  • This paper uses the modified gravity model of international trade to examine the impact of ODA on the export of Korea to 28 aid recipients. In this perspective, the study includes recipient's economic size, trade openness, population, donor's scale of aid and distance between them as key determinants of the export of Korea by using panel data over the period of 2005-2012. To do this task, important econometric methods are fulfilled to test the model adequately, such as panel unit root and panel co-integration test. In addition, the study incorporated the panel OLS, panel GLM and panel EGLS methods. The empirical analysis clearly showed that an increase in Korea's ODA promotes its own exports. The coefficients of recipients's per capita GDP, population and trade openness have a positive impact on Korea's export respectively, while distance between them has a negative impact. Regarding regional dummy variables, aid for the region of Africa and America have a negative impact on Korea's export. Overall, the main implication of this study is that even if it emphasized Korea's economic interests as determinants of ODA disbursements, but it also suggests that an improvement of recipient's economic development, income distribution and educational environment can be an important concern in the future.

  • Ownership of an asset can be identified with the right to exercise "residual control" where the contract is silent about decision rights, or with the right to receive any "residual returns" that remain after contractual. obligations are fulfilled. Although the concept of "ownership" seems reasonably clear in many of the cases, the concepts of residual control and the residual returns that define ownership are actually quite elusive. For large corporations, there is really no single individual who owns both the residual returns and the residual control. Despite the limited qualifications, ownership is clearly. the most common and effective meas to motivate people to create, maintain, and improve the value of assets. In this paper, we try to clarify the relationships among financial structure, ownership, and corporate control with the concept of ownership defined as the residual control and the residual returns, Financial securities are not just claims to part of a firm's net income. They give the security holder certain rights. A careful matching of rights of control and returns can create incentives that increase total value of the firms. In the corporate firms, managers, lenders, and shareholders have different interests. And the financial structure affects how different those interests are and what decisions management will make. Managers are, in general, better informed than investors about the firm's prospects. The financial decisions by managers may affect investors' beliefs and, therefore, the price of shares and the value of the firm.

  • The study introduces the case of initial adoption and convergence of accounting system under the K-IFRS by the quasi-government entity, the National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF). Followings are the methodology used in the study. (1) The study provides several accounting issues, their impact on the financial information of the NRF and implications about NRF's financial information in the course of convergence of accounting system under the K-IFRS. (2) As examples of accounting issues, the NRF reflected several accounting difference such as revaluation of fixed assets, economic useful life, depreciation method, reclassification of investment, representation of transfer revenue from the government, the timing of revenue recognition, and employ benefits, etc. As results of adjustments under the K-IFRS, the NRF decreased 1,109 billion of total assets and 1,064 billion of total liabilities. Also, increase in operating expenses results a slight decrease in net income, which may have an impact on future management evaluation of the NRF. A successful case of K-IFRS adoption by the NRF which brings deep insight on adoption and convergence of new accounting system to other quasi-government entity.

  • This study aims at explaining organizational mechanisms of inequality that has been rising rapidly alongside the proliferation of irregular employment in the post-crisis Korean labor market. It argues that inequality is not sufficiently explained by individual gap in human capital or widespread marketization as such. Social categories into which each individual worker falls seems more important as a source of labor market inequality. Employment types that are composed of regular and irregular employment do not simply indicate the different economic meanings of employment contracts but have rather been institutionalized as a social category of status in the context of inequality over the past two decades. They are also often matched with other social categories such as gender that have created and reproduced greater labor market inequality. We pay attention to the organizational practice of dominant incumbents who make claims for advantages of return based on their exclusive accessibility to limited organizational resources and explain how that particular practice plays a role to increase relational inequality between those insiders who achieve advantageous returns and outsiders mostly irregular workers who are excluded from those resources because of the social categories that they belong to. In this study, we identify seniority based pay as the key organizational practice that justifies categorical differences within the workplace and examine how that particular practice contributes to organizational level segmentation and income ineqaulity.

  • Recently, Korean society has emphasized the level of digital information usage in each individual's life due to the advent of the intelligent information society and the great digital transformation. The purpose of this study is to examine how the level of digital information usage of people with disabilities affects their satisfaction with life and whether social support moderates the relationship between the level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This study analyzed the data of 2,200 people with disabilities taken from the 2020 Survey on the Digital Divide conducted by the National Information Society Agency. The results of the analysis suggest that people with disabilities have a higher degree of satisfaction when they are employed and have a higher than average monthly income and higher levels of digital information usage and social support. In addition, the results show that social support played a negative moderator role between the level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This shows that life satisfaction can increase when the disabled frequently use digital devices and technologies in their daily lives without relying on social support, and suggested the need for intervention in policies and practice sites.

