  • parallel bonding wires separaated with a screeing bonding wire are proposed and characterized in order to redue mutual coupling and parasitics of high-speed and high-density device packaging. The mehtod of moments (MoM) with the incorporation of the ohmic loss has been used in a wide range of frequencies. From the calculated results, we have found that the screening bonding wire effectively reduces inductive and capacitive crostalk levels more than 3dB. the parasitic self inductance is also reduced more than 12% by the screening effect. Therefore, for a general VLSi package, the packaging density can be increased more than 30% using the screening bonding wire. This screeing bonding wire and the analysis can be effectively used to reduce crosstalk and increase packaging density of high density devices.

  • This paper presents the modeling method of $3{\Phi}$ phase-controlled rectifier considering the overlap interval for the drive of DC motor in the Matlab environment. The model is constructed by the module-based method and therefore it is appropriate in the research of the closed-loop controlled power electronic system in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The model of SCR is used as the element for the power transformation. The simulation results show that the overlap interval from the effect of the input inductance is accurate.

  • A non-contact battery charger which transfers energy using magnetic field without any electrical contacts is designed using half-bridge series resonant converter. This converter utilizes series resonance to reduce the undesirable effect of large leakage inductance of the non-contact transformer and ZVS operation can reduce switching losses. In this paper. analysis and design procedure of half-bridge series resonant converter with non-contact transformer is presented. Input voltage is 85VAC ${\sim}$ 270VAC, output voltage and current is 4.1V and 800mA, respectively. Furthermore, a method for calculating the secondary current of the transformer to control battery charging current in constant current charging mode which is required for litium-ion battery is proposed and the performance is verified from experiments.

  • The effect of power supply voltage on the performance limits in a laboratory Magneto-rheological fluid based device was identified by experiments. It suggests that the frequency range of motion for control be limited by the voltage attenuation due to the coil inductance and the maximum power supply voltage set for practical use of MRF devices. In this work, the magnetic and electrical characteristics of MRF device are investigated and a design procedure is formulated to achieve the desired performance for a given power supply.

  • A substrate network model characterizing substrate effect of submicron MOS transistors for RF operation and its parameter extraction with physically meaningful values are presented. The proposed substrate network model includes a single resistance and inductance originated from ring-type substrate contacts around active devices. Model parameters are extracted from S-parameter data measured from common-bulk configured MOS transistors with floating gate and use where needed with out any optimization. The proposed modeling technique has been applied to various-sized MOS transistors. Excellent agreement the measurement data and the simulation results using extracted substrate network model up to 30GHz.

  • In this paper, we analyze the microwave characteristics of traveling-wave electro-absorption modulator (TW-EAM) considering the microwave feedline and the impedance mismatch. The TW-EAM is analyzed by using the equivalent circuit model. The capacitance and the inductance of the equivalent circuit are evaluated by using 3-dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) method, while the microwave feedline is analyzed by momentum method. In a viewpoint of microwave characteristics, we present the effect of the structure and the length of microwave feedline.

  • A novel high-Q vertical jinductor for MMICs is proposed and characterized in a wide range of frequencies (DC~10 GHz) using the numerical methods such as the PeEC(partial equivalent element circuit), the FDM (finite difference method) and the MoM (method of moments). Electrical superiority of the vertical inductor to the horizontal is observed in terms of the magnetic flux linkage and the ground screening effect. The veritcal bondwire inductor is designed in consideration of the wire bonding feasibility and the optimum electrical peformance. This structure is also analyzed using the equivalent circuit and compared with the conventional spiral inductors From the calculated results, high Q-factor, inductance, and cut-off frequency are observed to be inherent characteristics of the veritcal bondwire inductor.

  • The authors designed a high temperature superconductor (HTS) racetrack coil for a 10 MW class superconducting synchronous wind turbine generator. The designed HTS racetrack coil was analyzed by an electromagnetic finite element method (FEM) to determine the magnetic field distribution, inductance, stress, etc. This paper describes the stress analysis and structure design result of the HTS racetrack coil for 10 MW class superconducting synchronous wind turbine generators, considering orthotropic material properties, a large magnetic field, and the resulting Lorentz force effect. Insulated HTS racetrack coils and no-insulation HTS racetrack coils were also considered. According to the results of the stress analysis, the no-insulation HTS racetrack coil results were better than the insulated HTS racetrack coil results.

  • This paper proposes a new speed and flux estimation method which has the robustness against the variation of the electrical parameters of the motor and the superiority in the dynamic characteristics. In the proposed method, the stator currents and the rotor fluxes are observed on the stationary reference frame using the sliding mode concept. And the rotor speed is estimated using the current estimation errors and the observed rotor fluxes based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Also a design method of the observer gain is proposed to minimize the effect of the speed estimation error on the rotor flux observation. The experimental results are shown to verify that the proposed method shows the excellent performances under the variations of motor resistance and inductance.
