water aeration is an effective water treatment process, which involves the injection of air or air-water mixture into water treatment reservoir commonly through pipes. The main purpose of water aeration is to maintain healthy levels of dissolved oxygen (DO), which is the most important water quality factor. The pipes' operating conditions are important for controlling the efficiency and effectiveness of aeration process. Many studies have been conducted on two-phase flows in pipes, however, there are a few studies to deal with small s ale in millimeter. The main objective of this study is to perform 2-dimensional two-phase simulations inside various straight pipes using the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) OpenFOAM (Open source Field Operation And Manipulation) tools to examine the influence of flow patterns on bubble size, which is closely related to DO concentration in a water body. The both flow regimes, laminar and turbulence, have been considered in this study. For turbulence, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) has been applied. The coalescence and breakage of bubbles caused by random collisions and turbulent eddies, respectively, are considered in this research. Sauter mean bubble diameter and water velocity are compared against experimental data. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental measurements.

Material corrosion in nuclear power plant (NPP) is not controlled only by amine injection but also by ion exchange (IX) which is the best option to remove trace Na+. This study was conducted to understand the Na+ leakage characteristics of IX beds packed with ethanolamine-form (ETAH-form) and hydrogen-form (H-form) resins in the simulated water-steam cycle in terms of intrinsic behaviors of four kinds of cation-exchange resins through ASTM test and Vanselow mass action modeling. Na+ was inappreciably escaped throughout the channel created in resin layer. Na+ leakage from IX bed was non-linearly raised because of its decreasing selectivity with increasing Na+ capture and with increasing the fraction of ETAH-form resin. Na+ did not reach the breakthrough earlier than ETAH+ and NH4+ due to the increased selectivity of Na+ to the cation-exchange resin (H+ < ETAH+ < NH4+ ≪ Na+) at the feed composition. Na+ leakage from the resin bed filled with small particles was decreased due to the enhanced dynamic IX processes, regardless of its low selectivity. Thus, the particle size is a predominant factor among intrinsic properties of IX resin to reduce Na+ leakage from the condensate polishing plant (CPP) in NPPs.
The article deals with the possibilities of vibration stimulation. Based on the stability analysis, a multi-scale approach with a modified whole-building model is implemented. The motion equation is configured for a controlled bridge with a MDOF (multiple dynamic degrees of freedom) Tuned Mass Damper (M-TMD) system, and a combination of welding, excitation, and control effects is used with its advanced packages and commercial software submodel. Because the design of high-performance and efficient structural systems has been of interest to practical engineers, systematic methods of structural and functional synthesis of control systems must be used in many applications. The smart method can be stabilized by properly controlling the high frequency injection limits. The simulation results illustrate that the multiple modeling method used is consistent with the accuracy and high computational efficiency. The M-TMD system, even with moderate reductions in critical pressure, can significantly suppress overall feedback on an unregulated design.
Pharmacokinetics of prednisolone and prednisone undergoing reversible interconversion were analyzed from the model including this metabolic process. Blood samples were drawn serially upto 12 hours after I,V. bolus injection of 1 mg/kg prednisolone sodium phosphate and prednisone into 8 dogs as a crossover manner. Plasma concentrations of those two steroids were simultaneously measured with the method of HPLC. After injection, plasma concentrations of administered prednisolone and prednisone were declined with a biexponential pattern and their metabolic partner was rapidly formed. Plasma concentrations of those metaboite were decayed in parallel with their parent steroids throught the elimination phase. Apparent clearances of prednisolone and prednisone were $11.1{\pm}2.0\;ml/min/kg$ and $45.9{\pm}6.4\;ml/min/kg$, and they were underestimated by 29.4% and 33.6% compared to their real clearances$(15.7{\pm}4.4\;and\;69.2{\pm}17.7\;ml/min/kg)$ estimated using reversible interconversion model. Apparent volume of distribution of prednisolone$(1.32{\pm}0.43\;L/kg)$ and prednisone$(4.81{\pm}2.75\;L/kg)$ were overestimated by 53.5 and 52.7% and were compared to the real volumes $(0.86{\pm}0.30\;and\;3.15{\pm}2.13\;L/kg)$. Mean residence time of prednisolone$(2.0{\pm}0.61\;h)$ and prednisone$(1.74{\pm}0.74\;h)$ were much longer than the real sojourn time$(0.93{\pm}0.26\;and\;0.88{\pm}0.54\;h)$. Essential clearances In the reversible interconversion were greater as following orders: $Cl_{21}$(44.3 ml/min/kg) > $Cl_{20}$(24.2 ml/min/kg) > $Cl_{12}$ (7.9 ml/min/kg) > $Cl_{10}$(7.8 ml/min/kg). Estimated mean values of RF, EE, $%X^1_{ss}$ and $RHO^2_1$ were $0.31{\pm}0.10$, $1.49{\pm}0.23$, $69.3{\pm}16.7%$ and $0.65{\pm}0.10$, respectively. These results suggested that true pharmacokinetic parameters estimated from the model including reversible interconversion were significantly different from the apparent parameters estimated from the conventional mamillary model, and disposition of these two steroids seemed to be well explained by the model including reversible interconversion.
