HOMOTOPY TYPE OF A 2-CATEGORY

  • The classical group completion theorem states that under a certain condition the homology of ${\Omega}BM$ is computed by inverting ${\pi}_0M$ in the homology of M. McDuff and Segal extended this theorem in terms of homology fibration. Recently, more general group completion theorem for simplicial spaces was developed. In this paper, we construct a symmetric monoidal 2-category ${\mathcal{A}}$. The 1-morphisms of ${\mathcal{A}}$ are generated by three atomic 2-dimensional CW-complexes and the set of 2-morphisms is given by the group of path components of the space of homotopy equivalences of 1-morphisms. The main part of the paper is to compute the homotopy type of the group completion of the classifying space of ${\mathcal{A}}$, which is shown to be homotopy equivalent to ${\mathbb{Z}}{\times}BAut^+_{\infty}$.

Hybrid-type stretchable interconnects with double-layered liquid metal-on-polyimide serpentine structure

  • We demonstrate a new double-layer structure for stretchable interconnects, where the top surface of a serpentine polyimide support is coated with a thin eutectic gallium-indium liquid metal layer. Because the liquid metal layer is constantly fixed on the solid serpentine body in this liquid-on-solid structure, the overall stretching is accomplished by widening the solid frame itself, with little variation in the total length and cross-sectional area of the current path. Therefore, we can achieve both invariant resistance and infinite fatigue life by combining the stretchable configuration of the underlying body with the freely deformable nature of the top liquid conductor. Further, we fabricated various types of double-layer interconnects as narrow as 10 ㎛ using the roll-painting and lift-off patterning technique based on conventional photolithography and quantitatively validated their beneficial properties. The new interconnecting structure is expected to be widely used in applications requiring high-performance and high-density stretchable circuits owing to its superior reliability and capability to be monolithically integrated with thin-film devices.

읽기 순서 바꾸기 : 타블렛PC 전자만화책의 레이아웃 연출 (Breaking Z-path : A Digital Comics Layout Strategy for Tablet PC)

  • 만화는 넓이와 위치값을 가지고 있는 연속적인 칸을 배열하여 이야기를 전개하므로 문자언어인 텍스트에 비해 공간 예술에 가까우나, 보통 만화를 읽을 때 한 페이지 안에서 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로, 위에서 아래쪽으로 시선이 흐르는 전형적인 텍스트 읽기 관습에서 벗어나지 않는다. 그러나 만화 공간 문법의 여러 요소에 따라 부분적으로 읽기 순서가 뒤바뀌는 경우가 있다. 본 논문은 칸의 배치와 내용, 혹은 프레임 바깥에 존재하는, 만화책을 읽는 독자 시선의 흐름 순서를 뒤바꾸는 여러 가지 요소들을 분석해보았다. 나아가, 책이라는 매체와 가장 흡사하나 페이지 제한이 없는 무한 캔버스인 타블렛 PC용 전자만화책의 공간에서, 상호작용 기능을 활용하여 읽기 순서를 바꾸는 레이아웃 기법을 제안해 보았다. 이에 향후 전개될 타블렛 PC용 전자만화의 레이아웃 형태를 전망하는데 의의를 두었다.

계면균열 문제에 대한 L적분의 응용 (Application of L Integral to Interface Crack Problems)

  • 본 논문에서는 균열면이 원호(circular arc)를 이루고, Comninou 모델과 같이 균열면의 일부가 접촉되어 있는 경우 L적분이 적분경로에 무관함을 증명하고 이를 이용하여 재료가 서로 다른 원형 개재물과 기재와의 경계면에 존재하는 계면 균열에서의 응력확대계수를 구하는 방법에 대해 살펴보았다. 기지가 무한 고체이고 접촉역이 작아 접촉역의 존재가 균열선단에서 멀리 떨어진 곳에서의 응력장에 거의 영향을 끼치지 아`는 경우에는 접촉역을 가정하지 않은 문제에 대한 해, 즉 진동특성을 나타내는 해로 부터, L적분의 성질을 이용하여, 접촉역을 가정하였을 때의 응력확대 계수를 간단한 꼴로 표시할 수 있었고, 유한의 기지에 원형 개재물이 존재하는 문제에 대해서는 F.E.M을 사용하여 L적분을 계산함으로써 응력확대계수를 구할 수 있었다.

진동 인텐시티 계측 방법을 이용한 무한보의 손상감지에 관한 기초 연구 (A Feasibility Study on the Damage Detection of Infinite Beams Using the Structural Intensity Measurement Technique)

  • The structural intensities have been applied to understand a source point and the path of vibrational energy flows in interested structures by many researchers. In this paper, a feasibility study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of a damaged beam with a inflicted open crack using the structural intensities. The damaged beam was taken as a continuous system with equivalent bending stiffness and the flexural vibrations were only considered in numerical simulation and experiments. A four(4)-transducer array was used to measure the flexural vibrations of the beam and the structural intensities were estimated by means of cross spectral density method. As a result, the magnitude changes of the structural intensities could be observed in the vicinity of the damage location and a damage index was newly proposed to identify the damage zone. It has been confirmed that the measurement of the structural intensities was simple and effective method to find out the damage zone.

