  • In this paper, we study the saddlepoint approximations for the ratio of two independent sequences of random variables. In Section 2, we review the saddlepoint approximation to the probability density function. In section 3, we derive an saddlepoint approximation formular for the tail probability by following Daniels'(1987) method. In Section 4, we represent a numerical example which shows that the errors are small even for small sample size.

  • Two-piece double exponential distribution (TPDE) with one piece $(X \leq 0)$ having the scale parameter $\theta_1$ while the other piece (X>0) having $\theta_2$ is considered here. Distribution of the sum of n-independent variables from such a distribution is obtained. Special cases of this distribution are also treated. Next, distribution of the ratio of two independent (TPDE) variables is derived. As an extension, distribution of $x_1/x_2x_3$ is expressed terms of hypergeometric functions. A small table gives the power of the test regarding double exponential against (TPDE).

  • This research investigated the effect of socio-economic variables and economic distress variables on the university students' coping behavior in meal management. The data used in this research included 544 university students in Ulsan Areas. The independent explanatory power of socio-economic variables was larger than economic distress variables. But the explanatory power was increased in the regression analysis model that was included both the socio-economic variables and the economic distress variables. The influencing variables that effected the level of coping behavior in meal management were the amount of discretionary expenditure, gender, status of housing, employment distress and income distress.

  • The rate of convergence for an almost surely convergent series $S_n={\Sigma^n}_{i-1}X_i$ of independent random variables is studied in this paper. More specifically, when S$_{n}$ converges almost surely to a random variable S, the tail series $T_n{\equiv}$ S - S_{n-1} = {\Sigma^\infty}_{i-n} X_i$ is a well-defined sequence of random variables with T$_{n}$ $\rightarrow$ 0 almost surely. Conditions are provided so that for a given positive sequence {$b_n, n {\geq$ 1}, the limit law sup$_{\kappa}\geqn | T_{\kappa}|/b_n \rightarrow$ 0 holds. This result generalizes a result of Nam and Rosalsky [4].

  • This paper derives an effective shape of the ferromagnetic pole pieces (low-speed rotor) for the reduction of transmission torque ripple in a magnetic-geared machine based on a Box-Behnken design (BBD). In particular, using a non-linear finite element method (FEM) based on 2-D numerical analysis, we conduct a numerical investigation and analysis between independent variables (selected by the BBD) and reaction variables. In addition, we derive a regression equation for reaction variables according to the independent variables by using multiple regression analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA). We assess the validity of the optimized design by comparing characteristics of the optimized model derived from a response surface analysis and an initial model.

  • This paper deals with an optimal process control problem in production of hull structural steel plate with high defective rate. The main quality characteristic(dependent variable) is the internal quality(defect) of plates and is dependent on process parameters(independent variables). The dependent variable(quality characteristics) has three categorical ordinal data and there are 35 independent variables(29 continuous variables and 6 categorical variables). In this paper, we determine the main factors and to develop the mathematical model between internal quality predicted probabilities and the main factors. Secondly, we find out the optimal process condition of main factors through analysis of variance(ANOVA) using simulation. We consider three models to obtain the main factors and the optimal process condition: linear, quadratic, error models.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the relationship between 12 independent variables and the foodservice productivity in the welfare facilities for the elderly. The results of the study were summarized as follows; 1. 67.2 percentage of surveyed welfare facilities for the elderly were not managed by dietitians, so menu planning, food purchasing, management of eqipment and facilities, sanitary practice, and management of work were administered nonsystematically. 2. From the results of factor analysis of variables related to the affecting productivity, 5 factors were generated and the factors were named ‘foodservice scale’, ‘human resourcs’, ‘use of food’, ‘use of equipment’ and ‘use of document’, and then the relation between the factor variables and productivity was examined by multiple regression anlysis.

  • A customer loyalty program (i.e., FFP) has become more important to keep loyal customers especially for legacy airlines. Therefore, the researchers intended to examine the elements of an airline loyalty program and how these elements influenced the effects of the loyalty program. To set up the research framework, the commitment-trust model (i.e., KMV model) in the loyalty program was used in this study. Shared values, benefits, serviceabilities, and affiliated companies were considered as independent variables (i.e., elements of FFP). Trust and commitment added as mediating variables and customers' loyalty were examined as a dependent variable. A survey has been conducted. All independent variables had positive relationships with trust and commitment and trust influenced commitment. Lastly, the mediating variables had positive effects on customers' loyalty.

  • Self sensing symptoms were. surveyed by interview from the workers using lacquer-thinner(Male 35, Female 28). And the data was converted to point. Independent variables were state of the medication, education, alcohol drinking, smoking, living and past occupational history. Dependent variable was the point. The relationship between independent variables and the depenent variable was studied. The result of the study were briefly summarized as below. 1. The difference of point between sex and medication statement was significant by statistical test. 2. Age and past occupational history were not important variables. 3. The Multiple Stepwise Regression Equation obtained by this study was not useful.
