  • Organic memory devices were made using the plasma polymerization method. The memory device consisted of ppMMA(plasma polymerization MMA) thin films as the tunneling and insulating layer, and a Au thin film as the memory layer, which was deposited by thermal evaporation. The organic memory operation theory was developed according to the charging and discharging characteristics of floating gate type memory, which would be measured by the hysteresis voltage and memory voltage with the gate voltage values. The I-V characteristics of the fabricated memory device showed a hysteresis voltage of 26 [V] at 60 ~ -60 [V] double sweep measuring conditions. The programming voltage was applied to the gate electrode in accordance with the result of this theory. A programming voltage of 60[V] equated to a memory voltage of 13[V], and 80[V] equated to a memory voltage of 18[V]. The memory voltage of approximately 40 [%]increased with increasing programming voltage. The charge memory layer charging or discharging according to the theory of the memory was verified experimentally.

  • There are two major type of flash memory products, namely, NAND-type and NOR-type flash memory. NOR-type flash memory is generally deployed as ROM BIOS code storage because if offers Byte I/O and fast read operation. However, NOR-type flash memory is more expensive than NAND-type flash memory in terms of the cost per byte ratio, and hence NAND type flash memory is more widely used as large data storage such as embedded Linux file systems. In this paper, we designed an efficient flash memory file system based an Embedded system and presented to make up for reduced to Swapping a weak System Performance to flash file system using NAND-type flash memory, then proposed Swapping algorithm insured to an Execution time. Based on Implementation and simulation studies, Then, We improved performance bases on NAND-type flash memory to the requirement of the embedded system.

  • One of the current goals in memory device developments is to realize a nonvolatile memory, i.e., the stored information maintains even when the power is turned off. The representative candidates for nonvolatile memories are magnetic random access memory (MRAM) and ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM). In order to achieve a high density memory in MRAM device, the external magnetic field should be localized in a tiny cell to control the direction of spontaneous magnetization. (omitted)

  • In this paper, we propose a new nonvolatile unit memory cell and proposal peripheral circuit using the polymer material. Memory that relies on bistable behavior- having tow states associated with different resistances at the same applied voltage - has attracted much interest because of its nonvolatile properties. Such memory may also have other merits, including simplicity of structure and manufacturing, and the small size of memory cells. We have plotted the load line graphs for the use of a polymer memory character, hence we have designed in the band-gap reference shape of a write/erase drive, and then designed in the 2-stage differential amplifier shape of a sense amplifier in the consideration of a low current characteristic of a polymer memory cell. The simulation result shows that is has high gain about 80dB by sensing the very small current.

  • As information technology advances rapidly, various smart devices are becoming an essential element in our lives. Smart devices are providing services to users through applications up on the operating system. Operating systems have a variety of rules, such as scheduling applications and controlling hardwares. Among those rules, it is significant to protect private information in the information-oriented society. Therefore, isolation task, that makes certain memory space separated for each application, should highly be guaranteed. However, modern operating system offers the function to access the memory space from other applications for the sake of debugging. If this ability is misused, private information can be leaked or modified. Even though the access authority to memory is strictly managed, there exist cases found exploited. In this paper, we analyze the problems of the function provided in the Android environment that is the most popular and opened operating system. Also, we discuss how to avoid such kind of problems and verify with experiments.

  • Many algorithms have been introduced to improve performance by using massively parallel systems, which consist of several hundreds of processors. A typical example is a GPU system of many processors which uses shared memory. In the case of image filtering algorithms, which make references to neighboring points, the shared memory helps improve performance by frequently accessing adjacent pixels. However, using shared memory requires rewriting the existing codes and consequently results in complexity of the codes. Recent GPU systems support both L1 and L2 cache along with shared memory. Since the L1 cache memory is located in the same area as the shared memory, the improvement of performance is predictable by using the cache memory. In this paper, the performance of cache and shared memory were compared. In conclusion, the performance of cache-based algorithm is very similar to the one of shared memory. The complexity of the code appearing in a shared memory system, however, is resolved with the cache-based algorithm.

