In this paper, a new method that monitors the quantity of particles using ion-counter in vacuum environment is introduced. In-situ particle monitoring (ISPM) system is composed by Gerdien type ion-counter (house-made), DC power supply and electrometer. The ion-counter applied by positive voltage detects only positive charged particles. Therefore the particles to be detected should be in known charge state for further data analysis. ion-counter is installed at the exhaust line of process equipment where the pressure loss is structurally low. ISPM system performance has been verified with SMPS (Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer) system. The correlation coefficient is above 0.98 at the particle size range of $20{\sim}300nm$ in diameter with identified charge distribution under $0.1{\sim}10.0$ Torr.
A preparative method of Me2SCuX (X = Cl, Br) via one-pot reaction was developed from common chemicals such as benzyl halide, DMSO, and Cu(0). In the reaction mixture small molecules such as methyl halide and dimethyl sulfide etc. were efficiently generated in situ, resulting in the formation of Me2SCuX. Oxidation of Cu(0) in reacting with both benzyl halide (starting material) and methyl halide (in situ generated product) to Cu(I) followed by complexing with dimethyl sulfide (in situ generated product) could explain the formation of Me2SCuX. In particular we found out that heterogeneous reaction of Me2SCuX and arenediazonium tetrafluoroborate in acetonitrile was so effective to afford corresponding bromoaromatics under mild conditions.

Recently various molecular diagnostic techniques have been used to identify rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), a causative agent responsible for acute hepatitis and disseminated intravascular coagulation in rabbit. But they were hard to perform and time consuming. To detect RHDV in a rapid and easy way, we developed biotinylated oligonucleotide probe within ORF 1 region encoding the polyprotein of RHDV in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues from various tissues of 20 rabbits naturally infected with RHDV, Our in situ hybridization (ISH) was quickly carried out within two hours by MicroProbe capillary action system. The ISH produced a positive reaction in liver, kidney and lung. In conclusion, ISH with a biotintlated oligonucleotide probe provided a useful diagnostic method for detecting RHDV.
To investigate the effect of ursolic acid on the expression of oncogenes in tumor cells of mice, sarcoma 180 ascites tumor cells were implanted into the left groin of ICR mice and the tumor bearing mice were treated with ursolic acid. The expression of oncogenes were measured by in situ hybridization method. Ursolic acid significantly reduced the expression of oncogenes in the tumor cells. Therefore, it can be said that the prestated anticarcinogenic effect of ursolic acid could be partly ascribed to the mechanism included in the oncogene´s transcription level.

In this study, the fabrication and the characteristic analyses of OLED using in-situ passivation are investigated. OLEDs represent a disadvantage in decreasing its life due to the degradation caused by the penetration of moisture and oxygen. After the fabrication of OLED, an in-situ passivation method for inorganic thin films is developed. A process that uses PECVD method which can apply a vapor deposition process at room temperature is also developed. Changes in the degradation and electric characteristics of OLEDs are also analyzed by applying $SiO_2$ and SiNx thin films to OLED as a passivation layer. By applying the fabricated thin film to OLEDs as a passivation layer, the moisture penetration in a single layer film is ensured below $1{\times}10^{-2}\;g/m^2.day$. This leads to the improvement of such degradation characteristics in the application of multilayer films.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the methodology of our investigation of the dynamics of protein degradation and the total in situ protealytic activity in meso/eutrophic, eutrophic, and hypereutrophic freshwater environments. Analysis of the kinetics and rates of enzymatic release of amino acids in water samples preserved with sodium azide allows determination of the concentrations of labile proteins $(C_{LAB})$, and their half-life time $(T_{1/2})$. Moreover, it gives more realistic information on resultant activity in situ $(V_{T1/2})$ of ecto- and extracellular proteases that are responsible for the biological degradation of these compounds. Although the results provided by the proposed method are general y well correlated with those obtained by classical procedures, they better characterize the dynamics of protein degradation processes, especially in eutrophic or hypereutrophic lakes. In these environments, processes of protein decomposition occur mainly on the particles and depend primarily on a metabolic activity of seston-attached bacteria. The method was tested in three lakes. The different degree of eutrophication of these lakes was clearly demonstrated by the measured real proteolytic pattern and confirmed by conventional trophic state determinants.
The in-situ scanning electron microscopy observation of real-time hillock evolution in pure hi thin films on glass substrate during Isothermal annealing was analyzed quantitatively to understand the compressive stress relaxation mechanism by focusing on the effect of Mo interlayer between Al film and glass substrate. There is a good correlation between the hillock-induced stress relaxation by in-situ scanning electron microscopy observation ana the measured stress relaxation by wafer curvature method. It is also clearly shown that the existence of Mo interlayer plays an important role in hillock formation probably due to the large difference in interfacial diffusivity of Al films.
In the assessment of existing RC buildings, the reliable appraisal of the compressive strength of in-situ concrete is a fundamental step. Unfortunately, the data that can be obtained by the available testing methods are typically affected by a high level of uncertainty. Moreover, in order to derive indications about the degradation and ageing of the materials by on site tests, it is necessary to have the proper terms of comparison, that is to say, to know the reference data measured during the construction phases, that are often unavailable when the building is old. In the cases when such a comparison can be done, the in situ strength values typically turn out to be lower than the reference strength values (tests performed on taken samples during the construction). At this point, it is crucial to discern and quantify the specific effect induced by different factors: ageing of the materials; poor quality of the placement, consolidation or cure of the concrete during the construction phases; damage due to drilling. This paper presents a procedure for correlating the destructive compressive tests and non-destructive tests (ultrasonic pulse velocity tests) with the data documenting the compressive strength tested during the construction phases. The research work is aimed at identifying the factors that induce the difference between the in-situ strength and cubes taken from the concrete casting, and providing, so, useful information for the assessment procedure of the building.
In situ recovery of recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (hGM-CSF) was performed in transgenic Nicotiana tabacum cell suspension cultures. Aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) were used to utilize its biocompatibility. Transgenic plant cells could be grown up to 15.7 g/L in normal medium and 18.6 g/L in ATPS composed of 6% (w/w) polyethylene glycol (PEG) 20,000 and 10% (w/w) dextran 2,000,000. It was proved that the A TPS was not harmful to cell growth. In addition, It is expected to recover hGM-CSF simultaneously with cell growth. Using this method, maximum hGM-CSF concentration at 1.64 ng/mL was obtained on day 3.
We observed the in-situ stress behavior of Cu and Ag thin films during deposition using a thermal evaporation method. Multi-beam curvature measurement system was used to monitor the evolution of in-situ stress in Cu and Ag thin films on 100 Si(100) substrates. The measured curvature was converted to film stress using Stoney formula. To investigate the effects of the deposition rates on the stress evolution in Cu and Ag thin films, Cu and Ag films were deposited at rates ranging from 0.1 to $3.0{\AA}/s$ for Cu and from 0.5 to $4.0{\AA}/s$ for Ag. Both Cu and Ag films showed a unique three stress stages, such as 'initial compressive', 'a tensile maximum' and followed by 'incremental compressive' stress. For both Cu and Ag films, there is no remarkable effect of deposition rate on the thickness and average stress at the tensile maximum. There is, however, a definite decrease in the incremental compressive stress with increasing deposition rate.
