  • Implicit Integration has become a standard approach to efficient cloth animation, and it guarantees the stability of the system so that large steps can be used. Therefore, it is regarded as the best method for the real-time or interactive animation of cloth. Since the implicit method was introduced for stable cloth animation, various cloth animation techniques based on the method have been proposed. It is now possible to generate the real-time animation of cloth model with thousands of mass-point in general PC environments. Although the implicit method guarantees the stability, the implementation of the implicit method is generally more difficult than that of the explicit method. Even worse, it is very difficult to parallelize the computation process of the implicit method. The cloth animation with implicit method can be formalized as a linear system solving. In this paper we propose an stable and efficient cloth animation techniques based on the implicit method. The proposed method can be easily parallelized. Self-collision is another important issue in cloth animation, we also propose an efficient self-collision avoidance techniques.

  • Four experiments were conducted to examine whether maintaining the same conceptual context across study and test would affect performance on a perceptual implicit memory task. The sense-specific theory of priming (Lewandowsky et al., 1989) predicts greater priming from a match in conceptual context across study and test compared with a condition in which the conceptual context is mismatched, whereas the transfer-appropriate-processing view (e.g., Blaxton, 1989) predicts no difference. In experiment 1 and 2, little or no effect of varying context was observed on a implicit task. In experiment 3 and 4, a process-dissociation procedure (proposed by Jacoby, 1991) was used to separate automatic influences from consciously controlled influence in implicit memory, which was measured by Korean word completion task. The results showed that conceptual context effect was observed in consciously controlled parts of implicit memory. These results suggest that only consciously controlled processing parts of implicit memory is sensitive to conceptual context.

  • The purpose of this study is to discuss the implicit meaning of advertising content with highly persuasive language formats from a communication perspective and its interpretation process in relation to communication education, while simultaneously developing interpretative codes for media literacy education in modern society. For a successful discussion, I assumed the narrative content of advertising content that implements a special purpose as a general conversational act, and raised the issue anew that regularity exists for implicit semantic expressions. It also said that in order for media literacy education in the present society to proceed correctly, linguistic interpretations of implicit meaning cannot be guided as a principle of communication in prior research. As a solution, we confirm that socio-cultural sharing knowledge and recognition are essential interpretation codes. For further discussion, the analysis of advertising media languages with special purposes in terms of language usage was conducted to verify the process of interpreting the implicit meaning shown in them. After analyzing the implicit advertising language that I arbitrarily typified, I found that the linguistic meaning implicit with the intention of persuading the speaker can be provided mostly as media literacy education as a framework for analysis by various information and cognitive effects. In other words, acceptors should not perform only literal interpretations in the process of interpreting the implicit meaning inherent in the media language. If guided by including native language materials and background knowledge, socio-cultural customs, and general common knowledge, efficient media literacy education can be expected.

  • This study examined how the explicit and implicit race attitudes differ according to age and gender from the developmental perspective in Korean elementary students. The study also investigated the efficacy of a multi-cultural education program on explicit and implicit attitude change in elementary school students. This thesis consists of two parts. In Study 1, elementary school students(first grade:117, fourth grade:117) completed Explicit Attitudes Rating Scales, Explicit Preference Test, and Child Implicit Association Tests (Korean-White/Korean-Black/ Korean-Southeast Asian IATs). The effects of age and gender on explicit and implicit attitudes toward Korean/White/Black/Southeast Asian were examined with two-way MANOVA. The results demonstrated that as age increases, in-group preference/out-group bias decrease on the explicit level. In contrast, on the implicit level, as age increases, in-group preference/out-group bias do not decrease. Rather, prejudiced attitudes toward blacks increase. Study 2 was performed to investigate the effect of a multi-cultural education program on explicit and implicit attitude change toward races in elementary school students. The program conveying an anti-bias message consists of three sessions, and the procedures are as follows; watching video clips, confirming contents and short discussion. Two classes in the program and two classes in comparative groups on the first and fourth grade of elementary school were assessed. The results showed that black preference significantly increased both in the first and the fourth grade elementary students on the explicit attitude level, but not on the implicit level. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings were discussed.

  • In this paper, we perform a comparison study of explicit and implicit numerical methods for the equity-linked securities (ELS). The option prices of the two-asset ELS are typically computed using an implicit finite diffrence method because an explicit finite diffrence scheme has a restriction for time steps. Nowadays, the three-asset ELS is getting popularity in the real world financial market. In practical applications of the finite diffrence methods in computational finance, we typically use relatively large space steps and small time steps. Therefore, we can use an accurate and effient explicit finite diffrence method because the implementation is simple and the computation is fast. The computational results demonstrate that if we use a large space step, then the explicit scheme is better than the implicit one. On the other hand, if the space step size is small, then the implicit scheme is more effient than the explicit one.