  • Despite numerous studies, research on ginseng in aspect of an economic and business perspective are insufficient. Recently, research to reveal the economic cause of ginseng products purchase is drawing attention. The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the factors of ginseng products purchase by international consumers from a microeconomic perspective. Using the survey data, we empirically investigate the determinants of ginseng products purchase by international consumers visiting Korea. We use a multinomial logistic model to find the determinants that influence the purchase of ginseng products. This study finds the followings. First, the economic factor is an important determinant of ginseng products purchase. The average daily expenditure has a greater impact on ginseng products purchase than household income does. Even though the average daily expenditure is high, they tend to buy less ginseng products when they prefer other products. Second, demographically, gender and age are also important determinants of ginseng products purchase. It has been found that elderly male consumers are more likely to buy ginseng products. Third, international consumers for leisure purposes have a higher probability of buying ginseng products than tourism consumers for other purposes do. Finally, destination attributes such as security (safety), ease of use of mobile/Internet, and ease of finding directions are also important factors affecting ginseng products purchase. In addition, it is found that the convenience of using the mobile/Internet, the ease of finding directions, and the convenience of shopping increase the probability of buying ginseng products by international consumers. This study is meaningful in that it explored the determinants of ginseng products purchase by analyzing individual consumers' ginseng products choices.

  • This study was estimated the effect of environmental factors and each of them on auction price of Hanwoo calves. The auction prices of Hanwoo calves(19,592head) registered pedigree were sampled in Gyeongsangnam-do from 2014 to 2015. The environmental factors were highly(p<0.01) affect to the auction price of Hanwoo calves. With the analysis of contribute factor used the semi-partial correlation, the value of regression equation(Adj R-Square) was 0.701. The semi-partial correlation values of sex, auction body weight, auction age, auction year, auction season, and auction area were 0.11563, 0.20013, 0.02823, 0.10727, 0.00330 and 0.02963, respectively. And the highest contribution factor was body weight, and then, followed sex, auction year, auction area and auction age. In conclusion, it could be suggested that Hanwoo calf farmer should improve calf body weight to increase auction price by not only breeding, but also optimal management. Additionally, it is expecting in the future that competitiveness and income of farmers will be affected deeply by the holding and producing of predominant genes which is coincidence with breeding principles. However, further study should be conducted for the better understand caused by the limit of previous studies which was estimated the correlations of auction price and each factors.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to estimate the impact of exchange rate and economic business activity on the passengers' demand for international transportation. The demand pattern depends upon the transport vehicles that the global passengers take. The global passengers' demand for transportation is modelled as exchange rate, industrial production and seasonal dummy variables. The seasonality is found in both water and air, but the former is far greater than the latter. All series span the period January 1990 to December 2008. The empirical results of this paper reveal that the income elasticity of sea transport is greater than that of air one, all of which are positive. The study also shows that the exchange rate has an significant impact on the demand for air transport, whereas it is insignificant in water transport. The impulse response function indicates that passengers increase steadily before peaking seven to eight months after the shocks to economic business activity and decline very slowly to its pre-shock level. The air passengers also respond negatively to the shocks in exchange rate and the impacts of exchange rate shock seem to decrease relatively slowly, while the water passengers respond positively after six months. The industrial production shocks remain above equilibrium for more than twenty four months, while the exchange rate shocks remain below equilibrium for more than twenty four months. Boosted by improved economic conditions worldwide, international tourism has recovered faster than expected from the impacts of the global financial crisis and economic recession of late 2008 and 2009. These facts suggest that the demand of global water transport has the high possibility of growing steadily and continuously.

  • This study supplements the limitation as much as possible that existing literatures have, and, on the target of new registered businesses to KOSDAQ, this study presents answers to the worries raised earlier by recovering problems on causal relationship direction between foreigner investment and dividend level and by analyzing them with dividend level as an independent variable. First, with the whole samples used, dividend income rate didn't show significant relationship with foreigners' investments. It is similar to study result of the existing literature. A panel analysis, on the target of sample businesses that paid dividends before foreigners' investments originated, showed that foreigners' investments didn't have a significant effect on dividend rate. It means that foreigner investors don't have an effect on dividend level. But, a panel analysis of samples shows that foreigner investments have a significant thesis relationship with dividend level variable, that is dividend return rate, except the businesses which paid dividend before foreigners' investments originated. It means that in case foreign investors' preference is controlled, in the businesses which pay dividends, foreign investors have a significant effect on dividend level to native KOSDAQ. Especially, this study result is very significant, for it shows that dividend return rate, insignificant in existing studies, was significant when foreigners' preferences to the businesses which pay dividends was controlled. It means that the more foreigners' shares increase, the more relative importance of dividend out of all profits increases, compared with all of the amounts at the time, and that foreign investors stick to short-term profit and induce big dividend.