3차원 쐐기형 영역에서의 음향파 전달 이론 (Theory of Acoustic Propagation in 3 Dimensional Wedge Domain)

  • 쐐기형 영역에서 전파되는 음향파는 다음 3가지 성분으로 분류할 수 있다 : 직접 전달 경로에 의한 성분, 경계면으로 부터의 반사에 의한 상(image) 성분 그리고 정점에 의한 산란 성분, 2개의 평면으로 경계가 구성된 쐐기(또는 봉우리) 영역에서 점원에 의한 3차원적인 시간 조화 장(field)에 대한 Helmholtz 방정식의 새로운 해를 구하였으며, 그 해는 위의 3가지 성분을 모두 내포하고 있다. 이 해는 정상모우드 들의 무한 급수로 이루어졌으며 각 모우드 계수는 Gegenbauer polynomial을 포함하는 유한적분으로 주어진다. 위의 해석해를 사용하여 봉우리 영역에서 음파의 분포를 계산하였다.

기계자수 CAD시스템을 활용한 자수 텍스타일 디자인 전개 (The Development of Embroidery Textile Design Using Machine Embroidery CAD System)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop machine embroidery textile designs for each technique that can be expressed using a single-headed computer embroidery sewing machine through a machine embroidery CAD system. For research, embroidery CAD utilized the Artistic digitizer, and the guillotine computer-mechanical magnetization machine used ELNA. The design concept was limited to portraits and relics of independence activists in six memorial halls built in Korea. The results of this study are as follows. First, it was found that the machine embroidery texture, which could only be produced by industries in the past, can be expand in the infinite creative embroidery design area by enabling the digitalization of motif images and the simulation of machine embroidery techniques through various layout options. Second, in the development of machine embroidery textures, it was found that the setting of the width, height, axis ratio, stitch, object, path, length, density, layer order, etc. in embroidery CAD is a very important part of determining the completeness of the embroidery results. Third, mechanical embroidery textile designs, which can be represented by single-head computer machine embroidery machine were able to show colorful embroidery results that differs from the original image by using seven main techniques and five deep technique alone or in combination, according to the designer's intention.

유한요소 교호법을 이용한 삼차원 균열의 탄소성 J 적분 해석 (Analysis of Elastic-Plastic J Integrals for 3-Dimensional Cracks Using Finite Element Alternating Method)

  • SGBEM(Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method)-FEM alternating method has been proposed by Nikishkov, Park and Atluri. In the proposed method, arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional crack problems can be solved by alternating between the crack solution in an infinite body and the finite element solution without a crack. In the previous study, the SGBEM-FEM alternating method was extended further in order to solve elastic-plastic crack problems and to obtain elastic-plastic stress fields. For the elastic-plastic analysis the algorithm developed by Nikishkov et al. is used after modification. In the algorithm, the initial stress method is used to obtain elastic-plastic stress and strain fields. In this paper, elastic-plastic J integrals for three-dimensional cracks are obtained using the method. For that purpose, accurate values of displacement gradients and stresses are necessary on an integration path. In order to improve the accuracy of stress near crack surfaces, coordinate transformation and partitioning of integration domain are used. The coordinate transformation produces a transformation Jacobian, which cancels the singularity of the integrand. Using the developed program, simple three-dimensional crack problems are solved and elastic and elastic-plastic J integrals are obtained. The obtained J integrals are compared with the values obtained using a handbook solution. It is noted that J integrals obtained from the alternating method are close to the values from the handbook.

Partial Confinement Utilization for Rectangular Concrete Columns Subjected to Biaxial Bending and Axial Compression

  • The prediction of the actual ultimate capacity of confined concrete columns requires partial confinement utilization under eccentric loading. This is attributed to the reduction in compression zone compared to columns under pure axial compression. Modern codes and standards are introducing the need to perform extreme event analysis under static loads. There has been a number of studies that focused on the analysis and testing of concentric columns. On the other hand, the augmentation of compressive strength due to partial confinement has not been treated before. The higher eccentricity causes smaller confined concrete region in compression yielding smaller increase in strength of concrete. Accordingly, the ultimate eccentric confined strength is gradually reduced from the fully confined value $f_{cc}$ (at zero eccentricity) to the unconfined value $f^{\prime}_c$ (at infinite eccentricity) as a function of the ratio of compression area to total area of each eccentricity. This approach is used to implement an adaptive Mander model for analyzing eccentrically loaded columns. Generalization of the 3D moment of area approach is implemented based on proportional loading, fiber model and the secant stiffness approach, in an incremental-iterative numerical procedure to achieve the equilibrium path of $P-{\varepsilon}$ and $M-{\varphi}$ response up to failure. This numerical analysis is adapted to assess the confining effect in rectangular columns confined with conventional lateral steel. This analysis is validated against experimental data found in the literature showing good correlation to the partial confinement model while rendering the full confinement treatment unsafe.

AC transport current loss analysis for anti-parallel current flow in face-to-face stacks of superconducting tapes

  • In this study we investigated ac transport current losses in the face to face stack for the anti-parallel current flow, and compared the electromagnetic properties with those of the single SC tape as well as those of the same stack for the parallel current path. The gap between the SC tapes in the stack varied in order to verify the electromagnetic influence of the neighbors when current flows in opposite direction, and the model was implemented in the finite element method program by the commercial software, COMSOL Multiphysics 4.2a. Conclusively speaking, the loss was remarkably decreased for the anti-parallel current case, which is attributed the magnetic flux compensation between the SC layers due to the opposite direction of the current flows. As the gap between SC tapes was increased, the loss mitigation became less effective. Besides, the current density distribution is very flat cross the sample width for the narrower gap case, which is believed to be benefit for the power electric system. These results are all in good agreement with those predicted theoretically for an infinite bifilar stack.