  • Kinect sensor has two output data which are produced from red green blue (RGB) sensor and depth sensor, it is called color image and depth map, respectively. Although this device's prices are cheapest than the other devices for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction, we need extra work for reconstruct a smooth 3D data and also have semantic meaning. It happened because the depth map, which has been produced from depth sensor usually have a coarse and empty value. Consequently, it can be make artifact and holes on the surface, when we reconstruct it to 3D directly. In this paper, we present a method for solving this problem by using implicit surface representation. The key idea for represent implicit surface is by using radial basis function (RBF) and to avoid the trivial solution that the implicit function is zero everywhere, we need to defined on-surface point and off-surface point. Based on our simulation results using captured face as an input, we can produce smooth 3D face and fill the holes on the 3D face surface, since RBF is good for interpolation and holes filling. Modified anisotropic diffusion is used to produced smoothed surface.

  • In order to fill the holes with complex shapes in the large polygon model, a new approach which is based on the implicit surface interpolation method combined with domain decomposition method is presented. In the present study, a surface is constructed by creating smooth implicit surface from the incomplete polygon model through which the surface should pass. In the method an implicit surface is defined by a radial basis function, a continuous scalar-valued function over the domain $R^3$ The generated surface is the set of all points at which this scalar function takes on the value zero and is created by placing zero-valued constraints at the vertices of the polygon model. In this paper the well-known domain decomposition method is used in order to treat the large polygon model. The global domain of interest is divided into smaller domains where the problem can be solved locally. LU decomposition method is used to solve a set of small local problems and their local solutions are combined together using the weighting coefficients to obtain a global solution. In order to show the validity of the present study, various hole fillings are carried out fur the large and complex polygon model of arbitrary topology.

  • Proirity queues(PQ) can be used in applications such as scheduling or sorting. The data structures for PQ can be constructed with or without pointers. The implicit representation without pointers uses less memory space than pointer-based representation. It if shown that a 2-heap, a traditional Implicit PQ based on a binary tree, is slower than an f-heap based on a 8-ary tree. This is because 8-heap utilizes cache memory more efficiently This paper presents a novel fast implicit heap called 8-heap* which is easier to implement. Experimental results show that the 8-heap* is faster than 8-heap as well as 2-heap.

  • Management of human knowledge is an interesting concept that has attracted the attention of philosophers for thousands of years. Artificial intelligence and knowledge engineering has provided some degree of rigor to the study of knowledge systems and expert systems(ES) re able to use knowledge to solve the problems and answer questions. Therefore, the process of conceptualization and inference of knowledge are fundamental problem solving activities and hence, are essential activities for solving the problem of software ES construction Especially, the access to relevant, up-to-date and reliable knowledge is very important task in the daily work of physicians and nurses. In this study, we propose the conceptualization and inference mechanism for implicit knowledge management in medical diagnosis area. To this purpose, we combined the dynamic knowledge map(KM) and relational database(RDB) into a dynamic knowledge map(DKM). A graphical user-interface of DKM allows the conceptualization of the implicit knowledge of medical experts. After the conceptualization of implicit knowledge, we developed an RDB-based inference mechanism and prototype software ES to access and retrieve the implicit knowledge stored in RDB. Our proposed system allows the fast comfortable access to relevant knowledge fitting to the demands of the current task.

  • A modification of the approximate-factorization method is made to accelerate the convergency rate and to take sufficiently large Courant number without loss of accuracy. And a stable implicit finite-difference scheme for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations employed above modified method is developed. In the present implicit scheme, the volume fluxes with contravariant velocity components and the pressure formulation in curvilinear coordinates is adopted. In order to satisfy the continuity condition completely and to remove spurious errors for the pressure, the Navier-Stokes equations are solved by a modified SMAC scheme using a staggered gird. The upstream-difference scheme such as the QUICK scheme is also employed to the right hand side. The implicit scheme is unconditionally stable and satisfies a diagonally dominant condition for scalar diagonal linear systems of implicit operator on the left hand side. Numerical results for some test calculations of the two-dimensional flow in a square cavity and over a backward-facing step are obtained using both usual approximate-factorization method and the modified one, and compared with each other. It is shown that the present scheme allows a sufficiently large Courant number of O(10$^{2}$) and reduces the computing time.
