  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive multiview video coding scheme based on spatiotemporal correlation analyses using hierarchical B picture (AMVC-HBP) for the integrative encoding performances, including high compression efficiency, low complexity, fast random access, and view scalability, by integrating multiple prediction structures. We also propose an in-coding mode-switching algorithm that enables AMVC-HBP to adaptively select a better prediction structure in the encoding process without any additional complexity. Experimental results show that AMVC-HBP outperforms the previous multiview video coding scheme based on H.264/MPEG-4 AVC using the hierarchical B picture (MVC-HBP) on low complexity for 21.5%, on fast random access for about 20%, and on view scalability for 11% to 15% on average. In addition, distinct coding gain can be achieved by AMVC-HBP for dense and fast-moving sequences compared with MVC-HBP.

  • Unified speech and audio coding (USAC) is one of the latest coding technologies. It is based on a switchable coding structure, and has demonstrated the highest levels of performance for both speech and music contents. In this paper, we propose an extended version of USAC with a single-mode of operation-which does not require a switching system-by extending the linear prediction-coding mode. The main concept of this extension is the adoption of the advantages of frequency-domain coding schemes, such as windowing and transition control. Subjective test results indicate that the proposed scheme covers speech, music, and mixed streams with adequate levels of performance. The obtained quality levels are comparable with those of USAC.

  • We propose an efficient block least-mean-square (BLMS) adaptive algorithm, in conjunction with error control coding, for direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. The proposed adaptive receiver incorporates decision feedback detection and channel encoding in order to improve the performance of the standard LMS algorithm in convolutionally coded systems. The BLMS algorithm involves two modes of operation: (i) The training mode where an uncoded training sequence is used for initial filter tap-weights adaptation, and (ii) the decision-directed where the filter weights are adapted, using the BLMS algorithm, after decoding/encoding operation. It is shown that the proposed adaptive receiver structure is able to compensate for the signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) loss incurred due to the switching from uncoded training mode to coded decision-directed mode. Our results show that by using the proposed adaptive receiver (with decision feedback block adaptation) one can achieve a much better performance than both the coded LMS with no decision feedback employed. The convergence behavior of the proposed BLMS receiver is simulated and compared to the standard LMS with and without channel coding. We also examine the steady-state bit-error rate (BER) performance of the proposed adaptive BLMS and standard LMS, both with convolutional coding, where we show that the former is more superior than the latter especially at large SNRs ($SNR\;\geq\;9\;dB$).

  • In this paper, we propose a RZ/HRZ mixture data transmission method for the asynchronous circuit design to reduce Power consumption. The dual-rail data with Rf decoding scheme is used to design asynchronous circuit, and it is easy to get a completion signal of the data validity from the native data as contrasted with sin91e-rail. However, the dual-rail scheme suffers from large chip area and increasing of Power consumption from all signals by the switching of the return-to-zero. We need to diminish number of circuit switching. The proposed RZ/HRZ data transmission reduces a switching activity to about 50% and it shows 23% lower power consumption than the conventional dual-rail coding with RZ's.

  • This research studied future directions of Internet technology toward supporting group decision making. From the previous research, this study classified requirements of group decision support systems into three categories which are information transfer, information provision, and communication control. For each of the category, this study analyzed the limits of current Internet functions. Next, this research discussed technological solutions, for each of the OSI 7 layers, toward supporting group decision making. Additional functions in Internet which are required for group supporting are tracing communications, application dependent coding, selection of communication modes, and security handling. For high speed data communication in Internet, this research discussed the potential of cell-switching technology for the lower level link in Internet. The conclusions of this research can be used for designing future group decision support systems and development of Internet.

  • Recently, the LED(Light Emitting Diode) replacing incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent light has great attentions as a most promising candidate for the next generation lighting source due to its environment-friendly characteristics, long life and excellent efficiency. Moreover, since it is a semiconductor device which can convert the electric energy to visible light at a very high speed, it can also used as a communication device. Therefore, the VLC(Visible Light Communication) using the LED can perform the near field communication and lighting function at the same time without additional expenses. However, since the switching device of the conventional LED driver for VLC is operated in the linear region, there exist several drawbacks such as a poor power conversion efficiency and serious heat generation. On the other hand, since the proposed driver is operated in the on/off switching region, it features a higher efficiency and more improved heat generation. To verify the validity of the proposed LED driver, experimental results from a prototype of 20W rated LED driver applied to 3MHz bps broadcasting audio system are given.

  • This is the third part of the four-part paper describing the development of a packet-switched computer communication network named the KORNET. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of the X.25 protocol connecting packet mode data terminal equipments(PDTE's) with data circuit terminating equipments(DCE's). In the KORNET, the X.25 protocol has been implemented on the line processing module-A(LPMA) of the network node processor(NNP). In the implementation of X.25, we have divided the software module according to the service function, and have determined the the rules that interact between the modules. Each layer protocol has been developed using the technique of the finite state machine. Before the actual coding of softwares, we hafve used formal software development tools based on the specification and description language (SDL) and program design languate (PDL) recommended by the CCITT. In addition, for the efficient operation of the X.25 protocol system we have analyzed the system performance and the service scheduling method of each module. The results will also be given.
