The aim of this study was to explore the current status, and public policy issues related to child counselors, with a special focus on training programs and integrating such training into the national qualification system in Korea. The number of children manifesting various social and emotional developmental problems have increased recently. Thus, there is a clear and growing need for suitably qualified specialists to help them and their parents. Child counselors (CCs) are qualified specialists in child counseling and therapy. However, there are no national qualifications or training systems for CCs in Korea. Therefore, in this study, we proposed a Korean national qualification and training system of CCs by comparing the Korean Youth counselor's qualification, training and in-service training system, and with those of both Germany and the USA. In addition, this study suggested the inclusion of a practicum component and a suitable in-service training system for Korean CCs.

The purpose of this study was to analyze changes in perceptions of the categories of environmental education and environmental education professionalism of teachers participating in a in-service teacher training programs for environmental education. For this study, surveys and interviews were conducted before and after participation of 20 elementary and secondary school teachers who had participated in 'in-service teacher training program for professional development in environmental education' in August of 2005. Before participation, most of teachers answered that 'Education for Environment' was essential factor among the categories for environmental education. After participation, 15 teachers retained their perception but 5 teachers had changed to 'Education about Environment' or 'Education for Environment'. Environmental professionalism was conducted in '5 ability categories of environment teachers' of Hungerford et al.(1994). Categories has goal domains such as 'Goal domain I (level of basic)', 'Goal domain II (level of conceptual perceptions)', 'Goal domain III (level of investigating and evaluation)', 'Goal domain IV(level of environmental action skill)', 'Goal domain V(level of educational apply)'. Before participation, teachers had a low level of professionalism in environmental areas, but after participation environmental education professionalism improved significantly into the all 'Goal domains'.

The current knowledge-based society constantly requires teachers to enhance the level of their professional development, which underscores the importance of pre- and in-service teacher training for content do-mains. Most of previous studies designed to investigate the in-service teacher training have been quantitatively conducted with the use of survey analysis and not many efforts have been made to identify any possible weaknesses of teacher training for mathematics education. The present investigation, made to fill the gaps, attempted to describe and interpret teacher training programs for mathematics education using in-depth in-terviews, a form of qualitative research approach. Together with the finding that the degree of classroom teachers' approval for their training was not high for various reasons, the study proposes ways to improve teacher training programs for mathematics education so as to change mathematics classrooms for the better.

This study was intended to verify the impact on the quality of service for employees of youth training facilities. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for improving service quality by analyzing the factors influencing service quality of youth training facility workers. Data were collected from 110 youth training facilities in Busan. The results showed that social support, emotional labor and self-efficacy had a static effect on the quality of service. Based on the results of this study, the following suggestions were made. First, in order to enhance social support, it is necessary to strengthen regular networking with other agency workers, interview with middle managers, and counseling. Second, to raise emotional labor, it is necessary to imprint a sense of mission as a youth leader. Psychological and emotional programs should also be developed and implemented. Third, in order to increase the self-efficacy, it is necessary to strengthen the administrative super vision and strengthen related education such as image making.

Research-based professional development is essential for in-service and pre-service science teachers across the nation. The purpose of this study was to examine in-service science teachers' and pre-service teachers' perception of the training program for professional development using advanced science laboratory equipment and experiments. Science teachers (N= 43) in science high schools and pre-service science teachers (N=189) were selected as research subjects. As a result of this study, in-service teachers and pre-service teachers recognized that they lacked understanding and experience in advanced science laboratory equipment, although they perceived the importance of its use. They wanted to attend training programs during vacation if they would have the opportunity. Both groups felt that they needed to improve their ability to operate the advanced science lab equipment, preferring to practice these instruments in the training programs. In-service teachers preferred the development of teaching and learning programs for use of the advanced science laboratory equipment. However, pre-service teachers preferred using the advanced science laboratory equipment. The study gives implications for teachers' professional development.

The purpose of this study is to identify the present state of training system for mental health professionals. There are some topics which must be improved in the training system, like as reinforcement of qualification of the trainers, introduction of assessment system of the training, and other the quality improvement measures for the training system. Finally, the speciality and capability of mental health professionals will be promoted by supplements of the problematic matters and these efforts will be directly helpful to the people who has mental illnesses.

The aim of this study is providing basic data to design successful in-service training program for teacher librarians by analyzing their preference on subjects of customized intensive programs for indicators of teacher expertise development. According to the survey, teacher librarians seem to regard training subjects such as Reading Education and Information Literacy Instruction related educational information services as core jobs and prefer developing instructional contents and materials. Under the levels of school it seems that teacher librarians in the elementary school are interested in programs for library activation, management of volunteers, analyses of users' needs and curricula, evaluations of user instruction and information literacy instruction. Older teacher librarians favor an understanding of metadata, building and supporting information system and instruction. Therefore, training subjects for teacher librarians should be formed by linking strategies between school library instruction and subject curricula. And in terms of the method of training, case studies and practical training might be better than lectures based on the theory.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of education and training on labor productivity of the leading firms in Busan during the period of 1999~2000. In order to control for firm heterogeneity and the endogeneity problem of education and training, we employed fixed effects model and 2SLS. Our empirical results showed that firms expenditures per capita on education and training were positively correlated with their labor productivity. We also tested whether the effects of education and training on labor productivity vary with firm size or across industries. It is shown that, while firm size makes no statistical differences, the effect of education and training on labor productivity is smaller in service industry than in manufacturing one. From heterogeneous effect of education and training across industries, we could infer that policies to support various education and training programs in service industry are needed to be reinforced to improve the competitiveness of service industry.

The main purpose of this work is to propose programs of calculus for the department of mathematics education of teacher training universities. There is a description of the characteristics, goal and contents of calculus course for pre-service teacher, followed by principles for teaching the subject. We suggest the constituents and something being kept in mind for each part in calculus.

In this study, we developed an efficient in-service teachers training program, which could help the professional development of science gifted teachers. The characteristic feature of this in-service training program was to put great emphasis on interaction between fellow teachers. With this program, teachers could share their experiences and informations about gifted education. The program consisted of 4 interaction modules: 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning', 'the module of interaction in the small group', 'the module of interaction at the plan of application', 'the module of interaction at the practical exercise'. In this study, we analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. We analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. Each teachers got 17.2 correction opinions from peer teachers. They accepted 79.2% opinions among them and refused the other opinions (20.8% opinions). In the analysis of 'program process', the interactions for the improvement about 'the acquirements of knowledge and function' step were 41.9% and the interactions for the improvement about 'plan and exploration' step were 30.5%. In the analysis of 'program domain', the interactions about 'method of teaching and learning' were 41.9%. The interactions about 'program step' were 28.6% and the interactions about 'learning contentsh were 24.8%. With these results, we discussed the features of interaction between science gifted education teachers and proposed the improvement of in-service training program for elementary science gifted teachers.
