  • Fast block motion estimation technique is proposed to reduce the computational complexity in video coding. In the conventional methods the size of search region is fixed. For small motion regions like background the small size of sea of search region is enough to find a block motion. But for active motion regions the large size of search region is preferred to figure out the accurate motion vector. Therefore, it is reasonable that a block motion is estimated in the variable search region (both the size and the position of it). That is to say, the search region varies according to the predicted motion characteristics of a block. The block motion in video frames has temporal continuity and then the search region of a current block is predicted using the block motion of previous blocks. The computational complexity of the proposed technique is significantly reduced with a good picture quality compared to the conventional methods.

  • Information is an essential factor leading the rapid progress which is one of the distinguished characteristics in modem society. As more information is required and as more is supplied by individuals, governmental units, businesses, and educational institutions, the greater will be the requirement for efficient methods of communication. One possibility for improving the information dissemination process is to use computers. The capabilities of such machine are beginning to be used in the process of Information storage, retrieval and dissemination. An important problems, that must be carefully examined is whether one technique for information retrieval is better for worse than another. This paper examines problem of how to evaluate an information retrieval system. One specific approach is a cost accounting model for use in studying how to minimize the cost of operating a mechanized retrieval system. Through the use of cost analysis, the model provides a method for comparative evaluation between systems. The general cost accounting model of the literature retrieval system being designed by this study are given below. 1. The total cost accounting model of the literature retrieval system. The total cost of the literature retrieval system = (the cost per unit of user time X the amount of user time) + ( the cost per unit of system time X the amount of system time) 2. System cost accounting model system cost = (the pre-search system cost per unit of time X time) + (the search system cost per unit of time X time) + (the post search system cost per unit of time X time) 1) Pre-search system cost per unit of time = cost of channel per unit time + cost of central processing unit per unit time + cost of storage per unit time 2) Search system cost per unit of time = comparison cost + document representation cost. 3) Post-search system cost per unit of time. = cost of channel per unit time + cost of central processing unit per unit time + cost of storage per unit time 3. User cost accounting model Total user cost = [pre-search user cost per unit of time X (time + additional time) ] + [search user cost per unit of time X (time + additional time) ] + [post-search user cost per unit of time X (time + additional time) ].

  • Among the compression methods of moving picture information, a motion estimation method is used to remove time-repeating. The Block Matching Algorithm in motion estimation methods is the commonest one. In recent days, it is required the more advanced high quality in many image processing fields, for example HDTV, etc. Therefore, we have to accomplish not by means of Partial Search Algorithm, but by means of Full Search Algorithm in Block Matching Algorithm. In this paper, it is suggested a structure that reduce total calculation quantity and size, because the structure using Bit Plane select and use only 3bit of 8bit luminance signal.

  • Recently, neural architecture search (NAS) has received increasing attention as it can replace human experts in designing the architecture of neural networks for different tasks and has achieved remarkable results in many challenging tasks. In this study, a path-based computation neural architecture encoder (PCE) was proposed. Our PCE first encodes the computation of information on each path in a neural network, and then aggregates the encodings on all paths together through an attention mechanism, simulating the process of information computation along paths in a neural network and encoding the computation on the neural network instead of the structure of the graph, which is more consistent with the computational properties of neural networks. We performed an extensive comparison with eight encoding methods on two commonly used NAS search spaces (NAS-Bench-101 and NAS-Bench-201), which included a comparison of the predictive capabilities of performance predictors and search capabilities based on two search strategies (reinforcement learning-based and Bayesian optimization-based) when equipped with different encoders. Experimental evaluation shows that PCE is an efficient encoding method that effectively ranks and predicts neural architecture performance, thereby improving the search efficiency of neural architectures.

  • Web documents with useful information are widely available on the internet and they are accessible with web search service. For this reason, web search services study better ways to collect more web documents, but have a difficulty figuring out the coverage of these web pages. This paper is intended to find ways to evaluate the current coverage assessment methods and suggest more effective coverage assessment technique that is, sampling internet web documents equally, monitoring how they are classified on web search services, in an attempt to assess both absolute and relative coverage of the web search engines. The paper also presents the comparison among Korean web search services using the suggested methods.the absolute and relative coverage was highest in Google followed by Naver and Empas. The result is expected to help estimating coverage of web search services.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the guidelines for organizing and maintaining their subject directory search engines which serve effective search results of web documents. The methods of this study are to review and analyze some directory search engines for finding problems of them and review literatures concerned with classification theory and previous studies. As results, this study suggests the guidelines for preparing the systematic subject directory scheme that is adapted to the internet directory search engines related to general andlor special subject fields through using the above guidelines.

  • In the vibration target localization algorithms based on time difference of arrival (TDOA), Fang algorithm is often used in practice because of its simple calculation. However, when the delay estimation error is large, the localization equation of Fang algorithm has no solution. In order to solve this problem, one dimensional search location algorithm based on TDOA is proposed in this paper. The concept of search is introduced in the algorithm. The distance d1 between any single sensor and the vibration target is considered as a search variable. The vibration target location is searched by changing the value of d1 in the two-dimensional plane. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to traditional methods in localization accuracy.

  • The Internet has become an increasingly important source for finding the right employees, so more and more companies post their job openings on the Web. The large amount and dynamic nature of career recruiting information causes information overload problems for job seekers. To assist Internet users in searching for the right job, a range of research and commercial systems were developed over the past 10 years. Surprisingly, the majority of existing job search systems support just one, rarely two ways of information access. In contrast, our work focused on exploring a value of comprehensive access to job information in a single system (i.e., a system which supports multiple ways). We designed Proactive, a recommendation system providing comprehensive and personalized information access. To assist the varied needs of users, Proactive has four information retrieval methods - a navigable list of jobs, keyword-based search, implicit preference-based recommendations, and explicit preference-based recommendations. This paper introduces the Proactive and reports the results of a study focusing on the experimental evaluation of these methods. The goal of the study was to assess whether all of the methods are necessary for users to find relevant jobs and to what extent different methods can meet different users' information requirements.

  • A terminology system capable of providing interpretations and classification information on a multilingual science and technology(S&T) terminology is essential to establish an integrated search environment for multilingual S&T information systems. This paper aims to build a base system to manage an integrated information system for multilingual S&T terminology search. It introduces a method to build a search system for S&T terminologies internally linked through the multilingual semantic network and a search technique on the multiple linked nodes. In order to provide a foundation for further analysis researches, it also attempts to suggest a basic approach to interpret terminology clusters generated with those two search methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze information search according to consumer's prior knowledge and degree of importance of products. Questionnare survey method was used in this research. The sample was taken from 548 university students in Seoul from 19th of June to 26th of June in 1997. Statistical methods used in this study were Frequency, Percentage, Regression and path Analysis. The major findings are summarized as follows; 1) The level of Consumer's prior knowledge showed somewhat middle. 2) Degree of importance of products showed in order of quality, A/S extension exchange price reliance of a manufacturing company a design etc. 3) Information search for the consumer's prior knowledge and importance showed high on the whole. The more prior knowledge consumer have the better they recognize for the importance of products. Therefore consumers are more likely to search information.