  • The present study was undertaken to explore the potential of erythropoietin in memory deficits of mice. Memory impairment was produced by scopolamine (0.5 mg/kg, $i.p.$) and intracerebroventricular streptozotocin (i.c.v STZ, 3 mg/kg, $10{\mu}l$, $1^{st}$ and $3^{rd}$ day) in separate groups of animals. Morris water-maze test was employed to assess learning and memory. The levels of brain thio-barbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) and reduced glutathione (GSH) were estimated to assess degree of oxidative stress. Brain acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) activity was also measured. Scopolamine/streptozotocin administration induced significant impairment of learning and memory in mice as indicated by marked decrease in Morris water-maze performance. Scopolamine/streptozotocin administration also produced a significant enhancement of brain AChE activity and brain oxidative stress (an increase in TBARS and a decrease in GSH) levels. Treatment of erythropoietin (500 and 1,000 IU/Kg i.p.) significantly reversed scopolamine- as well as streptozotocin-induced learning and memory deficits along with attenuation of those-induced rise in brain AChE activity and brain oxidative stress levels. It may be concluded that erythropoietin exerts a beneficial effect in memory deficits of mice possibly through its multiple actions including potential anti-oxidative effect.

  • Dynamic memory allocators for real-time embedded systems need to fulfill three fundamental requirements: bounded worst-case execution time, fast average execution time, and minimal fragmentation. Since embedded systems generally run continuously during their whole lifetime, fragmentation is one of the most important factors in designing the memory allocator. This paper focuses on minimizing fragmentation while other requirements are still satisfied. To minimize fragmentation, a part of a memory region is segregated by the proposed budgeting method that exploits the memory profile of the given application. The budgeting method can be applied for any existing memory allocators. Experimental results show that the memory efficiency of allocators can be improved by up to 18.85% by using the budgeting method. Its worst-case execution time is analyzed to be bounded.

  • In order to maintain numerous server systems used in enterprise and data center environments, the most important thing is to prevent the occurrence of UE (Uncorrectable Error) of each server system. With the recent development of cloud services, more memory modules are being used than ever before, while the operating frequency of server systems has increased and the process of developing memory has continued to shrink, making it more likely to fail. In these environments, there is a way to repair memory defects directly in the server system, but there is no currently available guideline to use it effectively. In this paper, we propose a method to effectively prevent memory failure in a server system based on the observation and analysis of memory failure phenomenon in existing system.

  • The effects of the oriental herbal medicine Saenghyetang(SHT, 生慧湯), which consists of Rehmanniae Radix (熟地黃 九蒸: was made by 9th steam) 40g, Corni Fructus(山茱黃) 16g, Polygalae Radix(遠志) 8g, Zizyphi Spinosae Semen(酸棗仁) 2g, Biotae Semen(柏子仁 去油: oil ingredient was removed) 20g, Poria Cocos(茯笭) 12g, Ginseng Radix(人蔘) 12g, Acori Graminei Rhizoma(石菖蒲) 2g, Sinapis Semen(白芥子) 8g, on learning ability and memory were investigated. Hot water extract(HWE) and ethanol extract(EE) from SHT were used for the studies. Learning ability and memory are related to modifications of synaptic strength among neurons that interactive. Enhanced synaptic coincidence detection leads to improved learning ability and memory. If the NMDA receptor, a synaptic coincidence detector, acts as a graded switch for memory formations, enhanced signal detection by NMDA receptors should enhance learning ability and memory. It was shown that NR2B was increased in the forebrains of oriental medicine-administrated mice, leading to enhanced activation of NMDA receptors and facilitating synaptic potentiation in response to stimulation at 10-100 Hz. These HWE-SHT treated mice exhibited that superior ability in learning and memory when performing various behavioral tasks, showing that NR2B is enhanced by HWE-SHT treatment and also is critical in gating the age-dependent threshold for plasticity and memory formation. NMDA receptor-dependent modifications, which were mediated in part by HWE administration, of synaptic efficacy, therefore, represent a mechanism for associative learning ability and memory. Results suggest that oriental medical enhancement of NR2B contributes to increase intelligence and memory in mammals On the other hand, to examine the effects of EE-SHT on the learning ability and memory in experimental mice, EE-SHT was tested on passive and active avoidance responses. The EE-SHT ameliorated the memory retrieval deficit induced by ethanol in mice, but not other memory impairments. EE-SHT(10, 20mg/100 g, p.o.) did not affect the passive avoidance responses of normal mice in the step through and step down tests, the conditioned and unconditioned avoidance responses of normal mice in the shuttle box, lever press performance tests and the ambulatory activity of normal mice in a normal condition. However, EE-SHT at 20 mg/kg significantly decrease the spontaneous motor activity during the shuttle box test, and also to extend the sleeping time induced by pentobarbital in mice. These results suggest that SHT has an ameliorating effect on memory retrieval impairments and a weak tranquilizing action.
